Wasn't this debate started years ago? And they've only now resolved it?

[–]judge_ticklefeather 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

It's been litigated under Federal law (U.S. Constitution) and other state law, but this is the first time IIRC it has been decided under Oklahoma state law (OK Const.). The OK Constitution differs slightly from the Federal in its separation of church and state clauses so a new or inconsistent decision is possible.

Hahahaha, you think it's resolved? This'll go on forever.

Unfortunately, this means no statue for the Satanic Church either. The design looked kinda cool.

Can't they put that on the texas state capitol grounds? There's still a ten commandments monument there. It needs a giant Baphomet statue to complement it.

Non Christian Texans should sue Texas for religious discrimination. Maybe a class action suit. If people don't speak up and fight for their rights, they'll continued to be trampled on.

Texas is clearly saying that Texas is a Christian state and prefers Christianity.

You do make a good point, but I'm sure there are Christians who would like to help with that suit too.

yeah seems ok to me if it's all or none, but you can't pick just one

I wanted that statue on the capitol grounds sooooo badly. It's awesome!

Gotta love the Satanic church.

That was probably SC:s goal anyway.

That is pure awesome!

I'm Christian and it sounds reasonable; church and state should be separate

Agnostic here. Why does it bother people?

because some people insist on their religion being displayed in state property, I assume

It's seen as government endorsement of a particular religion. I'm cool with it as long as they allow any other religious group to also put up a monument.

There was a group planning to put up a Satanist statue to 'counter' the Ten Commandments, which I found kinda funny.

I agree with you, though. Anyone else should be allowed to put up what they want.

For that reason I love the Satanic Temple. They go around and instead of bitching about Christians they simply ask for equal treatment for their own religion. The result is people taking down all religious trappings out of anger at Satanists.

Because it can be seen as the state endorsing one religion over another.

They're not supposed to do that

There are folks that believe their religion should be shown preference. They are the types that want ten commandment monuments on public grounds, want the depiction of their prophet to be considered hate speech... They're the kind of cunts that think their nonsense rules need to be enforced upon others. By showing favour to one in particular, society is giving the nod to one cunt group over the others. That isn't fair to the other cunts.

Also a Christian and of course they should be.

Nihilist here ..........

No need to sound so depressed about it.

This sounds like a really expensive divorce but worth it in the end...

Im rather impressed you agree. I find so many Christians that are so disagreeable and unable to hypocrisy. Thank you.

so what about the dollar bill?

that should be changed to be less religious too

Another win for the country our Founding Fathers envisioned.

The current state of affairs is nothing like what was envisioned back then. Some would have been for it, some against it.

Its almost like our Founding Fathers were a hivemind!

Or that their opinions matter to a country 300 years later. What was it Jefferson said? About being ruled by dead men from the grave?

Stand by for a bumper crop of hillbilly butt hurt. Maybe they'll have a ten commandments parade.

I think this is a good thing. No religious symbols should be associated with government offices. I'd like to see "In God We Trust" gone from the money as well.

Im curious as to how the statue managed to get put there in the first place. Defies "separation of church and state" on such a basic level

the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday

You mean today?

That Temple of Satan Statue looks really badass though.

If the monument must come down because it violates the state's constitutional ban on using public property to benefit a religion, those Oklahomans who are not Christians should sue the state for past discrimination on religious grounds.

Since the state has for years been clearly saying, "We're Christians and we favor Christianity."

Pretty obvious constitutional law here, good decision. No need for that statue to be there

Who wanted the Ten Commandments removed? Would they rather people steal and murder.

No. The theft, sale, scrapping, burning, or removing of icons, flags, fossils, and monuments, is not acceptable!

It's a great way to erase history, but no.

I avoid people that fly flags that I disagree with, but that doesn't mean I want them decimated, and the flag or message removed. If the Confederate flag is removed from history, people might be persuaded to accept slavery, not knowing that people have been fighting for freedom.

From what I remember, the Commandments have some good advice for living. Many of the looted icons in the Middle East, might have had insight that could benefit the human race in future years.

Rapid extinction is not wanted by most.

We still have countless copies of the 10 commandments.
