They should take this to Broadway.

Still figuring out things after the infamous 2008 "Death of E3".

Basically, pre-2007 and pre-YouTube being everywhere, the focus was mainly on the smaller booths with more interactive presentations, geared more towards print journalism than video. It got a little out of hand though when every developer and publisher started coming up with more and more insane things to lure people to their booths. Number one attraction? Scantily clad ladies. By 2006 "Booth Babes" swamped the E3 floor and the whole conference started turning away vendors, who were precisely the kind of people they were trying to attract. Not to mention it was getting more and more expensive to put on the show. (Incidentally, that's how PAX started and that's also why they have very strict rules about models in booths)

In 2007 they had enough. Everything fun and entertaining was banned and the conference was slimmed down to a very vanilla, very mild series of presentations about video games. Only a handful of journalists got badges and most of the floor was marketing executives and salespeople. This went on for the next two years, but it was unpopular so they changed the format again and went with a more presentation focused conference with limits on what can be in the presentations and booths. So by the time 2012 rolled around, marketing departments realized that they had no experience running a show for a worldwide audience, due to spending the crucial early years of online streaming not working on E3. Hence the bizarre cringey presentation trying to connect to your average YouTube user, AKA everyone.

did he use "flavgo" as in the word from malcolm in the middle?

i'd say the worst part is how he pronounced pwned with a p..

EDIT: it's a typo of 'owned' people.

If people arent going to pronounce doge as dog-e instead of doudgh they certainly wont pronounce pwn as own.

uh no, doge is pronounge like rouge with a soft g. lrn 2 meme.

Dude, wtf? "Doge" is pronounced king of like d-oh-ge. When you say my name, you don't say "SomeCoolBlokee"? You say "bloke", like it's meant to be said.

Is qt3.14 prnounced "cutiepie" or qwetthreepointonefour?

Doge is pronounced the same way doggy is

no it's not

doge is like rouge or rogue with a soft g.

Nah, man. But see, it's language, so what we are really arguing for is opinion. I say A and you say B. I believe A and you believe B. It's good man, even though I think you sound like an idiot sorry

i pronounce it "powned"

sure it may be a type of owned.. but that 'p' sure aint an 'o'

How would you pronounce it?

it's pronounced 'owned'

the original 'pwned' was a typo, see how p is next to o?

But pwned is stil pronounced with a p.

I'm fine with either.

I'm equally intolerant of both.

except it's meant to be owned as it's a typo of owned.

Pwned has become it's own term meaning the same thing. If you mean "owned" you say "owned", if you mean "pwned" you say "pwned". It's not rocket science.

I fucking died when Pele said no, then just walked off hahahaha fucking gold.

I thought that was edited...did that really happen?

Some people, in portuguese, say no in the beggining of sentences and then continue the phrase as if they didn't say no.

A famous portuguese comedian group made a sketch about that:

"The man who starts every sentence with no, even when he agrees with the question"

so he said no? then responded?

yea he responded and talked about how he came up with calling football(soccer) the "most beautiful game". At least that is what i derived from it. I watched the whole thing and it was pretty hard to understand Pele talk in all honestly.

Portuguese is my first language, and it is hard to understand him even if he is speaking portuguese.

I thought Pele was kind of too fucking big a person to be on stage at E3. I don't think EA made the best of the situation... It's fucking Pele.

Only one of the most famous soccer players of all time.

I didn't watch the full thing, only this video but he clearly says "não".

It's a common thing to do in Portuguese.

My stepdad is from South Africa and he says no at the beginning of a response even wheen in agreement.

Like "Can you hand me that beer?" "This beer?" "No, roight; that's the one."

No, they're from Lisbon, pretty standard accent too.

Oh. I know a guy from Madeira who does this all the time, but in English. But it could also be because he's a horrible personality.

no. he rambled on about his soccer career for like 10 minutes incoherently.

The reality is that he rambled on and on and told weird stories that had nothing to do with anything, about how women wanted to touch his hair or something.

Also he was the best and most genuine part of the whole conference. There's no doubt he really cares about what he is doing. All the marketing robots that made up the rest of the show should take notes.

I would have been stuttering, sweating, and my lips/eye would have been twitching like I was about to have a seizure.

I can't stop thinking about how much he resembles Richard from Silicon Valley.

I bet the yarn is knitted middle out.

If it helps, his nervousness is what made his game stand out.

I haven't heard much about E3 this year, but because he was nervous, I knew about Yarnie before I watched this video.

90% of his sales are going to be because of how he behaved on that stage.

Don't forget he is Swedish, cringe is pretty standard for us.

The minion thing can't be real. The fuck kind of company reveals a childrens game at E3?

