She said Reddit defines harassment as repeated actions "to torment or demean someone" in a way that would make them think the site is unsafe or to fear for their safety.

Considering I cannot speak freely without fear of being shadowbanned for my opinion, because heaven forbid I believe in anything opposite of Pao/reddit, I think reddit is unsafe for me to be my unique identity. Does the mean that reddit is harassing me, as defined by Pao?

No, because reasons that will not be disclosed. I apologize for the inconvenience, hope your experience in reddit is satisfactory, we'll work to make the site better.

Quick, somebody who knows who this site works, make this message appear on the site and put a ridiculous ammount of upvotes, like six hundred or so, as soon as it is published.

I'm glad I wasn't the only person who felt like that shit was manipulated.

It had to be. I believe the majority of reddit really don't care but the people who do care would have downvote her to oblivion just because. Probably why it took a few days to respond as they didn't have to tools in place to ensure she could fix karma on a single comment.

I am unsure how these terms are being defined, if they are being defined at all.

Just from my perspective: an unsafe website means it's got viruses on it, there's illegal content like cp, or my personal information is likely to be compromised.

Fearing for my safety would be like if someone was posting my personal information and threatening or inciting violence against me. Besides that I can't think off of the top of my head any scenario where a website would cause me to fear my safety. And honestly, I'd love for someone to show up at my place

I totally understand that no body should be tormented or demeaned, ie. being an asshole. Individual subreddits should decide how to go about that. But really this seems like doublespeak for protecting people from getting their feelings hurt. We live in the world, the world is filled with assholes. We can't be protected from them all the time.

If a subreddit is filled with assholes, don't go there. If someone's demeaning you, ignore and block them. Does this shit really make people unsafe?

You reminded me of ruining my health at everyone's else expense thanks to socialized healthcare by overeating and not exercising - things I could literally change this second.

This reminds me of the trauma I experience as a perpetual victim of society by not being a well educated, hard working and law abiding citizen for whom this system of the modern Western world has been built! I thus feel negatively.

THIS PLACE IS UNSAFE! SOMEONE HELP ME! and make me feel good about myself again.

That's actually a reasonable definition of harassment. Trouble is that the scope of the phrase is much wider as when used by the reddit staff and quite a few mods.

I like how she threw the entire team under the bus for her own actions. A mark of a true leader

Much better for /r/Blackout2015.

And this:

"...following the dismissal last week of a well-liked Reddit employee."

"well-liked"

More like the only fucking one that was useful and that the mods could talk to.

full quote

Kicking off the protest was Reddit's dismissal of Victoria Taylor, Reddit's director of talent, on Thursday. Taylor was known to Reddit's moderators, who run the message boards on a volunteer basis, because she coordinated the site's popular Ask Me Anything (AMA) platform where celebrities, political leaders and other influential people take questions from the Reddit community.

This is ridiculous to the point of asinine. It doesnt cover how it fucked over the community. Didnt tell anyone, threw the subreddt under the bus, fucked up a bunch of scheduled AMA's. It was more then the firing, which sucks, it was how it was handled and how disrespectful and irresponsible it was in regards to that subreddit.

Shitty journalism run amok...

"Pao on Monday apologized for not properly communicating recent changes to the site and for failing to deliver on promises for improvement."

Um, lots of people were really upset with Pao over that.

That was the main reason why the subs went dark, because the admins never really communicated with the moderator teams or provided new tools despite their multiple promises to.

Askreddit's sidebar timer even says this is the reason

The admins have agreed to better communication with mods and to release improved mod tools by September 30 2015, and new mod mail by December 31 2015.

Your revolt has completely been co-opted by mods and power users instead of generally being about the normal guy.

[–]Letsgetacid 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

And then krispykrackers later confirmed new mod mail is definitely not happening this year. Quite hilarious.

The Bloomberg's guy analysis was not too terrible. I'm surprised.

"We screwed up," Pao wrote in a statement posted on the site Monday. "Today, we acknowledge this long history of mistakes," she said while vowing to implement changes to improve the site.

Now I see why she did that.

Every media outlet will quote her in the most positive way possible.

Ignoring the idiocy of the entire event.
