I feel bad for him, most comments from gay men on him have absolutely nothing to do with his actual work and what not but are all about how hot he is and he has tried to distance himself from that but it's gotta be rough

I agree. So many of the comments on his FB posts from people are so cringey. Yes he is handsome but treat him with the respect he deserves not a piece of meat!

Don't. As a politician, part of his job is to increase his public profile, most comments from gay men may be about his appearance, but most gay men probably have zero comments about most junior congressmen. As one's profile rises, it becomes increasingly difficult to frame the conversation of the nattering classes, a ready source of scandal as scorn, and here ready made for all the nitwits is natter material. Now he just needs to be marginally competent

I was going to remove this thread as it's just a hot guy pic, however due to the discussion generated by this top level comment I'm leaving it up.

you know me Mass, I live to stir up comments :-D

So it's staying up because it manifested /r/gaybroscirclejerk?? ;-)

Soo much this ^

It's fine to think he's attractive. I do too, but please PLEASE don't vote for him just because you think he's "hot". Actually consider his policy.

It's our government not IML ;-)

fun fact, this is one of the reasons women weren't allowed to vote. They were seen as small minded & would judge man by his looks, more than his political slate.

I think, and I may be wrong, some of that was proven with electing Kennedy. I know there's something out there supporting that but I can't look for it right now

Is it actually a negative effect, though? I'm sure the gay men who only care about his looks would just not pay him any notice if he wasn't so handsome. The people who would care about his politics will still care even though he is also hot. It just seems like he gets some extra exposure.

if it lead to people finding out what he stands for sure, but i highly doubt it does :/

Well count me as one person who got interested in his politics after swooning over his beautiful face

[–]zwiebelsaftIAmAn ass man.

I personally wouldn't, since he's kind of a diva as a politician and has a somewhat mediocre voting record in my book. Plus, one can't help but wonder why his AMA session was on /r/Gaybros instead of /r/Politics, /r/Pennsylvania, /r/philadelphia or even /r/IAmA.

Presumably because the other subreddits didn't ask him to come.

[–]zwiebelsaftIAmAn ass man.

If you submit proof to /r/IAmA, you can have a session.

Mediocre voting record?

"People can't stop focusing on how hot I am. Please help!"

Edit: Confused. Am I being downvoted because y'all seriously think being too hot is a problem?

yes it is a problem.

Calm your thirst for a moment and think about it.

How can you be taken seriously when all anyone cares about his "how hot you are"

it's gotta be demoralizing.

He gets the benefits of being hot, he can get the downside (if one even exists) too.

Edit: So you guys think he should reap the benefits of the Attractive Bubble and not deal with any fallback whatsoever?

And honestly, I still think he's benefitting from his looks. QuestionSign's operating under a false premise in the first place and basing his entire opinion of gay men's reactions on this one thread in this one sub in one part of the Internet.

Most people aren't going to look at him and say "I want your hot body." They're just going to think "Something about him looks like a leader. I trust him and want to hear what he has to say." He'll be given more passes for mistakes and he'll get more recognition than an ugly candidate.

And even if people are just voting for him because he's attractive, it's still a vote. This poor, hot candidate...

Yep you're absolutely correct. Cry me a river "waaa I'm hot"

You're being downvoted because that little intersection on the Venn Diagram between "Socially Retarded" and "Computer Literate" is where reddit's user base lives.

It is difficult but I think there's an upside which is that people will listen to what he says. This gives you an opportunity to get a message out when people might not otherwise pay attention. A friend of mine who is an escort uses that platform to talk a lot about race and other issues within the gay community.

Wow I'm pretty, what a struggle

the bitterness people have and lack of perspective that i often see in this sub is sometimes just sad.

he wants to be taken as a serious politician not as your porn fantasy :/

Why is it "bitter" to be skeptical about an utterly ridiculous claim?

The fact that he's hot isn't a disadvantage. Your attempts to protect him from all of his imaginary detractors is strange, to say the least.

no it's bitter to act like because someone is attractive there isn't some type of difficulty associated with it.

so many of y'all have so many personal image issues you simply can't fathom that other people who you consider "hot" struggle with issues as well.

