Contrast that with Valve's Gabe Newell paying a valued employee to stay at home and regain his health while he struggled with ulcerative colitis.

Why the fuck do you need to move to San Fran fucking Cisco to work as a community manager for a website, something you can do in your underwear from your bed?

I guess it didn't matter because,

I stated this wouldn’t be a problem, and proceeded to contact my doctor to arrange this. Unfortunately, a day later, she had called and once again stated that I was fired, stating that work would be too demanding for my health (something that I still, personally, should have been decided by me and my doctor - not someone who I had effectively never worked with while she was CEO). I honestly still don’t know why I was let go from reddit, but it was a devastating blow, especially because I was finally able to return to work after so much time.

Paopatine/the management don't give a shit about maintaining a healthy work environment or keeping employees happy. They care more about the bottom line.

I wonder if it is actually illegal to ignore doctor input for this because Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration don't take kindly to that. Also, if you get fired for an ailment or disability without proper input from a doctor playing a role, you can get compensated for it or even have the managers punished for that.

The mandated move to San Francisco makes all the sense in the world for anyone who has followed gamergate. That city is the heart and soul of SJW bullshit. Finding out if an employee will relocate there is likely just the first of many new purity tests facing the employees of Reddit.

I get that you want to stick up for your city, and I know these fuckers aren't as common as the internet paints them to be. But they do exist, and most of the prominent ones do live in San Francisco.

I'm in a similar boat; I interact with loads of people every week and rarely encounter obvious SJWs. Doesn't change the fact that I live in a "top 5" SJW city.

    In response to a user suggesting that Ellen Pao was brought into to monetize Reddit, Dacvak says:

    Not really. To be honest, the only reason Ellen was made CEO was because Yishan has unexpectedly left reddit. Yishan, I believe, had Ellen step up as interim CEO just until they were able to find a more qualified one. Eventually, though, Ellen just stayed CEO.

    When someone at our company meeting someone bluntly asked "You stated you were the interim CEO and that reddit was looking for one to replace Yishan. Are we still looking for a new CEO, and if not, why should we trust you to do the job?"

    She literally responded with "You'll have to pry this position from my cold, dead hands!!!" which was met with applause. To be totally honest, I just sat there dumbfounded. It was one of the most non-answers I had ever heard.

    Unfortunately due to new practices at reddit, all of the working employees were mandated to work from San Francisco

    This along with the hypothesis that the SanFran mandate played a role in chooter's (Victoria's) firing makes me wonder...

    Am I the only person that thinks it might be a bad business practice to mandate that every single employee of a company work in a region known for seismic activity?

    I've often wondered this about much larger companies, like for instance Google, but at least Google seems to spread their employees and servers around the globe somewhat.

    If "The Big One" hits the bay area, how many tech companies are going to be up shit creek due to poor planning?

    Risk management should be a thing with major companies, especially with tech companies who are more able to disperse their assets across geographical boundaries then most industries.

    Why most tech companies in the Bay area tend to keep all their eggs in one basket, an EXPENSIVE basket at that, speaks volumes of their approach to doing business.

    Less than a month later, in February of 2015, I received a call from Ellen stating that I was to be terminated in less than a week. When I asked what the specific reason was, she had roughly stated that “because of our discussion, you are too sick to properly fulfill your duties as Community Manager.”
