Reset web settings

To reset web settings in Internet Explorer 10.0 & 11.0 :

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Click the Tools menu (gear icon), and then click Internet options.

3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset under the Reset Internet Explorer settings.

4. Select Delete personal settings.

Note: Resetting Internet Explorer settings will reset all user-defined settings including those set by installed extensions, toolbars and other add-ons to IE defaults. This includes all Security, Privacy and Zone settings. Selecting Delete personal settings will also clear browsing history, delete all temporary Internet Files, cookies, form data and especially all stored passwords.

5. Click Reset.

6. Click Close.

Congrats! You’ve successfully reset your web settings in Internet Explorer.

To reset web settings in Internet Explorer 9.0:

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Click the Tools menu (gear icon), and then click Internet Options.

3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.

4. Click Reset again.

5. Click Close.

Congrats! You’ve successfully reset your web settings in Internet Explorer 9.0.

To reset the web settings in Internet Explorer 8.0:

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.

3. Click the Advanced tab.

4. Click Reset.

Note: Even after you've closed all your browser windows before attempting to reset your web settings, you may get a message asking you to close all browser windows.

This may happen if you have programs that are not visibly running on your computer. To resolve this issue, restart Windows, open Internet Explorer, and then try resetting your web settings.

5. If you'd like to reset homepages, search providers, and Accelerators to the default setting and delete temporary internet files, history, cookies, web form information, passwords, and InPrivate Filtering data, check the Delete personal settings box, and then click Reset.

6. On the Reset Internet Explorer Settings window, the categories that have been reset will have a check mark in front of them. Click Close.

Note: Some of the categories may fail to reset if Internet Explorer is unable to access a file or registry setting because of insufficient privileges, the files/settings being used by another program, low system memory, or high CPU usage. In such cases, you can either continue using Internet Explorer without restoring these settings or restart your computer, and then try resetting the web settings.

7. Click OK.

8. Close Internet Explorer.

Congrats! You’ve successfully reset your web settings in Internet Explorer 8.0 to default. Your changes will take effect the next time you open Internet Explorer.

To reset the web settings to default on Internet Explorer 7.0:

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.

3. Click the Advanced tab.

4. Click Reset.

5. Click Reset again.

6. Click Close.

7. Click OK.

8. Close Internet Explorer.

Congratulations! You’ve reset Internet Explorer 7.0's web settings to default. Your changes will take effect the next time you open Internet Explorer.

To reset web settings to default in Internet Explorer 6.0:

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.

3. Click the Programs tab.

4. Click Reset Web Settings.

5. Click Yes.

Note: If you'd like to reset homepages as well, check the Also reset my home page box, and then click Yes.

6. Click OK.

7. Click OK again.

8. Close Internet Explorer.

Shazaam! You’ve just reset your web settings in Internet Explorer 6.0. Your changes will take effect the next time you open Internet Explorer.

To reset web settings in Google Chrome 43:

1. In the top-right corner of the browser window, click the Chrome Menu 

2. Select Settings.



3. At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.



4. Under the section "Reset settings,” click Reset settings.



5. In the dialog that appears, click Reset.



6. Done! Chrome has been reset!

To reset web settings in Firefox 38.0:

1. In the upper-right corner of the Firefox window, click the Firefox menu button, then click on the “Help” button.



2. From the Help menu, choose Troubleshooting Information. 



Note: If you’re unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting information page.

3. Click the “Refresh Firefox” button in the upper-right corner of the Troubleshooting Information page.



4. To continue, click on the “Refresh Firefox” button in the new confirmation window that opens.



5. Firefox will close itself and will revert to its default settings. When it’s done, a window will list the information that was imported. Click on “Finish“.

Note: Your old Firefox profile will be placed on your desktop in a folder named “Old Firefox Data“. If the reset didn’t fix your problem you can restore some of the information not saved by copying files to the new profile that was created. If you don’t need this folder any longer, you should delete it as it contains sensitive information.

To reset web settings in Firefox 12.0:

1. Exit out of Firefox.

2. Click Start and select Run.

3. In the Run window type firefox -safe-mode and then click OK.

4. In the Firefox Safe Mode window check the box Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults and then click Make Changes and Rest.

Congratulations! You’ve reset your web settings in Firefox 12.1. Firefox will automatically open and be set to its default settings.

To reset web settings in Safari 8:

1. Open Safari.

2. In the upper-left hand corner click on the Safari menu.

3. Click the Clear History and Website Data button.



4. Select how far back you want the data to be cleared.



5. Click Clear History.

To reset web settings in Safari 7:

1. Open Safari.

2. In the upper-left hand corner click on the Safari menu.

3. Click the Reset Safari button.



4. Ensure that only the items that you wish to reset are checked.



5. Click Reset and you are done resetting Safari!

To reset web settings in Safari 5.1:

1. Open Safari.

2. Click the Settings button and select Reset Safari.

A warning dialog will appear detailing the items that will be removed. By default, all items within this window are checked.

Tip: The description of each item listed in the Reset Safari window is given below:

• Clear history: Clears the stored addresses of webpages you've viewed.

• Reset Top Sites: Clears the web addresses stored in Top Sites.

• Remove all webpage preview images: Clears the webpage preview images.

• Empty the cache: Clears the area on your computer where Safari saves webpages that you've viewed. The saved webpages are called the cache, and it helps webpages load more quickly.

• Clear the Downloads window: Clears the list of files you've downloaded from websites. Only the names are removed; the files themselves are still on your disk until you remove them.

• Remove all cookies: Removes cookies that websites have stored on your computer.

• Remove all website icons: Removes website icons, which are small graphics that help identify sites on the internet. You see them in the places such as the Safari address bar and bookmarks list. These icons are stored on your computer.

• Remove saved names and passwords: Removes user names and passwords, which Safari remembers for you when the AutoFill feature is turned on.

• Remove other AutoFill form text: Removes personal information, such as name and address, used to automatically complete forms on webpages. Safari remembers this information for you when the AutoFill feature is turned on.

• Close all Safari windows: If you don't close all Safari windows, someone could use the Back and Forward arrows to view the webpages you've visited.

3. Ensure that only the items that you wish to reset are checked.

4. Click Reset to complete the process.

Your Safari browser will automatically restart.

• Reset all location warnings: Clears any information that websites have saved about your location.
