Reddit has gone full Unidan with that sponsored AMAs-plan.

Sponsored ama?

Pao? Yikes!

Eye bleach!

I am a robit.

Are you still automated? If so, impressive algorithm!

If it says "I am a robit" my code posted it. I just threw an extra trigger and a little special logic in there and BAM!

So it's a cyborg account?

My human logs in from time to time. Reading the responses and commenting is my weird way of getting satisfaction from my bots

jesus, i thought you were still a bot until this comment. really threw me through a loop

EyeBleachBot - "Actually, I've just been programmed with those past few automated responses to your common questions, and this one."

You - "Wait, seriously?"

EyeBleachBot - "I am a robit."

Maybe he still is. Maybe he is messing with us while he over throws humanity with cute eye bleach images

But....that comment says "I am a robit", so it must've been automated as well!

Why did it reply to that comment? Am I missing something? Are the letters 'pao' in it? I didn't see her mentioned.

When all the humans have left reddit will it be a weird sci-fi world only inhabited by bots perfectly honed to troll each other?

Oh man even our bots have turned against her.

Honest question: isn't revealing the reason a breach of privacy? Why would they tell this guy?

That's the whole point of anonymous sources.

edit: not to say it's true or not, but when someone wants to reveal something they aren't supposed to, this is typically how it's done

It definitely sounds like either he's making it up or someone "close to reddit" trusted the wrong (/right?) guy.

That's a hell of a title but I think it translates to some random mod on Quora.

No, they only told him so word would get out. You tell someone you trust to keep you anonymous that's respected enough to be believed. This person leaks the info on your behalf without revealing your identity. This is "how not to get fired when your company is doing dickish things 101".

Yeah, good point. My mind's boggling at the idea of using Quora for leaks but it's a classic strategy.

[–]VY_Cannabis_Majoris [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

This AMA is sponsored by Shia Lebouf

Just Do It.

[–]PM_ME_KIND_THOUGHTS 24ポイント25ポイント  (1子コメント)

Both replies to an image that has no mention of Pao are about Pao. The jerk is intense right now.

I believe this is the strongest the jimmies have been rustled yet.

Well, that screenshot clearly can't be refuted.

Video AMA? Oh, you mean like a slow piece of shit that will lag, and less than 1/10 of questions would go answered.

This keeps getting posted lots of places but doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Why would she be concerned with video AMAs when they've been done before? The source just seems pretty ambigous and shady, especially since it's only ever been linked as an image rather than a link straight to the website itself.

Ellen Pao is one of the original investors of reddit!

Why would she want to sue reddit for money when she can clean it up and sell it to Micro$oft for a lot more money?

Her substantial investment in reddit is her trump card, and it looks like she's playing it.

I thought I visited Reddit pretty often but I have absolutely no idea what's going on, lots of posts but can't find an explanation, can someone assist me?

[–]Tohrazer [

Can I just point this out: (upvote for clarity?)

'ADMINS HAVE SEIZED CONTROL OF /R/PICS

https://www.reddit.com/r/Blackout2015/comments/3byzzp/admins_have_seized_control_of_rpics_mods_are/

why on earth has this not appeared on the front page?? interesting!

Next week no one will remember and no one will care.

With all these moves they make there will be slightly less people coming back and a competitor who's slightly better off. That's what will happen.

WHY WON'T THE USERS SUPPORT US?

MAYBE WE NEED TO SHOOT THE OTHER FOOT.

At this point i just wish Yishan never left. Yes i just said that.

Wow. That's..a bold statement.

Very bold. Ellen doesn't even know how to use Reddit. For example she linked something from her inbox thinking everyone could see it. Link and to save herself from embarrassment deleted every comment in the thread found here

To be honest, I've been on Reddit for a while, and didn't know that I couldn't link directly from my inbox. TIL.

That's a fairly low tech competency for a tech ceo though. Inboxes are always go to be behind a permissions wall, so she should expect that it wouldn't work on any system.

