FYI: I'm straight(ish), white, and a guy.
I've been subbed to SRS, circlebroke, etc. for a long time. I support everyone's rights to do whatever the flying fuck you want as long as it doesn't hurt other people, and I'll fight to the death for that right even if I myself won't really be affected by it.
SRS has always been one of my favorite places for finding like-minded people and gazing at a museum of awful people.
But anyways, on to the point:
"Gross. Straight people are soooo fucked up." -packyouup, +48, in response to some assholes on default subs sexualizing a lesbian married couple.
So I completely agree that those people are misogynists, and are treating women like objects. But REALLY? ALL straight people are fucked up? Come on, don't respond to assholism with assholism. There's plenty of perfectly sane straight people in the universe, myself included. You really shouldn't make generalizations about an entire groups based on the actions of few - that's stereotyping. I got legitimately upset about this - I'm not a stereotype, I'm me. Don't just write off about 95% of the population, including many of the people on your subreddits.
So I responded with something along the lines of, "hey, I'm straight, and I'm not going around talking about my attraction to/sexualization of every woman ever. Calm down with the stereotypes, there's plenty of sane straight people here." That's comment's deleted now, because I was getting downvoted out.
Seriously. Calmez-vous, s'il-vous plait. Think before you call a lot of perfectly kind, sane, rational allies to your cause 'fucked up.'