As someone who has no image issues, take it from me, "the difficulty associated with being hot" is all in your head.

no it's bitter to act like because someone is attractive there isn't some type of difficulty associated with it.

so many of y'all have so many personal image issues you simply can't fathom that other people who you consider "hot" struggle with issues as well.

I never said "Hot people don't struggle." You can be hot and struggle, and you can be rich and struggle.

Being hot doesn't make you immune to hardship, but it does open many more doors than it closes. It's objectively easier to be attractive than it is to be average or unattractive, just as it's easier to be rich than to be middle-class or poor.

Reading some of the responses yes it is in fact about attractiveness in general. My response was not just about you but the series of responses I've gotten on the matter.

I agree with you. You're saying that people focusing on his looks may open doors, but it also means people aren't listening to what he is saying and are rather just opening the doors, saying oh he's pretty, and leaving it at that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but your frustration is more with the fact that folks are less inclined to listen to the actual words he is saying because of this.

yes this is pretty much exactly why I find it frustrating

[–]Nezgul 8

It is when you're a politician and trying to be taken seriously.

Honestly, how would you feel if a female politician was only taken seriously because she had big tits? It's incredibly disrespectful.

Ummm.... Sarah Palin?? Oh, yeah, she wasn't taken seriously. After she opened her mouth and Bush-isms spilled out. Before that, everyone was interested because she is attractive. If she had something intelligent to say, she would have gotten her foot in the door with the looks, and then been successful. Pretty people don't have to work at being intelligent because most of the time, people give them whatever they want just because they are attractive.

than that was a really shitty photo that he posed for.

yeah damn him for having fun and trying to live a life! damn him to hell!

if he wants to 'distance himself' than this was a shit decision. this seems like common sense.

don't get me wrong— he is an attractive man, and quite frankly he knows his audience.

but truly what i love most about him is his politics. an actual young liberal/progressive? one who's not ashamed of being so? way into it. he doesn't appear to have much interest in tempering his politics in any way, and honestly how many young liberals are out there making it happen? it's why we lose elections; bc we don't get out there to rock that vote.

he's shaking it up, he's shaking his ass, and i'm waaaaiting for his u.s. congressional run.

What do you consider "young", he is 36. Don't get me wrong if 36 is young then that makes me very happy.

compared to the rest of the political machine? yes, that's young. :)

That's extreeeemely young for a politician. Most of them are 50+ and always have been.

Even President Obama is considered young in the political world even though he has two children and a wife.

i think politically speaking that's young

You lose elections because of $ and liberals suck. Social liberals are failing everywhere and I couldn't be happier. The word is getting dirtier for a reason and liberals should stop trying to taint every new word they claim. If there's one thing that the left and right hate, it's liberals. It's about time liberals are sidelined. Democrats think they can sustain a party on minority votes, but that will lose traction over time as minorities realize that the Democrats don't care about them or don't need them anymore. Hopefully one day they're left with only a base of young professionals and become a third party, making room for alternative parties. If only we could take a hammer and smash the Democrats and Republicans into multiple parties..

Brian Sims is one of the only guys that makes me swoon like a teenage girl. I wish he was my representative, so I could have a valid excuse to send him emails.

What about John Barrowman??

Also attractive, but he doesn't render me down to the swoon. I honestly don't know what it is about Brian Sims that makes me do it, especially since there are other guys I find just as hot as him but don't illicit the same response.

As someone already said, I feel bad for Brian, people only talk about how much they want to sit on his dick. He's a very intelligent man, his looks should not be why you'd vote for him. He's done a lot of great work in PA.

This was him when he used to be a football player in high school

He's definitely got my vote. And anything else he wants.

I love how he's out and pro-LGBT, but I see him and think about Aaron Schock. I don't trust hot, young legislators with Instagram accounts any more.

Gimme that Instagram account.

His instagram is briansimspa. His facebook also has some handsome pics.

Urgh, that Instagram account makes me cringe...No content consistency, shit-quality promotional/enforcement materials and empty-worded posts. Someone get this guy a comms intern!