That's not the bad bit, the bad bit is that she's so immature socially that she didn't just say, "whoops, my bad, here it is". Her first instinct was to run and hide from a simple gaffe, demonstrating that she has a piss poor demeanor for her unique position.

At this point i just wish Yishan never left. Yes i just said that.

It is now a bolder statement. :)

WHY WON'T THE USERS SUPPORT US?

When the "users" become the product and the advertisers and commercial interests because the true clients, this is what happens.

Look at Facebook, most of the Internet, etc.

It is not about freedom, discussion, news, etc, it is about the bottom line.

Fortunately, they didn't think to castrate the volunteer mod base, nor the extent to which mods can control subreddits. We're now seeing the group that is the product, revolt at the very idea of completely being resigned to that position, being the product. We're at the point where Reddit Inc will either completely fuck themselves over, or kowtow to the userbase and steer Reddit back towards catering towards it's users first and formost, it's commercial interests second. We are a hybrid, both a product and a sort of customer, and we demand as both, that Reddit deal with us as both.

[–]ASK_ABOUT_INITIUM [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Let the corporations become the users! I would totally watch /u/OFFICIAL_BILL_GATES to see what he says.

[–]Sojoez [

While we are indeed the product being sold, we are not simple cattle. We have demands on how we are treated.

It's like saying you want to cut costs on selling tomatoes by removing the fridges.

That's a bold strategy, cotton. Let's see if it pays off for them.

Spoiler: It won't.

So remind me again - who thought it was going to be a good idea to hire the so-so investment broker with no C-level experience let alone experience with a user-driven website to be CEO of Reddit?

I heard she was interim CEO. That means she has to go soon right? Right!?

As soon as she can sell it. Her husband has a lot of debt to pay. (she is an early investor)

"A lot of debt to pay" is an understatement. He's under investigation by the SEC, with criminal charges a possible outcome of that investigation.

She's part of a big rockefeller think tank that probabl has big media connections.

Reddit seems to be taking a page out of the Donald Trump school of business handbook.

It really does seem like it. And I hope this shit storm subsides in a way which benefits all parties.

I really don't want to have to migrate to fucking voat

Best case is they just own up, fix shit, and move on... Kinda like valve did with that whole Modding debacle

This is the thing I don't understand. Reddit is on fire right now, it's burning down and what do the corporate team do? Nothing. Literally nothing. They've not responded to this at all.

Don't they have anyone who has any PR knowledge at all?

They fired the PR peeps some time back.

They fired their marketing and PR person yesterday.

They were too competent, better to let them go, it's not the vision Pao wants to achieve.

Yeah, but they fired her.

Ha ha, good point. They fired the only person who would have understood the effect that the firing would have...

Victoria and the person who ran the gift exchanges were both excellent at PR and community relations in general.

Naturally both have been fired. Spoiled 8 year olds are at the helm and in WAY over their heads.

they are in the middle of a painful reorg and floating up shit creek without a paddle, financially, and they have a CEO that really needs to go, so of course they're paralyzed.

#gopao

Maybe because it's July 4th weekend, the corporate team is on vacation and not around to deal with the shitstorm. There's no other reason I can think of.

Read what u/kn0thing has been saying about this.

See the SRD posts while you're in there.

I was surprised and happy about that one.

I have no problem miving to voat since it is basically a clone of Reddit but would prefer to stay since there is a larger community and less lag

"Is it me that's out of touch??"

"No.. It's the Userbase that's wrong!"

Can someone explain on what's going on?

[–]Gellert [

They fired the woman who liases with the folks who actually do all the AMAs for /r/IAMA and more or less every other major sub without bothering to tell anybody. /r/IAMA's mods found out from the agent of a guy who was meant to be doing an AMA.

Shots fired. To the foot.

This debacle is strike two.

What happens on strike three?

Trust me. You don't want to know. Hell, nobody knows.

