Lakeview/Boystown Alderman Tunney was working the gutters of my street with a shovel, solo this morning. Respect earned! (i.imgur.com)

Damn, there's some hate on here. I'd respect a neighbor who shoveled the gutters, so why not an alderman?
OP seems to have triggered the internet's shit-all-over-everything reflex.

Everything is black and white. He is either a complete scumbag or an angel. You can't be some mixture of both.....even though all of us are.
He's a jackass. Liked him when he started but he turned into another cheating Alderman.

C'mon alderman...at least take the loafers off and puts some workboots on if you are going to claim to be "working the gutters"
My dogs starting licking my face, begging to be taken downstairs for their morning wizz. I saw a guy in the distance working his way through the gutter towards our place ... the noise of his shovel in the gutter was pretty noticeable. I heard the scrapping from the 3rd floor prior to coming down. As he got closer, I realized who it was, and although I've had beef with him in the past, this pretty much settled the score.

I think he was being maybe a bit sarcastic. Its only Monday OP. Chill out and lets grab a cold one later.

You're way too serious.
Please, that's nothing but a photo op, he's a scumbag
I don't know the guy, but he's cleaning my gutters. Whatever you wanna call it, Mama ... but he didn't asked for a photo, although he did smile big when I told him I was going to take one.
I'm not saying he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but the guy is out there busting a$$ to get things back in order and I personally appreciate it.

really? This earned your respect?
My neighbors and I have been doing this for the last ten years with shovels and everything. There's a lady on the next block who does this and she's at least eighty years-old.
He's doing what a considerate and responsible member of the community should do with the grates are covered in debris.
He's walking each and every block in the entire neighborhood, scrapping the gutters prior to the street cleaners coming through. If you weren't aware, Pride was yesterday and my neighborhood is destroyed.
Do you walk up and down the streets of your entire neighborhood cleaning up after everyone else? I doubt it.
And yes, this did earn my respect. It's not often you'll see a pencil pushing politician out in the grime, early in the morning, trying to help people move their cars so they aren't towed by street cleaning crews ... scrapping the gutters to make sure their constituents yards don't flood from clogged drains.
Why does everyone have to be so negative and suspicious here? I was posting what I personally found to be something positive.
Maybe you should see the goodness in something for once.
Te aprecio. Muchas Gracias Tunney.

If he really was a good guy, he'd side with the residents who are FED-THE-FUCK-UP with the bullshit that goes along with this event, and move it downtown where it belongs.
I was scared. SCARED. Last night to take my dog out for a walk. Is that okay? I don't fucking think so.
There were dozens of black kids and transexuals (for the record, I'm have nothing against blacks or gays or anything, except when they or anyone are being dicks) shouting, openly smoking pot, drinking, breaking bottles and generally being drunk/high assholes. I was approached multiple times by these people before I scurried back into my house.
Is that okay?
that's a people problem, not an alderman problem. i don't think an alderman has the power to stop these activities the day/night of the pride parade.
it is a people problem. I completely agree. However, the alderman has a responsibility to his constituents to make sure things like this are handled properly.
The CPD was back on their heels all night. A cop that I spoke to earlier in the evening said, "its time to leave town for the weekend, this thing is out of control"
Seriously?
so i'm confused what the alderman has to do with CPD. sounds like the CPD was under-prepared for yesterday's events. this thing has been going on for decades now. maybe it is time for CPD to reevaluate how it prepares for the pride parade.
other than that, welcome to chicago. there are a few events throughout the year where the city is overwhelmed. there are certain neighborhoods you can live in to avoid pretty much all of it.
also, why would i cop tell you to leave town for the weekend on a sunday?
You sound like you aren't cut out for this neighborhood. Maybe not even the city.
The Parade has been here for 46 years. Maybe you should reconsider where you live.

There were dozens of black kids and transexuals
Why even mention that? what does that have to do with anything? people of all backgrounds were getting rowdy last night.
Move to the suburbs already you piece of shit.
Why? Because that is what factually happened. Why not? Why should I sanitize or leave it ambiguous? Serious question.
Why does it matter is the bigger question? there were plenty of white folks everywhere acting crazy, but you just noticed the black and trans ones because they're different than you. As someone who was there all night-- acting white and crazy-- you'd do well not to make the event seem like it was full of "others". seriously, this has been in the neighborhood way longer than you have Brad. Get out or shut up, those are your two options.

Nah... thats really not ok when you specifically call out 2 groups of people when they were the vast minority of the group and probably the groups ('black kids and transexuals') causing the least amount of trouble according to the police log over here
I think the guy that probably cause the biggest problem was the old white guy that drove his car through the parade Maybe the color is off on my laptop - but he looks like an old white guy to me... DRIVING HIS CAR THE WRONG WAY THROUGH A PARADE

I'm not calling anyone out. I'm DESCRIBING what was happening on my street. There is a difference. Do try to pay attention.
Seriously man move to the burbs, it's nice and quiet there.
I think the upvotes and downvotes in this thread really tell the story here on your comments and feelings... But if you want some additional info on what calling out means you can look no further than:
"8. To cause to come to the mind or to attention" "9. To name"
"8. To cause to come to the mind or to attention"
"9. To name"
Which you have done with the blacks, transexuals (sic), and gays
I have provided several links that describe in detail (from facts taken from the police scanner - of which I listened to for probably a good 5 hours yesterday) - that describe what happened.

If you have to specify that you're not a homophobe or racist when you say something. Then you are a racist homophobe.

Protip: Those of us that work "in the grime" don't do it in shorts, a tshirt, and loafers (with white socks).
We generally aren't smiling and posing for pictures, either.
Sorry to break it to you, but he was. The Skeptic in you will make your life less pleasant.
I simply took my dogs out to go #1 and #2 and this guy was pushing junk through the streets for 10 minutes before anyone (me) even noticed him.
This was a pretty selfless act, but you can live in fear of positive moments if you like ... it's your own experience to ruin if you so choose.