Aaron Schock is a Republican. Why the fuck would you have ever trusted him in the first place?

because even liberals are hoping the next generation of GOP swings away from the severe crazy they are in right now

because even liberals are hoping the next generation of GOP swings away from the severe crazy they are in right now

The next-generation of GOP isn't stupid… they know they need the blessing of the old guard to get elected. Conservatism is the antithesis of progress, so it's not surprising that they are progressing on these issues very slowly…

Schock's voting record certainly didn't bear that hope out.

You can hope in one hand and shit in the other, then tell me which one fills up first. People who don't pay attention (or can't manage to simply Google "[X Politician's] voting record") shouldn't vote.

Can I ask why you associate the two? Do you think that Aaron Shock was unethical because he participated in social media?

ITT: Gays are mean when it come to Politics. Seriously dudes, he's hot and very influential in my home city. It's a great combo and his picture on an article about the city budget is actually an article I'm going to read now. Y'all need to stop down voting.

Help me, u/sizzlebutt666, you're my only hope.

Brian seems like a genuinely awesome dude. He has two Facebook pages, a personal and political one. He's a great guy that really sticks up for the minorities. He also will explain political things pretty often.

I actually listened to him speak at a Pride Picnic last year. It was at Knoebels (a free entry amusement park in PA). I was swooning. Got a pic of him while he was talking.

He's so goddamn moist right now.

He has a boyfriend and now all my dreams and hopes are crushed.

Let's take a moment to honor that boyfriend's struggle. He must be beating off (in a crowd control way) legions of sluts trying to get their lips on his man. Probably carries a Taser.

His only flaw is supporting Hillary over Sanders.

If you even consider that a flaw

I don't think she'd be a horrible president or anything, I actually agree with her on most issues. I just agree with Sanders on more.

Hillary likes comcast, was an executive at walmart, and voted for the war in Iraq. Do you stand for that?

No, but Clinton will be better then Sanders when it comes to trying to pass the White House policy agenda through Congress. I support Sanders and his ideas but in actuality we need more people like him in Congress, moreso than the White House to enact actual change.

We may wind up with a Clinton/Sanders ticket, you never know.

No, but Clinton will be better then Sanders when it comes to trying to pass the White House policy agenda through Congress.

Why do you say that? Sanders has experience with obstructionism from his time as mayor. He dealt with a city council that actively tried to ensure he had no successes, but still went on to be reelected 4 times. Furthermore, I honestly don't think Clinton is any different from the other corporately-bought Democrats in Congress.

I really don't know enough about either at this point, but I'm curious what makes you say that?

If Sanders gets the nom, the Republicans will retake the White House. Do you stand for that?

Sanders polls higher than every Republican candidate and his support is growing.

This is what happened in Canada back in 2011. When it looked like the NDP was gonna win, everyone in "the middle" went right to stop that from happening and we ended up with one of the worst governments in our history and have been powerless now to stop a full-steam-ahead railroad right into the ground.
I think Sanders sounds cool, but I have to say that as a Canadian in 2011 I was devastated when the election results came back. I think a Hilary-Sanders ticket is a lot stronger than Sanders-Hilary or Sanders on his own.
I think Sanders as President would bring the renaissance America has needed, but seeing him up there would cause a lot of democrats who fear "socialism" to turn right.

I've met Brian a couple of times (my boss in college, a Dean, was friends with him and he would come up to Rutgers sometimes for social justice-related events, etc). Nice guy. But (pls don't get all huffy that I'm saying this) he and my boss used to get lunch sometimes and there was more than one instance when my boss came back telling me Brian had asked for my number. I was obviously flattered, he's a handsome guy, but I never felt comfortable with that - I was 22, he was mid-30s and asking my BOSS for my number. Always made me uneasy.

That said, I wish him the best in his political career.

If we are talking about sexy politicians then look up John F. Kennedy or even Ronald Reagan when he was an actor. Hell even Bill got dome in the oval office. We tend to find people more like-able when they are handsome/ attractive.

++He does great work for his state and district. We are more than our sexuality bros.

I follow him on FB. Being from PA, it's great seeing LGBT representation in the political spectrum. And he's also incredibly attractive for a politician.

He's also spoken out about issues outside of LGBT rights and seems like a well-rounded individual. Hopefully he can go on to do big and better things than the Statehouse (not that being the first out man in the PA House isn't an accomplishment in its own).
