It's not uncommon to see comments like that get pummeled. I can understand what the guy is trying to say and from a practical standpoint he is correct. If there were more dark skinned models you'd see people carry makeup that compliments it. Models with dark skin may not be proportionally represented but I don't see that guy arguing against that.

I'm assuming a good amount of SRD thought that was too close to excusing racism and needed to be down voted furiously. It's the kind of frustrating circle jerk that buries discussion.

Yeah that is stupid.

More and more often I'm seeing folks downvoting descriptions of things they don't like as if even talking about it is an endorsement of the situation.

Yeah, that's something that I've noticed a bit more of, especially with certain groups. I don't mind if you dislike a certain group or don't want to talk about it, but it's not nice when you're trying to have a level-headed discussion with another user, and someone decides to jump in with insults towards said group.

When has srd ever been a place for thoughtful discussion?

It was better than it used to be almost a year ago when I joined, the feel of the community has changed a fair bit.

Srd has never been all that friendly when it comes to divisive political issues, and guess what's been getting more common on reddit over the past 2 years?

I see it a lot when it gets near touchy subjects. Happens on SRD if you get close to That dude is a moron but he's not trying to say X all the time, just in Y case and so on.... Next thing you know you're a horrible person for defending a rapist mass murderer and just wrong on a molecular level no matter what happens next.

Not many people actually want to ask or have a conversation if they're not sure, they just vote.

"That dude is a moron but he's not trying to say X all the time, just in Y case and so on..."

That's something that is frustrating in the community. There's people who I think are "anti-reactionary", their beliefs are just opposing someone else's beliefs. It's especially prevalent in drama involvimg MRA's, GamerGate and Ellen Pao Drama.

I could probably make a 500-word essay on what I dislike about SRD, but it's not relevant at this discussion

I'm starting to worry that people are kneejerk-voting.

[–]nomadbishopkind of a prick

The point wasn't made as effectively as it could have been, so a few people misinterpreted it and downvoted.

And once the downvote train rolls out of the station, there's no stopping it.

Maybe it's cognitive bias, or the times I'm logging in, but I've seen some of my posts go from a small positive score to quite negative after the 4 hour limit has exceeded.

It could be asking too much of the mods, in some cases where users are going heavy-handed on circlejerks, putting the thread into contest mode could stop it.

No, no contest mode. Hide the vote scores for longer maybe, but no fucking contest mode.

I use to be against hiding scores because it seemed annoying, but I kinda want them hid for longer now.

People can be so lazily suggestible if they don't already have an opinion formed on something. I wouldn't be surprised if a hidden score throws off like 50% of the bandwagon up/down votes.

I haven't seen a really noticeable difference, tbh. Granted, it's pretty hard to tell while votes are still hidden, but it still seems like the same folks get upvoted and the same folks get downvoted. But that might just be me because, as much as I've seen people insist it helps, I've never seen a significant difference in any of the subs I go to.

Four hours isn't as much as it might seem. A post generally doesn't rise to the top until after four hours. By that point top comment trees have been established. Upvotes get the same bandwagon as usual by being more visible. People in the upper comment trees on the 'wrong' side of an argument will likely have lost their score invisibility by the time the majority of voters come in.

Contest mode is stupid.

Please no contest mode. It's god awful.

It's actually a pretty ill-informed opinion. These shows are huge and the people who run them spend massive amounts of money on them: they can damn well prepare for the models they bring in.

Because SRD only ever downvotes based on quality, right guys?
