Statistically she's right.

The vast majority of redditors are people who don't have accounts, and some on to see some funny pictures and could give a fuck less about politics.

That being said, the people who make the content ARE THE FUCKING VOCAL MINORITY, because they give a fuck about the content they create and foster.

It's like having a cow in a village, where everyone loves milk. You milk the cow and take a shit in the milk, because you're a fucking idiot. When people get upset about the milk, you go kill the cow and decree that now there won't be any shitty milk.

Which there won't because there won't be any milk.

If the 1% of creators move to http://voat.co the 9% of commenters will follow. Then the 90% of lurkers who don't give a shit about 'reddit' or 'facebook' or whatever the delivery platform is, will follow.

TL;DR: Everyone follows /u/Gallowboob

I don't know who gallowboob is, but I assume they are posting the same 1/9/90 rule? It's pretty well known.

Look at Digg and MrBabyMan. ALthough MBB pissed me off a lot more than /u/gallowboob

Thank you for linking that wiki article, very interesting stuff. I had a feeling for all that was said there but I had never realised it had been analysed like that.

The internet is probably one of the most interesting things that has happened to the social sciences.

it's the beginning of humanities transcendence of their physical form! one species overcoming all barriers to unite and discuss our collective misery, and how to finally solve it!

my vote is on building a robotic mining/manufacturing operation on the moon to build and then send automated terraforming equipment to mars, but some people don't like that for some reason, they think we're going to "fuck up" the closest dead rock to us in infinite space, i don't understand.

I think first things first, we have to fix numbers.

The economic system... wipe it, and start over. The private ledgers of the banks are so horrifically corrupt and meaningless that trying to repair them is an effort in futility. It needs to be started over. Bitcoin is probably a good start... the ledgers are public.

And more or less, that's what's needed. Honesty and transparency. Everything else will follow. Until then, it's just throwing money at a problem with the problem is in and of itself the very money being thrown.

I totally agree with your point despite feeling profoundly stoned trying to grok your shitty milk cow metaphor.

Oh come on, I thought the metaphor was pretty good.

Not a shitty shitty milk metaphor. A shitty milk metaphor.

So what you are saying is Pao shits the milk? I like this analogy.

That's actually a pretty good metaphor.

    I only drink malk anyway.

I'm a sort of silent non content producing part of the larger "non vocal" majority. I care. I am sad. This event has underlined to me a shift in reddit that I find a bit alarming. What am I doing about it? Voting quietly with my feet and sourcing out which alt site I find fits me. This is the info that won't find it's way into the times.

Would a way to test how important the vocal monitory is to have a boycott of reddit gold gifting or purchasing? Would that have an affect on corporate's opinion?

I remember reading the statistic 90% of the reddit community does not make an account and 90% of the people who make accounts do not vote.

That being said, the people who make the content ARE THE FUCKING VOCAL MINORITY

A lot of the content is from random people who run into a celebrity, own a cat, made something cool, came up with a funny one-liner, or are regurgitating other people's content. I'd wager a lot of those people never have any meaningful interactions with mods or admins and aren't terribly invested in that whole debacle.

Also, bro, creating metaphors isn't your strong-point.

That is the best analogy ever.

    That's a very...interesting, yet accurate metaphor.

The vocal minority also happen to be the mods.
