I font think you understand the definition of offensive. If something offends a conservative it's progressive, if something offends a liberal it's racist or sexist or any number of verb"ist" and needs to be stamped out

Seriously though, and the thing is people shouldn't even find the confederate flag offensive.

As far as I'm concerned they can find it offensive, but making it illegal from everywhere would be stupid.

Hate speech is still free speech and making it illegal only convinces people with bad opinions that they are being oppressed.

If you want to stop "hate speech" the way to do it is to win people over, not push them away.

And it's not the case, only from governmental buildings which seems fair. Same is true of "hate speech" while legal a government official could not get away from using such speech during their official duty.

...last I checked the LGBT community didn't endorse slavery, strip people of their human rights, or commit treason by making war against the United States. As a matter of fact, last I checked the lgbt community just got a win for less government interference in their lives and equal protection under the law, making our country less hypocritical. It is none of the government's business what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedroom, and if someone is offended by that, I submit that they are either obsessed with sex or not really in favor of smaller government. Just sayin'...

This was never the issue. The ruling wasn't about if people could be gay or not.

That depends on who you were talking to(edit: see all the anti-sodomy laws on the books). I could just as easily put it a different way: why should government limit the genders of people entering into a civil contract with each other?

In that sense, it is also none of the government's business what flag I fly, or what I support, or how anyone discriminates against anyone else. People are gonna be racist forever, banning a flag isn't gonna change a damn thing, especially since the flag has very little to do with racism. The Confederate flag is a symbol of Southern pride, and while it does represent treason and secession, the original American flag represents the exact same thing. People just need a damn history lesson.

You are free to wear a confederate flag jumpsuit. Nobody is banning it

But a government building flying a flag that symbolizes treason against America and slavery doesn't make sense.

Flying a flag in support of equality and love makes perfect sense.

Thank you. Get a tattoo on your forehead for all I care but it does not belong on U.S. Government buildings

Like the rainbow colors displayed on the Whitehouse? Or maybe the rainbow version of the official NYPD and NYFD logos on the official government websites? I'm sure there were other similar displays too. There's a clear double standard here.

[–]Carlos_Danger 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

What does that have to do with it?

One flag is a symbol of treason against the same government the state houses represent.

The rainbow flag isn't a symbol of treason and is in fact a harmless symbol of equality.

No double standard.

Yeah see, to me the confederate flag isn't offensive. To me it is an indicator of the fools who are celebrating a lost cause and trying to show support for something that hasn't been relevant for 150 years. While the rainbow flag is a relevant indicator of a fight for social equality. But yeah go ahead and complain. I revel in your anguish in something so trivial.

Enjoying other peoples suffering makes you a bad person.

See to me you are a typical liberal and what may or may not offend you doesn't matter the least to me.

[–]swmrh911 -2ポイント-1ポイント  (4子コメント)

I'm a liberal because I support gay marriage? That's a mighty fast assumption you have made.

[–]tallcady 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

You are liberal because you berate us with what's best for you.

[–]rafiislost -2ポイント-1ポイント  (1子コメント)

What if I told you that the Confederate Battle Flag was banned because that was the flag that was displayed being used to killed Americans, and that no American has been killed through the use of the rainbow flag.
