What is redditgifts?

/r/secretsanta and redditgifts were started in 2009 to provide a secret santa for the reddit community. We have since expanded to many gift exchanges. Watch this TEDx video to see the history and hear about the future of redditgifts

Rules

Posts which include the following will be removed to the mods discretion:
  1. Posted by throwaway accounts, as we cannot investigate the issue at hand.
  2. Questions answered in the FAQ or that can only be handled by support.
  3. Complaints about gifts, Santas, or giftees. This should go through official channels rather than public shaming.
  4. Asking for one-on-one exchanges in place of missed signups, or a not received or late gift. It causes unnecessary headaches for the admins.
  5. "Gift spoilers." Let your giftee see their gift for the first time when open the box, not on /r/SecretSanta.
  6. "Dear Santa ..." if you have something to say to your Santa, that's what your likes and dislikes are for.

Self promotion

Despite the closure of the marketplace, we continue to disallow self-promotion in /r/SecretSanta.

Hello friends,
I was not planning on saying anything but the hoopla on reddit today drove a number of people to question me and why I am no longer a mod of this subreddit I created.
I no longer work for reddit and as a result, am no longer a part of redditgifts.
Thank you for the last 6 years. It has meant the world to me. The community is the best ever and the employees of reddit and redditgifts are all amazing and I love them like family.

As a participant of Reddit Gifts on numerous occasions, I will not be partaking in any more. Your development of Reddit gifts made this fun, and after your departure (I wonder for what?) And Reddits recent behaviour, this will be a community I step away from.

I still remember you for your fast replies to my clueless questions when I started on my first exchange. That enthusiasm. That passion. That sincerity.
TBH, i feel that Redditgifts now looks like it's a store hawking merchandise. As someone who only comes by here once in a while, I can tell you that it's now very different with all the new policies on Reddit these past months. Take comfort in the fact you're not along in sharing the loss of something you have contributed to in such a big way.
