To be honest this would be a lot easier to swallow if anyone on staff at r/pics posted that they were still indeed in control and that the post about admin staff taking over was false and then discuss the reason they had for no longer participating in the strike. Probably nobody will read this and I can't verify myself but I definitely clicked into an archive where the mod who opened /r/pics explained what had happened.

The jist was this: Other mods wanted to go 24 hours. I only want to go private until admin addressed us. They did that so I opened the sub.

Then in a later message he wrote how he couldn't go back and things turned out shit (or whatever, I'm going from memory because I can no longer find it). At the time I didn't think anything of it, but it does sound kind of a lot like he lost his privileges over the sub, once it was opened up.
