                          This is what I ALWAYS understood NSFL to mean. Since I first saw it in early 2000s. Not until recently did someone explain it is "not safe for life"

                          Back in the early 2000's you'd be right. It did mean Not Safe For Lunch. Since then NSFL is usually only said when referring to someone who got really fucked up (like their leg blown up from a tire). Kinda like how some people think of NSFW as something with clear nudity or serious gore. But it's really just something you wouldn't want your boss/coworkers to catch you lookin at.

We used to do a sushi challenge at a place I worked and it consisted of 10 futo-maki, which were sliced into 50 total pieces, which we would stack like a volcano, then run sriracha down the sides like lava. No one ever came close, and our customer base was 75% military.

                                                    As a sushi chef, the first thing that comes to my mind is "damn, that shouldn't be sitting out at room temperature", which is quickly followed by "it probably took half an hour just to assemble" which is then quickly followed by "I wouldn't eat any of that". Sushi should be eaten immediately, not left out like that. I'm sure if anyone gets the sh*ts, the blame will be on the sushi chef. It does look pretty though, colorful and vaggish as it is.

                                                    Seeing this much sushi together is just unappetizing. It makes it seem like cheap, bulk-made sushi that will get you sick. I think one of my favorite things about sushi is how small portions generally are, it makes you savor every bite.

Any self respecting chef would keep the main bulk of the platter in a walk in refrigerator and slowly add to it. You really thought they would just let hundreds of pieces of raw fish reach room temperature and sit out while the rest is being made, christ.

                                                        I've never had sushi from a party platter that wasn't gross.

                                                        Sushi is supposed to be about simplicity, freshness, and the appreciation of single high-quality ingredients. Stuffing a bunch of hastily made sushi onto a party platter pretty much defeats the purpose. There's lot of food that is much better suited to large social gatherings.
