To be fair, I believe it was originally a season finale

It was a Season Finale and they suddenly got the call that it was cancelled. They had to hurry up and try and pull some nonsense to make it more dramatic that it was ("OH NOOOES, RONAN IS DIED. ohwaitloljk) and threw in some dialogue/scene changes to make it seem more "final", like the "look how happy we all are to be in San Francisco while we completely ignore that we left an entire Galaxy to get pillaged entirely due to our fault" scene.

There is a question of just how many Wraith are left after their own internal conflicts, the starvation induced by the Asurans killing off Humans and the losses suffered at the hands of the Tau'ri.

I agree that it was cancelled prematurely. I would have love an extra season or three.

However, if you are looking for plot closure, check out the Stargate Atlantis: Legacy series of novels.

The mechanics of the writing are clunky and a bit of the dialogue is stilted but the over-arching plot elements are sound and interesting imho. Check them out; I believe there are 7 novels currently published with an eighth and final installation on the way.

Well, I needed some new books, might as well give these a shot.

I envisioned the Super-Hive as the Wraith's last ditch effort to take Earth out of the equation. The cloning facility that led to their victory over the Lanteans was destroyed when Sheppard and Team crashed a whole Hive Ship into it. With the loss of it and of the Super-Hive, defeating the Wraith becomes a simple mop up operation. Especially since Earth isn't tied up dealing with the Ori and a single Daedalus now has the offensive and defensive capabilities to go toe to toe with a Hive Ship.

Yeah between Wraith infighting, the war with the replicators, the damage that we had already done, and the starvation thing from being awoken too early the Wraith were pretty much already dead. They do still need to go back and finish the job but what's left will be pretty boring compared to what we had already seen. It's kind of like how they didn't give much screen time to the dealing with the last of Goa'uld.

Though there are still those aliens that Sheppard's team ran into in the alternate reality. They were supposed to be tied to the Vanir but that never got explored further.

I'd like another season... or five. Or at least a movie to deus that old machina and tie up loose ends.

They all ended too soon

I agree, but SyFy decided we needed Stargate:90210 more than Atlantis.

Universe had by far the most interesting universe and premise to me, with 15 seaons and 3 movies of background story to set up why, where and how the people came to be stranded on the ship the show started with so many storyarcs to follow and so much material to draw from. The tele-comunication stones for an example needed no explaining and tied together coms with home base nicely.

It really dawned on me how low they had sunk with the show when in the middle of a battle with the blue aliens the camera cuts to chloe and scott kissing and having a little lovers quarrel, with the sound of the battle still going on. That broke my heart a bit.

I think it tried too hard to be all dark and brooding BSG like. Should have stayed a little more light hearted like the others.

i hated the stones. Espicaly since most of their story arcs revolved around cheating or revealing the SG program to their family members.

I called it "Battlestargate Universe", personally

I prefer to call it "Battlestar Destiny"!

Battlestargate Voyager seemed the most fitting to me.

I always called it Battlegate Starlactica.

That's a bit wordy for me, I prefer to shorten it to Battlegate Voyager.

The difference being, Voyager was actually good. Sort of.

A few of the characters were compelling, at least.

I just couldn't give two shits about the Universe characters except, maybe Rush. But even him, I was like, "Meh, asshole. I'm glad he's dead."

The only character I did not literally hate in Voyager was the doctor because Robert Picardo.

The relationship between Holodoc and Titties McBorg was pretty great. I also found Janeway pretty good a lot of the time.

I'd happily press the button and send Chakotay and Kim floating out an airlock.

I just remember episode 200 of SG-1 when they made a joke about replacing all the mature, experienced senior staff with younger, edgier characters. That is how I feel about both Voyager and SGU.

I want to put an axe in the necks of Tom Paris and B'Elanna Torres. And Neelix makes me want to do the same to myself.

That scene in 200 is probably one of my favourite. "I don't think Mitchell likes me." "I'm pregnant."

Except, it was crap.

Like nuBSG and Voyager? :P

I couldn't watch the new BSG - I can't bear to tarnish a cherished childhood memory. And Voyager didn't get interesting until Seven of Nine appeared, ha ha!

BSG is well worth watching. I am the most cynical, nostalgia-driven guy around and it still kicked ass...

...until the end, where it got pants-on-head stupid. But along the way, there is some fantastic stuff.

I've seen some of it but there was too much religious mumbo jumbo in it for my taste. The aspect which I hate about some sci fi concepts/stories is where you have technologically advanced societies who are still deeply entrenched in religion.

From what I've seen though, the core of the reimagined BSG is sex and paranoia which is a long way away from the original filled with space battles. They didn't even have blasters FFS!

New BSG definitely includes sex, religion, and paranoia, can't deny that.

I'm not a religious guy and I would hope that at some point in the future when we're jumping between stars, there is no more religion... But I don't think it will be that way. People want to believe, it's in our DNA. There's going to be a dashboard Jesus between the stars centuries from now, I'm positive.

But back to the real point, while there was religion in the show, I didn't find it overbearing. The humans mumbled some prayers once in a while, and referred to their old gods but I didn't find it too much. It actually made me wonder about the history of the colonies, because the traditions were clearly very old. Of course, YMMV.

The Cylons also referred to their god, which was a different god, and I thought it was actually kind of interesting how a race that was created by another race would find religion. Why would a toaster want religion? Did they get it from us?

There are no blasters, but they made up for it with nukes! The space battles in new BSG are epic, near a high water mark in all of SF. And there are a LOT of them! Before long the Galactica takes on real character herself, in a way she NEVER did in the old show.

And even with just handguns, the ground battles were a lot of fun. I didn't miss mah lazars, not a bit.

It's funny that I find myself staunchly defending a show that stabbed me in the back like no other... the end of BSG is the greatest betrayal in all of fiction. But when BSG is good, it's really good.

No show is right for everyone, but I hope that someday you can find a little entertainment in new BSG.

My problem with it is this: I like my BSG like I like my Stargate: a space opera, not a soap opera. It was also, as you touched on, one of those post 9/11 "gritty" and "topical" shows about terrible people doing terrible things for terrible reasons, and we're expected to root for one group of evil asshats over another not because they're actually better than the other side, but because in this ham fisted political commentary, the writers have decided they're the US, and the other side is al qaeda, as if that doesn't make the whole thing even more distasteful. If I wanted that, I'd turn on the news.

So mad..... I loved it.

The thought that SGA was cancelled to make way for SGA turns my stomach.

But by your logic, they must have cancelled it because it was bad. SGA must have been terrible. Or perhaps it was a victim of shitty execs trying to make more money? Naaa, must have been a bad show.

[–]Stalia 2

I like to think that Todd's plan to convert all the Wraith to non-feeding Wraith was a massive success and they no longer had a reason to prey on the humans of the galaxy.

I think it boiled down to viewership. I watched it first run on The Movie Network in Canada (which is a pay to watch service similar to HBO) and I don't know how it aired in other countries. When I watched it I didn't know anyone else who did - if it had been a regular network show it probably would have had better PR. I'm about to start the books mentioned below. I've heard that SGA #16 (Book 1 of the Legacy Series) is the first one after the show ended.

Welcome to our pain.

They wrote books that extend the series

Try reading the Atlantis Legacy series. It acts as a season 5 and wraps up a lot of stuff. The first book is called Atlantis Legacy: homecoming.

I got soooooo Tired of the whole Michael stealing Tila's baby thing. If they had done something different I bet it would have lasted longer. More exploring finding more new worlds. The good stuff. How dumb were they not to take zpm's like the wraith did from the replicators. Ughhh.
