Vriska/(Vriska) concoct a grand scheme to create the greatest evil (that she knows of), then defeat it to become the greatest hero, unaware that the creation of that villain and her subsequent failure to vanquish it are already preordained.

(Vriska) dies of her hubris, while Vriska is corrected by (essentially) a miracle. Ironically, the former's punishment leads to immense suffering for all, but also Vriska's salvation, with the latter actually leading to victory.

(Vriska) meets Meenah. They become rivals, then friends, out of mutual respect for each others' bravado and ruthlessness in pursuit of their respective goals. They work together on an insane scheme to stay relevant.

Meenah's genuine self-confidence, without a need to "prove herself" or make herself the center of attention, inspires (Vriska) to overcome her egomania. (Vriska) opens up to Meenah, having finally found someone that she trusts and respects enough to show any vulnerability. They decide together to abandon their crazy scheme.

No longer supported by delusions of grandeur, (Vriska)'s ego is too fragile to stand on its own, much less when assaulted with memories of the past in an infinite, meaningless nether-realm; she becomes dependent on Meenah. She masks this fear and dependence with forced enthusiasm for enjoying and exploring the afterlife with Meenah.

Meenah starts becoming disillusioned with (Vriska), both by her seeming enjoyment of shirking all relevance, and by her openness and vulnerability--both traits that were inspired by her own strength and support. Meenah becomes afraid that her "bad" nature will inevitably lead her to hurt the now-vulnerable (Vriska).

Vriska appears, every bit as heartless and vainglorious as the day Meenah met (Vriska), metaphorically shits all over (Vriska) for what she's become, and asks Meenah to join her on a ridiculous quest to defeat the ultimate evil. Meenah obliges, breaking up with (Vriska).

If this isn't the most tragic arc in this story yet, I don't know what is. Worst yet, there's basically no way that this still doesn't end up being a complete, unmitigated disaster when they finally do confront Lord English.

That was a strong update. Prior to the gigapause when the flowers of Meenah and Vriska were just starting to bloom I was pretty on board with the ship, but as it went on and you saw how Vriska was changing herself for Meenah rather than for herself I wasn't so sure, so having some alone time might be good for (Vriska) to figure everything out. The final page was pretty powerful too, I just kind of hope the split here is permanent though since it seems to present a lot of room for both of the characters to grow and delve in to their understandings of self.

Or everything will just get fucked up. Who can really say?

You know what? I'm not even mad about Meenah breaking up. Sure, it's awful In every regard, but she wanted to go their separate ways. Even if they did stay together, it would eventually break apart and crash from the strain and (sadly) the change in (Vriska) since the original crush. What did make me mad was that smirk. That. Fucking. Smirk. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH FUCK!
