If this happened in Australia a fat angry bogan would have come out and yelled at you for almost hitting her car and scaring the french fries out of her cup holder. The dog would have been her skinny ice head man friend who would kick you in the face while you're down and your motorbike bro would have been some tradesman in a Ute who would have run over your arm and yelled ' THATS FOR SPLITTING CARNT"

How do the missing digits affect your ability to clutch? Did that happen before you started riding?

It happened before I started riding. I was 16. It doesn't affect much at all. I just had to adjust the lever a little.

The ding in the tank was already there. Made by the previous owner (my father).

Yeah, I knew it was portugal, just wasn't sure where exactly. I've passed there about a month ago. I'm a bit more to the south. Went there to hopefully buy a KE36 corolla. Came back with an empty trailer and the money still in my wallet, sadly.

Well, we all have our spills sometimes, and scars like that mean that the bike simply isn't one that is used only on the weekends to go to the coffe shop down the block (I hope it's not the case)

I am glad your okay. But, why would you take one hand off the controls so close to a car? I am very new to riding and I have already had a few instances that would have resulted in a crash had I not been ready. If anything, take your right hand off the controls, that way you can still pull the clutch in and use your back brake in a pinch.

We've all done something stupid, it happens. I always tell people that go down, don't worry, at least you aren't the guy (hint: me) who dropped his motorcycle while sitting on it.... turned off... in his own parking lot. (I was going to kick start it, but had already put the kickstand up. It was a bike that was easy to kick, so I would kick it sitting on the bike... well I lost my balance kicking, my jeans were caught in the kickstand, and I fell over to the left, with the bike on top of me, and my leg between bike and pavement. Then I got up quickly, started it, and rode off before anyone saw me)

My old ZX11 had been in for a service and they hadn't reattached my Scottoiler vacuum pipe, but when the bike was leaned it must have sufficiently seated to idle smoothly.

Cue me, the day after the service riding to work so I can drop the bike in on lunch. It's early, I'm tired, when I get to work I decide to lean the bike to see if it still idles smoothly whilst leaned.

You can see where this is going right?

Sure enough, it idled smoothly on a lean. So I let it go. Side stand wasn't down.

At 300ish KG wet (with comms and rack) I ended up waiting for a colleague to help me get it back up.

tl;dr: 'Put' my bike on its side in my work car park because I'm a fucking moron.

Don't think so. This wasn't a situation where locked up wheels resulted in a fall as much as too short of stopping distance and he didn't have his hands/bike/handlebars straight when he went to brake.

I've been in similar situations at least twice and in both situations I heard the ABS activating and bringing the bike to a stable stop. In both situations it helped and probably saved me from crashing.

Glad your safe and it looks like the bike was in fairly good condition. Could had been a lot worse if you had made contact to the car.
