Its hard to pick a reason why I hate this.

  1. Its got a "kimura trap" poster from Marcus Avellan in the background, and Avellan is one of LI's homeboys. Fuck LI and everyone who still associates with him.

  2. Its an overtly sexualized bit of fluff that cheapens our sport and is offensive to women.

I think I gotta go with #1, with #2 being an extremely close second.

There's always examples of overly sexualized content for anything that has a strong male following. It's impossible escape now-a-days because sex sells.

Reason 1: Fair.

Reason 2: Ridiculous. By "overly sexualized" you're implying that you personally feel titillated. This is along with your "offensive to women" is hetero-normative. What if gay guys feel titillated by seeing two men demonstrate a move? What if female practioners also like the female form?

At some point, people decided that to masquerade as enlightened, they had to be puritans. IDK why that is. There's nothing shameful about the human form, and there's nothing shameful about liking to look at it.

"Overly sexualized" = thing that any typical victorian era religious zealot or censor could utter. It's an authoritarian mindset. If you don't it, fine. But the rest of us don't need you to dictate what "cheapens" our sport. Life is short, lighten up and have fun and don't be a sexually repressed killjoy desperately trying to impress random usernames on the internet.

Your complaint about reason 2 is total horseshit.
The reason why it's "overly sexualized" is that it's purely prurient, with no actual worthwhile content. Both people in the demonstration are moving with no skill or understanding of what they're supposed to be doing with their bodies whatsoever.

[–]BJJCollective 2ポイント3ポイント  (1子コメント)

There are not many uses of the word "prurient" in the history of the english language. hahaha

[–]_eternalreturn_Paul Creighton 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

XD yeah, I suppose that's true

[–]ElSchooler -3ポイント-2ポイント  (2子コメント)

"pru·ri·ent ˈpro͝orēənt/ adjective adjective: prurient

having or encouraging an excessive interest in sexual matters."

Who are you to decide what is excessive? You sound like a high inquisitor. Moreover, excessive implies harm. If you can view it without being altered into some sort of deviant, why do you assume others can't?

[–]_eternalreturn_Paul Creighton 2ポイント3ポイント  (1子コメント)

If you can view it without being altered into some sort of deviant

I couldn't. I am now a deviant.
Send help, pls

Are you really trying to say that MMAcandy doesn't overtly sexualize bjj for the purpose of getting views? Get out of here...

[–]HxrdcoreParkour 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Overtly, and excessively are two different things. Yes, overtly. Excessively, no.

[–]gunslinger_006Team McVicker 5ポイント6ポイント  (10子コメント)

That was a fantastic bit of projection you just did, but the reason I say it was oversexualized, is that those ladies are the MMA Candy ladies and no one takes them seriously. The only reason for that channel or the gif that was posted to exist at all is to mix softcore porn with MMA.

Your strawman attacks in response to my objection to the sexualization of BJJ say a lot more about you than they do about me.

Also the fact that you had to create a throwaway just to argue with me is pathetic.

[–]BJJCollective 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Have you seen this one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htGtsnBqXFg

That chick on the bottom is an actual porn star.

Or so I've heard...

I had to research it for the site...

What's crazy is, this weird online mob behavior is just that: exclusively online. Having trained at over 4 large gyms, this sort of stuff is passed around without judgment, scorn, condemnation, and certainly without anathematizing anyone. This bizarrre, incoherent, puritanism only exists online. To push it further, it's a bizarre form of exhibitionism to try to attack others for innate human appetites that are widely shared.

No one has yet to answer this simple question: What is the harm in this gif? Don't say "sexualizing our sport", because (1) what does that even mean? and (2) If so, what's the harm in that?!

Really? Because this kind of shit absolutely would not fly at the gym I train at. I'm sorry the gyms you trained at were so shitty.

(1) what does that even mean?

It means that the gif serves zero purpose other than to be titillating. It is little more than a soft core porn clip that happens to be set in a bjj environment. It is no more about jiu-jitsu than Debbie Does Dallas was about cheerleading.

and (2) If so, what's the harm in that?!

The harm in it is that it reinforces the notion that a woman's prinary value is in how attractive she is. If this were someone like Reibiero, Dern, Nicollini, Galvao, Gracie, Kwok, etc. demonstrating an actual technique, with actual skill, that would be a different thing. Because what is up front there is their skill at jiu-jitsu, not how they look in a sports bra.

[–]ElSchooler -2ポイント-1ポイント  (1子コメント)

This is exactly what I'm talking about:

"I'm sorry the gyms you trained at were so shitty."

You deny my charges that you people are grand standing and making a self-righteous spectacle by anathematizing others, yet now you claim to be able to derive the quality, moral and otherwise, of my gym just by knowing whether a particular gif was spread? GTFO. How wrong you are. How silly and petty you are.

As for the rest: "zero purpose other than to be titillating" 1) Were you titillated? 2) So what?

"The harm in it is that it reinforces the notion that a woman's prinary value is in how attractive she is."

It does not do that. You yourself refute this. You watched the gif but you clearly don't believe that, so why do you tyrannically insist that the rest of us can't walk and chew bubblegum at the same time?

It's the standard flaw in any pro-censorship argument. If the material truly corrupts us, then the censor is the most perverse and warped of all as they're the person seeing it before you.

All other sports have these sorts of things going on, and no one confuses it for "reinforcing" anything. Aesthetic value can be an end in and of itself. It's a sign of human enlightenment when we ignored the sexual repressed hysterics that tried to censor the human form and accepted this.

If your gym allows and encourages shitty behavior, it's a shitty gym. It's pretty simple that way.

It does not do that. You yourself refute this. You watched the gif but you clearly don't believe that, so why do you tyrannically insist that the rest of us can't walk and chew bubblegum at the same time?

Yes it does, and yes I do believe that. Name one other purpose that this gif serves? To teach people a "technique" that won't work at all if they try to use it?

It's the standard flaw in any pro-censorship argument. If the material truly corrupts us, then the censor is the most perverse and warped of all as they're the person seeing it before you.

It's not the viewing of the material in isolation. It's viewing the material and then distributing it to others, presenting it at a great gif that you need to watch, but totally not because of the titties, no sir, because of… um, something. Then those people turn around and do the same thing. Meanwhile, not a single damn one of them is posting/distributing gifs of techniques by women who are actually skilled in BJJ, because that's not what they want to see because it doesn't pleas their penis.

All other sports have these sorts of things going on, and no one confuses it for "reinforcing" anything

Really? Because when I do see things like this associated with other sports, there are people who are starting to speak up about it. There's been plenty of talk recently about things like the use of podium girls in cycling and ring card girls in MMA. If you haven't seen it, it just means you aren't actually paying attention.

It's a sign of human enlightenment when we ignored the sexual repressed hysterics that tried to censor the human form and accepted this.

No one here is trying to censor the human form. We are trying to say that this shit has nothing to do with BJJ, and if it's going to be posted somewhere, it should be posted in a porn sub, where at least the intention of the image is clear.

[–]Gentle_Beard 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Mostly just that the technique is terrible.
