I like "cultural Maoists" -- they want to exert 1984-style control over everything and literally bend reality to match their preconception of what reality ought to be like, just like Chairman Mao did. It's a far more apt comparison in my opinion, simply because there are endless whiners who will complain about the term "cultural Marxism" without understanding that it isn't actually real Marxism (sort of like the unending confusion over "social Darwinism"). Nobody can possibly be confused by a reference to Mao, as he never published any significant treatise that was subsequently twisted and abused to fit political agendas.

I prefer the "religious left" myself. It illustrates that their moral outrage rhetoric has become practically indistinguishable from right-wing religious nutjobs. And it pisses them off.
