I down voted it because it was dumb. It was honestly just a dumb thing to say. It showed no real deep thought, and I felt dumber having read it. I'm not saying the guy who wrote it was dumb. Not at all! Maybe he wrote it because he was just too lazy to think critically. It was so dumb that it didn't even contribute to the conversation, just sat there idly, being smug and dumb.

A plumber not carrying metric tools is inexcusable. Even if he needs a specialized tool for a weird plumbing job, he really ought to go out and get it because he's a professional and that's what professionals do. It's more like hiring a plumber and the plumber saying "I refuse to do metric so if it's metric, you'll have to find your own tools for me to use."

As unbearable as SRD is sometimes, the anti-SRD circlejerk is 100% worse.

Or we could say that metric tools cost $50 and the plumber will make $20,000,000, since we're pulling numbers out of our ass. And you have to think about all the profits lost because someone wrote "the plumber refused to do work because my pipes are metric" on Yelp. And you have to think he can rent tools for special projects. Or raise his prices. Or do literally anything. That's capitalism.

What's make up cost? $2000? Doubt it. Upon any sort of close inspection, the argument that it costs too much is dumb, really dumb, like just the dumbest argument. He made an illogical, uninteresting, speculative comment with nothing to back it up and got downvoted. End of story.

Personally? I think complaining about downvotes or Reddiquette or circlejerking or basically anything having to do with metaSRD is a monumental waste of time, basically the equivalent of intellectual masturbation, and incredibly shallow. Blaming le circlejerk because you can't be arsed to think deeply about shit is just laziness excusing laziness.

Because I think Reddiquette is stupid. I think a downvote should be a disagree button. I think trying to hold serious "discussions" over the Internet with strangers is a waste of time. I don't particularly care about other people's political opinions, I don't care about their views about ethics in video games, and I don't care what they think about political correctness. I like smug circlejerks and pun threads. I like shit posting. Not everything has to be serious. The fact that all these bellends have taken that away from SRD annoys me. Their hypocrisy annoys me. Whining about Reddiquette while down voting me for disagreeing and bleating about censorship while getting the mods to ban shitposts about gamergate annoys me.

And, most importantly, what's the point of feeling superior to other people if they don't know you feel superior to them?

On the contrary, I love useful and insightful discussion! I'm all about it. I can't tell you how excited it makes me. It really makes me jump for joy.

I've just never seen it happen in the comment section of any website ever, and especially not on Reddit, especially not on SRD, and especially not during threads when people are complaining about a lack of useful and insightful discussion, like this one. So why even try? SRD can be fun and entertaining, and it's only fun and entertaining when it's userbase isn't trying to make everything a useful and insightful discussion. Racism is bad. We get it. You're tired of political correctness. Interesting opinion ya got there. The only useful and insightful discussion being had in this thread is this conversation we're having right now. The rest is smug circlejerking about smug circlejerking. Although, admittedly, I like smug circlejerking about any topic, I think it's best we call a spade a spade.
