True detective

This isn't a popular opinion, but I thought the first season of True Detective was extremely disappointing. It started off with so much promise, and the first three episodes were really strong. But then it started to just nosedive. It got all action movie-ish and exaggerated, and the payoff of the Yellow King was just straight-up stupid. I was expecting the next The Wire, but somewhere around episode 4 or 5 I remember being like "oh, I didn't know we were just fucking around."

I enjoyed the show a bit longer than you but I did dislike the last few episodes.

I only kept watching mostly for the visuals.

Season 2 looks promising and I'm looking forward to watching Episode 1. Want to eee what they do with Vaugh and Farrell.

GoT is similar as well, in that the quality started to take a nosedive.

The quality of GOT has slipped since they had to go further and further off-book, but in my opinion it's not even close to the sudden drop-off that happened in True Detective. It's like the first and second halves of the season were written by completely different people. It started off well-written, subtle, and smart, and by the end they might as well have been like cliff diving and jumping motorcycles over explosions.

I mean it wasn't quite that bad but seriously I couldn't believe how lazy and bad the end of the season was.
