The best part of college orientation was the PFLAG presentation about sexual orientation. They had a group of PFLAG members stand up front and invited a student up on stage to line them up from 100% gay to 100% straight. Then they revealed their Kinsey scale numbers and it was really enlightening for 18 year old me to learn about the gradations between straight/bi/gay.

The funny thing is, the older I get the more convinced I am that porn has precious little to do with sexuality in the first place. If you look at most porn, it's all about violence, dominance, and novelty. Very little porn these days even attempts to capture anything really intimate or sexual. It's all humiliation and genitals smashing together, which might be your idea of sex if you're Genghis Khan, but it certainly bears little resemblance to any sexual experience I've ever had.

It's depressing and nihilistic and disturbing.

Why can't there ever be porn with lengthy cuddling segments, or at least starring two human beings who seem legitimately attracted to each other and seem to actually enjoy what they're doing.

Yet straight women who like lesbian porn = hot ? A lot of people are turned on by watching someone they can imagine as themselves being in pleasure, its doesn't always matter who by. It's not like all porn you watch = all the sex you want to have in real life. A lot of people are turned on by depictions of sex that is "taboo" to them! That's not even what they want in real life.

Shit like this is why I really don't like putting hard labels on sexuality. I don't think anyone is that strict with something like musical preferences or other things of that nature so I don't see why everyone is so crazy about sexual ones.

      If a man says that they are exclusively attracted to men but they want to marry a woman for religious purposes are they straight? They admit that they aren't attracted to women, but they insist that they think sexuality is a choice. Would you have a dofficult time calling them straight?

      Now I am not saying I would insist on calling them bi in public because they would essentially be in the closet, but I would encourage them to think about it and realize that straight people do not watch gay porn.

      Not at all. When it comes to other people's identity, I'll always respect what they tell me above everything else. If they tell me they identify as straight, that's what I would call them. A person does not lose the right to self-identify only because you or me or anyone else disagrees with them.

      Why are you insisting so much on this? I'm sure some do. Orientation is not about behaviour but attraction, and watching any kind of porn is a behaviour. Some asexual people do watch porn, for various reasons, and it doesn't make them any less asexual. By the same logic, a straight person watching gay porn doesn't turn gay or bi. Porn is just fantasy for a lot of people and sometimes it doesn't even reflect what they'd like to do in reality.

      I completely understand, but the problem is that there is no middle ground. As soon as you admit that you enjoy gay porn then it makes you gay.

      That's not how sexually works, it works as a gradient instead of black/white gay/straight.