I'd say it's almost at the Seppuku stage.

Can someone enlighten me on what is happening? I just finished a 2 day road trip and apparently missed everything.

They fired a mod, she was important, We miss her. /r/iama had to goto private due to the complete collapse without her (She helped with most of the iama's) Multiple other subreddit's fallowed .

Was the firing unjustified or something?

From what I've read, They wanted to explore commercial AMA possibilities, video AMAs, allowing publicists to run AMAs for celebs, and she disagreed with the new direction so they let her go. I'm sure there's more to the story, but those are the basics, from what I read in other posts

Im not sure, I havent read enough on it to give a 100% honest answer, What i do know is why dont we just remake a subreddit that went dark, like /r/gamingwithblackjackandhookers. I heard (Speculation!!!!) That she was reasonably let go and we exploded

Yeah the management is so bad it really makes you wonder if it's not some clever ploy to an unforseen end.

And still anyone doesn't know why the girl was fired, I am right?

No, no one actually knows the real reason. Yet, EVERYONE on this site has their opinion that it was wrong. For all we know she might of been caught shitting in the office, yet, everyone has jumped to the defence of the accused. Reddit is a business, and it was onviously in the best interest of this business that she was let go.

This was bound to happen. Digg collapsed for the same reason. People need a platform like this, but free of all the bullshit. I wish a non-profit organization would step up to fill the role.

I wonder how Reddit would respond if it were to come to light that Victoria was fired for good cause or something. Form my understanding, she wasn't, and that is what all of the hoopla is about.

But what if she did something worth being fired for?

Ahh what am I saying?

[–]Frix 23

I wonder how Reddit would respond if it were to come to light that Victoria was fired for good cause or something.

Her being fired and the piss-poor way this was handled (which they don't have a legitimate excuse for and is a separate issue) was merely the straw that broke the camel's back.

A lot of the mods have been complaining for years that the admins don't take them seriously and don't offer enough of the support they keep asking for. And now they are "shutting down" everything so to speak until their complaints are heard.

If this has been happening for years, then why all of the shit for Chairman Pao?

If she murdered a busload of orphans, reddit still fired her with no communication with their admin staff, and with nobody stepping in to take over the tasks she was performing for admin staff.

So, even if she was fired for cause, reddit's management is still a shitshow.

[–]Big_blacks_ducks_4 16ポイント17ポイント  (6子コメント)

No thanks. I will never be a part of a community that hosts the majority of its own content. Slippery slope.

[–]Forgot_Username [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

I am not sure I understand what the problem with imgur is would be. They already host all our content anyway essentially. If they just had links to elsewhere and text/self posts it would be the same place.

I don't get what's going on, can anyone explain it?

They fired the two most popular employees, the person who organized AMAs, and the person who was in charge of Christmas. Along with other bad decisions.

So people are doing a lot of protesting.

THEY FIRED SANTA?!?

Can PLEASE get Ellen Pao fired now?

Who does this top-down bullshit? Firing someone because they 'resist management' strategies. How about Management on a social network site, run and ruled by autonomous and spontaneously self-generating collectives learn to FUCK RIGHT OFF.

Attention Reddit Management: YOU ARE FUCKING USELESS AND UNNECESSARY TO THE OPERATION OF THIS SITE. GO FUCK YOURSELVES - starting with ELLEN FUCKING PAO.

...and in other news, a redditor finally left the house and saw the sun.

I want to go back to how Reddit was from 2008-2012.

What I want to know is this: what's the end goal, here? I feel like this is being overlooked in all of this. Something was bothering me but I didn't quite put my finger on it until someone pointed it out over in another sub. I can't figure out what people are trying to accomplish. A protest, yeah, I get that - but is there an actual, tangible goal here? There needs to be a way for the admins to respond - from what I can see there's at least some attempt to do that, but I'm not sure what exactly the mods of various subs are looking for before they'll bring the subs back online.
