Introducing Nihilcurrency

Sand Hill Exchange is pleased to introduce ӾCoin (IPA /kaɪ kɔɪn/), the world’s first nihilcurrency – a completely valueless currency.

About ӾCoin 

It’s very simple – the ӾCoin always was and always will be worth 0.  ӾCoin is only available for use at Sand Hill Exchange.  

We are minting 21 million ӾCoin, worth a grand total of 0.  One quarter (Ӿ5.25M) are earmarked for circulation as rewards for Sand Hill Exchange users.  As of this blog post there are currently Ӿ18,942 (0.36%) in circulation.

These are the only ways to earn ӾCoin:

  • Users receive Ӿ20 upon joining Sand Hill Exchange.
  • Users may short sell startups to earn Ӿ
  • Users may earn Ӿ by leaving comments on companies.
  • When you hold a position on any startup that exits, you will receive Ӿ1 for every $1B of realized valuation (as determined by Sand Hill Exchange).

The remaining three quarters (Ӿ15.75M) are held in reserve by SHX, stored in offline cold storage for security.  We will soon publicize circulation stats in realtime.

About Nihilcurrencies

Cryptocurrencies have taken the world by storm for the last several years.  We’re eager for the ascent of nihilcurrencies.  The advantages of nihilcurrencies are numerous:

  • Unlike crypto, nihilcurrencies have no volatility risk
  • Unlike fiat, nihilcurrencies have no risk of inflation
  • Unlike crypto or fiat, nihilcurrencies would be persist in value during a zombie apocalypse.

Unlike cryptocurrencies, ӾCoin is centralized.  We believe decentralized nihilcurrencies are theoretically possible, but the mechanics for doing so are left as an exercise for the reader.

Sand Hill Exchange invented the nihilcurrency out of necessity.  Trading on Sand Hill Exchange is very fun.  But if ӾCoin attained even the nominal value of a mere Satoshi, Iranian rial, or Farmville dollar, our exchange would quickly become among the biggest threats facing financial regulators.

For this reason, if we ever learn of anybody trying to trade an ӾCoin for anything of value, we’ll kick their ass, and we ask you to do the same.  Keep nihilcurrencies free!
