I think it'd be tough to go to a Comicon as Deadpool. All eyes would be on you to do something funny. So much pressure.

You think that's hard, try being Deadpool on a popular internet forum 24/7.

Dance Monkey! Dance!

Did he dance and I missed it?

You were focusing too much on the number of times they passed the ball.

I was extremely distraught over the lack of moonwalking.

I just re-watched this 5 times looking for a ball... I have no idea what you're talking about

There was a classic physchcology experiment where you watch a video of kids playing with a basketball and are told to count how many times they pass the ball. During the video a guy in a bear costume saunters through the kids playing with the ball but most people don't notice because they are counting.

You apparently were too focused on the ball passing too... It was a gorilla, not a bear.

Gorilla: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJG698U2Mvo

Ha, that's funny because it's a well-known experiment, so it shouldn't have been a surprise that there are alternative versions of it. The above video is the original, but the bear version is noted! Thanks!

Edit: I just went back and watched the bear video all the way through and realized it's an advert. My world is all messed up now!

They opened the barn door and peered down at the corpse below. Dorthy's dead eyes still stared in horror at the last thing she saw. "She looks ready" said Ben with a hunger. He bent down and slid the forceps between her legs. Paul stood watching and let out a soft moan. With a slimy sound, Ben slowly pulled out a large thick spider. It was at that moment he realized he left his Facebook page open back at home.

To stand out amongst the rest, you start the convention doing tragic, well-written things while keeping a quirky, endearing perspective on them. Throughout the weekend you become less and less intelligent and amusing, and opt to simply rack up goofball points because that's what the people want. That I would pay to see!

I've thought a few times about going to a con as Spider Jerusalem, since I already have the head tattoo, but unless I could procure a very dangerous amount of drugs, I think the expectation to perform might wear me down

They could make little Spiderpools. That sounds like a horrific thing though, so let's go with Deadspiders.

Dead spiders = best spiders.

Fun fact: spiders don't bite (source). Most spiders lack the strength to break human skin, so even if they did bite, it wouldn't do much. This blog is how I learned to stop worrying and love the spiders. Well, some of them. Like this one!

Reread that article...spiders DO bite just not often humans. Several spiders (he even mentions the recluse) bite humans...here's a small list.

Jesus. I have arachnophobia and I'm ashamed to admit that when the huntsman image wiggled I jumped a little.

Why is that the only one that moves!?

The various forms of the huntsman spiders are known for their odd methods of moving. Some do cartwheels, front flips, springing small jumps, etc. That's what's on the wiki article on them.

That list only lists American spiders. You want a serious spider? These Darth Vader/Nightshade fucks CHASE humans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sydney_funnel-web_spider

I'm confused. I'd always been told and read that wolf spiders were scary-looking but harmless. We get these guys in our house all the time. They're almost always dead when we find them though.

Edit: Yup, basically harmless: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_spider#Venom

So now I don't know how much of that chart I can actually trust...

The problem with spiders isn't them biting. It's them existing and looking like they do.

I have a huge scar on my chest where I got bit by a spider and the wound got all gross and swollen. Eight years later and the scar is still a big pink blotch on my lily white skin.

Fool me once spiders. Fool me once.

Bullshit. Spiders do bite, they just mainly aren't aggressive to things thousands of times bigger than them. If you trap one underneath a shirt by accident, for example, there's a good chance you will be bitten.

I learned to stop worrying and love the spiders

that's not reassuring, considering it immediately reminded me of Dr. strangelove.

You don't live in Australia do you?

I don't give a fuck if they can bite me or not. It's not about being scared of getting hurt.

The official term is Spideypool.

Spiderman can't see us, deadpool helped him break the fourth wall. That's why he looks confused.

is that how it works? I mean i know deadpool breaks the 4th wall sometimes but i think that would kinda be a cool super power... if you touch some one they are immediately aware there is an audience viewing them and they freak out/get distracted

In a "Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe," Professor X tried to read his mind only to find out about the fourth wall. It was more than he could handle.

According to Liefeld (co-creator of Deadpool), his mask was designed after Spider-Man's because it was easier to draw a character over and over again when they wear a face-covering mask.

For a character like Deadpool, I really fucking hate that Liefeld is a co-creator.

Why?

Wow, that was cool, at first all those looked pretty okay to me, but then reading the commentary... Yeah, wtf? How do you get a job at Marvel if you can't draw as good as ... the random anime loving kid in the back of class?

You get in the game early before people can learn to be better than you and interested in working in the same industry.

That'll do it! Now if I could just find my time machine...

I know right?

This is the Instagram of a guy I went to art school with who does work for Marvel. He's one of the most talented people I met in school. I mean shit, compare his work to any of Liefeld's and it's just mind boggling to me.

I wasn't a huge fan of his at the time (more of a Todd McFarlane, Sam Kieth kinda guy), but people liked his work because it was very stylized. In the comic book world at that time (about the late 80s) you had a lot of competent artists, but most of them were boring John Buscema/John Romita Sr. copycats. There wasn't a whole lot of attention paid to making one's work really stand out (with notable exceptions of course). Then towards the end of the decade and the beginning of the 90s, all of a sudden this huge new swath of guys came in and they all had extremely unique styles. It was really exciting. Guys like McFarlane, Liefeld, and Jim Lee. It was fun, and added a lot of life to the genre. We didn't realize then how excessive and over-the-top it had all become. Then they did all of those special collector editions, and then a number of those artists went off and formed Image, and the whole thing just got kinda bland. Liefeld got in at the right place at the right time.

