So, at age 15 you are too young to drive, too young to smoke, too young to vote, too young to drink, too young to rent a car, too young to get a tattoo, too young to join the military but old enough to get a sex change operation???

This would be my argument. If you are going to be considered old enough to put tax payers on the hook for an irreversible, life altering decision, then you should be made to sign a waver to be tried as an adult should you ever commit a crime, be eligible for the draft should it ever be reinstated, be held responsible, as opposed to your parents, for any debts you incur... Then we'll see what kind of a response you get.

Of course, in reality, this is just setting the stage for the state to be sued by those who later regret the decision, and argue that they were too young to have been able to reasonably give consent.

Sounds like Oregon to me.

"Hi. We're from the government. We 're going to fix your children. No, you don't need to know about it. You don't even get a say. Like we said before, we're from the government."

WTF, Oregon???

If the parents are supportive of their child they would approve of the surgery anyway. If they aren't supportive they are ignorant and prejudiced so the child needs to be sheltered from that hostile, toxic environment. Either way, we don't need parental approval.

/sarcasm

That's really their reasoning and justification.. It's just that it's appalling to the rest of civilization

Well you ain't seen nothing yet in all likelihood, as the saying goes. Lunacy like this just five or six years ago would have seemed unthinkable, but now the left is pulling out all the stops and as far as they're concerned it's clear sailing baby! And who could really blame them? Just what opposition has there been to virtually anything they've pushed for over these last six and a half years?

When does this burn out? This lunacy or depravity?

I find myself conflicted. Every second we tolerate more kids become normalized to it. I overheard a group of 10-12 year olds talking about gay and trans shit totally normally. It was a little disturbing.

It doesn't burn out unfortunately, at least not in my lifetime. Things will have to get much, much worse before the masses are forced to confront the bankruptcy of the ideology, socially as well as economically, that they have embraced, and even when that moment finally arrives, many of the fools that have been steeped into believing and accepting all that claptrap will still refuse to believe that it was their belief system that has wrought all the damage they will be witnessing by then. It will be up to a later generation of younger people who will have grown up disillusioned and have grown utterly disgusted by what they see to bring about change. These millenials have a lot to do with gay marriage having swept across the entire country to become a reality, and that generation is lost for good. Even when they reach their 50s and 60s they will refuse to believe that their views will have had anything to do with the depravity that will be all around them by then, which is why I say that if a change does come about to begin turning things around it won't be in my lifetime, because it's already too late. But I believe it goes even deeper than that because the influx of illegal immigrants that are being encouraged to come here and take jobs away from native born Americans, and drive wages down further and further in the process, will have permanently changed the culture to such an extent that what we have traditionally known to be America will have been irrevocably lost forever, and that sadly, is this nation's future IMO.

We live in a country where it is now more socially acceptable to undergo a government funded operation to cut your dick off than be a practicing devout Christian.

What. The. Fuck.

I don't know where you live, but that's really not the case I assure you, at least not where I'm from

I live in Minnesota (US). The people here (especially near Minneapolis) are EXTREMELY liberal.

From near Chicago, definitely still more accepted here to be Christian than transgender.

Oregon: where physician assisted suicide is legal and encouraged, yet circumcision is taboo, in part because doctors swear to "do no harm." I guess killing people isn't doing harm.

Don't forget, you can't pump your own gas there either. You know, to protect their citizens from the noxious gasoline fumes that 48 other states don't have a problem with. I've only lived here for almost a year, and Oregonians are the most pretentious people I've met. They're all for civil liberties, so long as it is anti-conservative. If conservatives suddenly became pro gun-control, Oregonians would protect the second amendment with their lives. The state tries to be progressive for the sake of being progressive.

Circumcision isn't taboo. Liberals just really, really love shmegma.

And of course, this means tax payers are completely on the hook for paying for it.

I wonder if Oregon will do the same thing for a regular surgery?

"Hi I'm a 15 year old and broke my arm. I don't want to tell my parents so can you give me surgery for free?"

I wonder if Oregon will do the same thing for a regular surgery?

If it's covered under Oregon's Medicaid program, then yes. Basically what happened is they expanded the program to include the condition of "gender dysphoria." Whether or not you believe in certain types of psychological conditions or not is a toss-up. Some people believe conditions like this are a perversion or choice, others believe some people are born that way. Psychology and our understanding of the brain is still very young and limited relative to other sciences, so it is understandable that there is a division.

Anyway, it also happens that Oregon's medical age of consent is 15. So this means that whatever the surgery is, you have to be 15 to consent. FYI, here are the other requirements for undergoing surgery to treat "gender dysphoria" (source):

To qualify for surgery, the patient must:

1) have persistent, well documented gender dysphoria

2) have completed twelve months of continuous hormone therapy as appropriate to the member’s gender goals unless hormones are not clinically indicated for the individual

3) have completed twelve months of living in a gender role that is congruent with their gender identity unless a medical and a mental health professional both determine that this requirement is not safe for the patient

4) have the capacity to make a fully informed decision and to give consent for treatment

5) have any significant medical or mental health concerns reasonably well controlled

6) have two referrals from qualified mental health professionals with experience in working with patients with gender dysphoria who have independently assessed the patient. Such an assessment should include the clinical rationale supporting the patient’s request for surgery, as well as the rationale of the procedure(s)

So it's hardly like just walking in and getting your gender changed as people are making it seem. Also, if a parent doesn't at least notice their boy behaving like a girl for a year, then I would have to say that is a pretty shitty parent.

And whether or not this should be covered using tax money is definitely not a topic I care to get into. It would also be quite pointless in this sub I think, as I am about 99% sure that the prevailing opinion here is "NO." I just thought this was a really "out there" move for Oregon, and since I took the time to look into it, I thought I'd provide more detail.

So? Whats the problem?
