I feel bad for him, most comments from gay men on him have absolutely nothing to do with his actual work and what not but are all about how hot he is and he has tried to distance himself from that but it's gotta be rough

I agree. So many of the comments on his FB posts from people are so cringey. Yes he is handsome but treat him with the respect he deserves not a piece of meat!

Don't. As a politician, part of his job is to increase his public profile, most comments from gay men may be about his appearance, but most gay men probably have zero comments about most junior congressmen. As one's profile rises, it becomes increasingly difficult to frame the conversation of the nattering classes, a ready source of scandal as scorn, and here ready made for all the nitwits is natter material. Now he just needs to be marginally competent

I was going to remove this thread as it's just a hot guy pic, however due to the discussion generated by this top level comment I'm leaving it up.

you know me Mass, I live to stir up comments :-D

So it's staying up because it manifested /r/gaybroscirclejerk?? ;-)

Soo much this ^

It's fine to think he's attractive. I do too, but please PLEASE don't vote for him just because you think he's "hot". Actually consider his policy.

It's our government not IML ;-)

fun fact, this is one of the reasons women weren't allowed to vote. They were seen as small minded & would judge man by his looks, more than his political slate.

I think, and I may be wrong, some of that was proven with electing Kennedy. I know there's something out there supporting that but I can't look for it right now

Is it actually a negative effect, though? I'm sure the gay men who only care about his looks would just not pay him any notice if he wasn't so handsome. The people who would care about his politics will still care even though he is also hot. It just seems like he gets some extra exposure.

if it lead to people finding out what he stands for sure, but i highly doubt it does :/

Well count me as one person who got interested in his politics after swooning over his beautiful face

[–]zwiebelsaftIAmAn ass man.

I personally wouldn't, since he's kind of a diva as a politician and has a somewhat mediocre voting record in my book. Plus, one can't help but wonder why his AMA session was on /r/Gaybros instead of /r/Politics, /r/Pennsylvania, /r/philadelphia or even /r/IAmA.

Presumably because the other subreddits didn't ask him to come.

[–]zwiebelsaftIAmAn ass man.

If you submit proof to /r/IAmA, you can have a session.

"People can't stop focusing on how hot I am. Please help!"

Edit: Confused. Am I being downvoted because y'all seriously think being too hot is a problem?

yes it is a problem.

Calm your thirst for a moment and think about it.

How can you be taken seriously when all anyone cares about his "how hot you are"

it's gotta be demoralizing.

He gets the benefits of being hot, he can get the downside (if one even exists) too.

Edit: So you guys think he should reap the benefits of the Attractive Bubble and not deal with any fallback whatsoever?

And honestly, I still think he's benefitting from his looks. QuestionSign's operating under a false premise in the first place and basing his entire opinion of gay men's reactions on this one thread in this one sub in one part of the Internet.

Most people aren't going to look at him and say "I want your hot body." They're just going to think "Something about him looks like a leader. I trust him and want to hear what he has to say." He'll be given more passes for mistakes and he'll get more recognition than an ugly candidate.

And even if people are just voting for him because he's attractive, it's still a vote. This poor, hot candidate...

Yep you're absolutely correct. Cry me a river "waaa I'm hot"

You're being downvoted because that little intersection on the Venn Diagram between "Socially Retarded" and "Computer Literate" is where reddit's user base lives.

It is difficult but I think there's an upside which is that people will listen to what he says. This gives you an opportunity to get a message out when people might not otherwise pay attention. A friend of mine who is an escort uses that platform to talk a lot about race and other issues within the gay community.

Wow I'm pretty, what a struggle

the bitterness people have and lack of perspective that i often see in this sub is sometimes just sad.

he wants to be taken as a serious politician not as your porn fantasy :/

Why is it "bitter" to be skeptical about an utterly ridiculous claim?

The fact that he's hot isn't a disadvantage. Your attempts to protect him from all of his imaginary detractors is strange, to say the least.

no it's bitter to act like because someone is attractive there isn't some type of difficulty associated with it.

so many of y'all have so many personal image issues you simply can't fathom that other people who you consider "hot" struggle with issues as well.

As someone who has no image issues, take it from me, "the difficulty associated with being hot" is all in your head.

I never said "Hot people don't struggle." You can be hot and struggle, and you can be rich and struggle.

Being hot doesn't make you immune to hardship, but it does open many more doors than it closes. It's objectively easier to be attractive than it is to be average or unattractive, just as it's easier to be rich than to be middle-class or poor.

Reading some of the responses yes it is in fact about attractiveness in general. My response was not just about you but the series of responses I've gotten on the matter.

I agree with you. You're saying that people focusing on his looks may open doors, but it also means people aren't listening to what he is saying and are rather just opening the doors, saying oh he's pretty, and leaving it at that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but your frustration is more with the fact that folks are less inclined to listen to the actual words he is saying because of this.

yes this is pretty much exactly why I find it frustrating

It is when you're a politician and trying to be taken seriously.

Honestly, how would you feel if a female politician was only taken seriously because she had big tits? It's incredibly disrespectful.

Ummm.... Sarah Palin?? Oh, yeah, she wasn't taken seriously. After she opened her mouth and Bush-isms spilled out. Before that, everyone was interested because she is attractive. If she had something intelligent to say, she would have gotten her foot in the door with the looks, and then been successful. Pretty people don't have to work at being intelligent because most of the time, people give them whatever they want just because they are attractive.