It's interesting, I go into a comic book shop now after not having collected in 20 years, and the talent on display (I mean REAL talent) is almost overwhelming. Readers today don't know how good they have it as far as the artwork is concerned.

Also there used to be a website called Swipe of the Week that documented comicbook art that has obviously been traced from existing comicbook artwork. Guess who was the most common swiper?

Bill Hanstock is incredibly salty that Rob Liefeld had a job at Marvel and he didn't, wow

As a heterosexual woman who almost exclusively watches gay (man) porn and always has, I am very perplex but curious about this sub.

Why do straight guys like gay porn? This is an honest question, not a judgement.

Straight dudes who like gay porn are gay dudes who are gay.

I can't tell if you're serious and that sub is, like, satirical or if the "we're not gay/bisexual" comment in the sub's sidebar is truthful.

This is all very confusing!

It's truthful, there's a lot of straight guys who like gay porn. There's plenty of people who have fantasies about being eaten (okay, not LOADS), but the vast majority of those don't actually want to be eaten.

What about lesbian porn? I can tell you now that if you're a man, sex with a lesbian is going to be pretty underwhelming. But it's fine in porn, because real life and fantasy don't have to be linked.

That subreddit is just a bit sarcastic, but there's definitely straight guys looking at gay porn there.

There are plenty of straight dudes who like gay porn

Pretty sure that's called being gay.

Checking out Porn doesn't make someone gay...However: "There are plenty of straight dudes who like fucking gay men" - Would most certainly make you gay...or at least bi.

No, sexuality is fluid. A lot of people can fantasize about one thing and not actually enjoy it in real life.

No. That's not how this works.

In gay porn men are shown as the objects of desire; it can be hot to feel like there is someone out there with that hunger for you. In the majority of straight porn men aren't portrayed that way.

Source: complete conjecture.

In the majority of straight porn men aren't portrayed that way.

Therein lies the majority of the reason I do not like straight porn. Plus I like naked men a whole lot, so seeing two of them at once is super awesome good times, yeah!

A gay friend told me there is apparently straight porn made for gay men (and women, I suppose) that is shot so it focuses more on the man than the woman without being unsubtle.

Best real reason given.

Somehow it turned into one of the more active gay porn subs, so there are actually a lot of gay and bi guys there.

But in terms of the "straight" thing, I think there is a complicated mixture of stuff going on. There isn't really universal agreement about how sexual orientation should be defined and categorized, largely because non-heterosexual orientations are still to some extent taboo. For the most part, we define sexual orientation in terms of who we are attracted to, but for some people it's about who we have relationships with, or something else. So some men who are attracted to both men and women consider themselves straight because they are married to a woman, for example.

In addition, there are lots of people who desperately cling to the straight identity for some time while they are coming to terms with being gay/bi. When I was growing up, everything I heard about gay people was extremely negative, so I didn't think of myself as "gay" for a long time after I had accepted that I was only attracted to other boys. And then some gay guys fetishize straight guys in the same way that straight guys fetishize lesbians (or the same way that you fetishize gay guys :P), so some people who hang out at the sub just like the idea of straight guys being into gay porn. And also some straight guys might fetishize the idea of gay sex without really being interested in trying it, in the same way that some people might watch BDSM videos but hate the idea of actually trying it irl.

Some of these reasons also help to explain why it's so hard to measure the proportion of the population who are gay or bi, and why slightly different surveys can obtain very different results.

fellow hetero gay loving woman here. Can I ask about your thoughts on this video? I find it quite the masterpiece

Huh, this probably isn't the right subreddit to ask this but does anyone know a good place to look for discussions of sex and sexuality in an academic context? (I don't mean like sex in a library, I mean literal academic analysis of sexuality.)

It's just ocurred to me that even though I talk about sex regularly I've never actually studied it... you know, with my first brain, not my second brain.

It takes a special type of person to cosplay dead pool at a convention. I went to a local comic con as Ashe with my girlfriend as Misty. I had a pikachu plushie with me and she had a togepi. This dude dressed as deadpool kept trying to lock eyes with me and after like an hour of avoiding contact with him I finally looked at him. The guy grabbed a pokemon plushie from a nearby vendor table and did that football warmup run in place thing for a bit shouting out the pokemon trainer encounter music, and then threw his plushie at me. I threw mine back and asked my girlfriend for her togepi. The guy was all out of plushies so he fled. Everytime I ran into him again he looked down. It was bizzare and amazing all the same.

The most obnoxious thing at any con is a deadpool. Every person dressed as deadpool wants to role play and stay fucking role playing the entire convention. They grind on random people, carry boom boxes blaring loud ass techno, photo bomb everyone, hump peoples legs and just act like fucking idiots. We get it, you have a dead pool costume but you ARE NOT dead pool. Fucking A.
