Small windturbines are good for generating mechanical energy, such as for pumping wells or running tools or thrashing grain. Without the wasted energy being spent turning mechanical energy into electricity and then turning it back into mechanical energy, they can be a very useful way to power things around the homestead.

Surface temperatures haven't warmed, but ocean temperatures have risen dramatically. I don't really know how much of an effect ocean temps have. Could this make a difference?

However, he did not say that rioters were in the wrong. On the contrary:

He understood that people fighting for civil rights are not always peaceful, and he accepted this. As he said in the speech you quoted, "Riots are easier just because they need no organization." He wanted the Poor People's Campaign to be non-violent, but at the end of the day he would never condemn them for being violent in the face of violence.

In the speech you quoted, King said he was making a shift from "reform" to "revolution", and wanted to use civil disobedience to "utilize the militancy wasted in riots to seize clothes or groceries many did not even want." He wanted people to shut down Washingon, disrupt all daily life and business, and even expropriate the expropriators! He didn't want people to simply do away with rioting - he wanted to channel this force into a socialist revolution.

As for his support of militant uprisings that you mention, that goes against much his writings insofar that I've read them, so it would interest me to read the source of any such statement. Do you have it on hand?

King was far more radical than his whitewashed portrayal in popular media, and hiding behind the deified icon of King to support passivism is the recourse of liberals. Let us not forget that King denounced the US government for cracking down on socialist revolutions instead of supporting them (Yes, King supported militant socialist uprisings). King sympathized with the Black Power movement and openly defended it by explaining that rioting is the language of the unheard; it is always the government's fault if its people riot because people only riot when they are silenced. He himself organized the Poor People's Campaign to descend upon Washington in an insurrectionist uprising to demand a bill of rights for the poor in America... right before they fucking murdered him.

Peaceful protests don't even have an audience, so your point is moot. The mainstream media reports on violent protests, because "if it bleeds, it leads!"

Furthermore, the only thing that removing freedoms of speech and assembly will do is accelerate the contradictions and raise people's awareness of the issues even further! The Streisand effect applies to the real world too, ya?

Look at what happened in Ferguson. Do you think there would have been a national discussion about a cop shooting an unarmed black man (a very regular occurrence in America) if the police hadn't cracked down on protesters and if the protesters hadn't resisted the police crack downs? Do you think the media would have even bothered reporting on the problems of police militarization or institutionalized racism or the military-to-police pipeline?

The way I see it, things like wool, eggs, or honey can be vegan but they can't be both vegan and profitable. In order to be profitable you need to cut costs, and cost cutting almost always comes down to abusing animals in these industries. If someone has sheep and they are allowed to roam freely and can grow to an old age and are allowed to socialize in a healthy manner and are treated kindly when being sheered and not coerced into compliance, it can be vegan. It would never be profitable to collect wool in this manner, though, so it just isn't done.

The CIA conducted experiments on people claiming that they were giving them vaccines. USAid uses medical aid as a smokescreen to try to instigate coups. The US and its many allies have been using foreign aid as a stage of political and economic operations since the Cold War, and because of this people stopped trusting Western medicine.

10% of the deaths are of healthcare workers. I'm sure you can imagine what can happen when the number of health providers drops by 2000 in a short period in countries hit by ebola. It won't be ebola killing people next year; it'll be pneumonia and malaria and infections and HIV.

I'm not Iranian, but I personally don't protest publicly because I'm afraid of being cracked down on. Rubber bullets and pepper spray fucking hurt, and fighting court battles is expensive. I admire the people that do, though, and try to help them however I can. Usually I donate to Food Not Bombs.

That's the basis of the law, yes. "Indecency" is always a social construct, and the people in power (and the people that listen to them) say that a woman showing the top of her head is the same as nudity.

By the way, "date" is irrelevant in this case as Iran actually used to ban hijabs. It's just misogynist.

I just gave it to you. Women should not be forced to wear hijab. Furthermore, I support women in Iran that resist Iranian policies about hijabs and support women everywhere who resist misogynist and oppressive laws and social conventions. My only intention was to point out the blatant hypocrisy that misogynists in the West have about Iran.

Do you think women should be forced to cover their chests?

Of course fucking not. That said, I think Iran's policies on the hijab are similar to American policies on "upper nudity" for women. It's nonsense invented by men to oppress women, and it sticks around because of dominant social conventions.
