The patient, Le Trung Tuan, suffered from a very severe case of neurofibromatosis, which is essentially a tumor of the nerve tissue. He likely has Type 1 NF, and in this case the tumor is a very, very large tumor in his head. He was fortunate in that he had the tumor removed by Dr. McKay McKinnon, and it sounds like Le Trung was eligible for reconstructive surgery in 6-12 months after the initial surgery.           Unfortunately, he probably has shit vision. Most humans have about 120 degrees of overlapping vision. But that's with a "normal" spacing between the eyes.

          With something like this, there's going to be a blind spot closer to the face. Similar to how we can see our noses out of our peripheral vision, this guy won't be able to. He probably has a blind spot extending out maybe past the length of where the tumor had gone... maybe?

          Plus, that sort of pressure inside the skull no doubt influenced the orbital sockets and potentially created pressure on the eyeballs, distorting them just enough to create an astigmatism or other field-of-vision issues like focusing or sensitivity to light/dark because of rod and cone shaping.

          Would he be blind? Obviously not. Farsighted? Probably. Notice in the photos /u/triviaqueen posted, anything he's reading is pretty close to his face, perhaps right on the edge of the blind spot (if there is one, just a guess) and still legible.
