The amount of people here who hate the poor is astounding.

Yeah... what the fuck is wrong with these people.

It's not like he is wrong

He is, though.

I don't agree with burning the flag. Obviously that's a shitty thing to do. But assuming all of those people are on welfare, and even if they were, burning the checks would do more harm then good.

Lots of people abuse welfare system by getting shitloads of kids

Would you rather there be no welfare system and people who actually need it go hungry?

No, but make the regulation stricter, harder to abuse. If you have a kid and are on welfare, you get free abortion if you happen to get pregnant again.

It's already pretty strict though. IIRC only about 1-2% of people abuse it.

As someone who's parents are already on welfare I can tell you It took about 11 months for benefits to start, in which we were homeless for a lot of that time.

If you don't know what your talking about, shut the fuck up for real

It's incredible, people don't even bother to look up the statistics and instead just listen to what their favorite television program says. I mean in five minutes of research I've been able to come across various different sites showing that the belief that welfare is for lazy people who want to live off of others.

http://www.statisticbrain.com/welfare-statistics/

In the above link you get a lot of information on welfare statistics, the main reason I linked it is it shows a very interesting statistic - only 19.6% of people on welfare stay on it for longer than five years. Feel free to look around at the other statistics as well, it's a great website.

http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ofa/resource/character/fy2010/fy2010-chap10-ys-final

As for /u/Prodapholifus ' comment on people having multiple system to abuse the system, we can easily show that to be false. "The average number of persons in TANF families was 2.4, including an average of 1.8 recipient children. One in two recipient families had only one child. Less than eight percent of families had more than three children. The average number of children in closed-case families was 1.8. Nearly one in two closed-case families had one child, and only seven percent had more than three children." Did you catch that? One in two families receiving welfare with a child only have one of them. I would go on but I feel I've typed enough, haha. If you have any other concerns feel free to ask.

Tbf I'm not even american or know shit about stuff there, but it still is a huge flaw if people choose welfare over working.

If you don't "know shit about stuff there" then why are you making claims like you do? How is that helpful for anyone?

I know people that abuse it. Selling 200 dollars worth of food stamps for 100 dollars cash. They're fucking scum.

Then they would just deny the abortion.

Why am I being downvoted? I'm not wrong.

You're not wrong, but you are on r/teenagers.

My family survived on welfare checks because my dad (our only source of income) passed away, and my mother has a disability. Without those welfare checks, we wouldn't have had food on the table every month.

These people don't realize that you can't just force someone to get an abortion. They don't realize that if there was a way to regulate who is abusing government help (legally), then the government would have done it by now.

I think the issue isn't with people who truly have a reason to be on welfare, it's with the people who don't want to get a job because they are too lazy. You can make up to $1000 a month in some states and still live off welfare. That's 4 hours a day making minimum wage. It's dishonest and it costs me as a taxpayer money! If you have a real, job-inhibiting disability, physical or mental, that is the only way I'd support welfare.

You are literally saying what everyone else is saying... You should have welfare if you need it.

[–]neil_newton_nye15 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Please refer to my comment further up in this thread. The majority of people on welfare aren't abusing the system. Also, if you work regular times on minimum wage it isn't even considered a living wage, so how is someone supposed to live off that? Not to mention that minimum wage is $7.25, and in a year the average minimum wage worker will make $15,080. That's unacceptable, I would really like to see your side though as I could be overlooking something. But so far, I haven't come across any statistics to change my view, only the occasional anecdote. :)

Oh yeah that'll go over well with the republicans. They'll approve that in a heartbeat.

Lots of people rely on welfare checks because this system is flawed and can never get ahead in life. Fuck outta here with your "If you die poor it's your fault" I'm fucking pissed at people that think like this. Honestly, if everyone that hates "welfare kings/queens" were around these people and their communities for a weekend, just a weekend, with an open mind, they'd change their minds. It's easy to dehumanize a population that has already been dehumanized by generations and generations

Worth having a tiny minority of abusers for the amount of people it actually helps. If it weren't for welfare my mum would have struggled enormously to raise me and I'm very thankful my country provides it.

Wow, fuck this kid

As an expert in memes, this is rather dank.

I will never understand our obsession with the flag here in America. Yes, it's symbolic, but it's just a piece of cloth, and there's like hundreds of thousands of them. Most of them were probably made in China anyway, so why do we treat them like holy relics?