Yeah it was real...Probably the most boring game announcement besides the prolonged EA Sports segment, too. Looks terrible and no one really cared about it.

Nintendo.

Nintendo makes children's games that are played by ~20 year old people for nostalgia

POKEMON IS FUN

It's not that it was a children's game, Nintendo does just fine with that. It's that they revealed... an uninspired cash cow movie tie-in mobile game.

It isn't a childrens game. Minions have a huge following of teens and adults, mostly girls. My sister and mum both are obsessed with them, so I imagine that's the target demographic.

[–]Joewtf 0

I remember a weird Seasame Street Kinect game or something being revealed a few years ago. I remember staring at it like, for real? The video I linked isn't the press conference footage, but I remember being baffled during I believe Microsoft's conference.

I'm glad they ditched the cringy kinect stuff in this year's E3. The only bad thing I could remember from Microsoft's conference is when they brought that car down, like seriously? I thought we were past that point

Sony. Remember Wonderbook?

I tuned the fuck out when the woman came on stage to talk about mobile games and when this minion fuckery was on stage, one thing to remember though their conference is just as much for fans as it is their shareholders.

their conference is just as much for fans as it is their shareholders

It's almost entirely for the shareholders, it's an industry conference. They are there to show investors how they intend to make money over the next year or two, they just happen to stream it so fans can see it too.

one that caters mainstream gamers, thats what EA and E3 all about

The Unravel presenter is amazing. :) Makes me want to buy the game. Every game developer should have as much passion as that guy does. Then our games wouldn't come out yearly and wouldn't suck so much.

He's definitely better than "the hoop gawd". The fuck was up with that guy. That guy was how I imagine Flo Rida's biggest fan.

The dude literally only had like 400 followers on twitter at the time of the press conference... I don't if that number went up or not but... what the shit?

They spelled his twitter wrong. The screen said @THEHOOPGAWD when it's really @THAHOOPGAWD - 'tha' instead of 'the'.

Yeah that account had like 200 followers when he came on, now it only has 1000. It was just some shit they made up for that segment, pretty cringy.

The way he got up on stage like people actually knew him. Cringy and annoying.

I know, its the reason I looked him up. I thought he was like some famous basketball player or something.

Um maybe you didn't read it correctly? 1000. Twitter. Followers.

He's as celebrity as you can get, bruh.

And they didn't even spell his twitter name correctly on stage. It's "thahoopgawd" with an 'a'.

It had the same impact on me that the Little Big Planet 3 presentation had on me. It's really endearing to see the devs actually interacting with their creation.

He looks, talks, and acts like the guy from Silicon Valley.

Man, this circlejerk. Just because someone is super nervous standing in front of hundreds doesn't mean he's any more passionate about the game than the next guy. You can be absolutely calm, relaxed and reading from a script and still be passionate about something.

So you're saying that this man has the same amount of passion as the guys presenting/making Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed (turned to shite a long ago) and other over-reviewed games that come out yearly?

Oh man, way to make me miss Conker. :'-(

;__; raptors vs cavemen i miss u

I actually am really excited by Unravel. You can tell that dude really loves what he made.

i feel so bad for him that he was shown around by EA with the big 'hey look we support indie-studios and games and stuff like all the cool kids*'-sticker on his head.

I felt really bad for him.I can't count how many times I went up to present a project and got very nervous

Yeah, now imagine presenting at E3. Man I'm not even a very anxious person and I would just pay an actor to present it and pretend to be me.

I would rather do the Ubisoft thing and present it with Aisha Tyler, that way she could make an uncomfortable joke and relieve some anxiety.

That's actually not a bad idea

You should try beta blockers. (Medicine)

Or liquor. Or prn Xanax if you really have a problem. You'll still be nervous as shit even with propranolol. You just won't be sweating and shaking

I feel bad, but yet it also added an endearing element that made it stand out. Makes me actually want to go check it out.

I live in the same town as he. It's a small Swedish town 6 hours from everywhere, and his studio has only done Playstation Move games before, meaning they're really, really small.

Then one day they get picked up by EA and get put on a scene with with hundreds of people in the audience. Stuff like that doesn't happen in Umeå (our town) let alone Sweden. He'll hopefully get over it though. :)

is there a good summary about the whole e3?

Even summarized the food court. That's how you know it summarized the whole e3.

He didn't mention like, 90% of the epic-ness that was E3, especially the Bethesda conference. Granted, I'm a Bethesda fanboy, and the Bethesda conference wasn't exactly "at E3", it was still incredibly good. 5 years since Fallout: New Vegas, and 7 years since where the story line left off (Fallout 3), and not only are we seeing a really well made game, the Dev's are actively putting more and more content into the game that no one really expected.

Bethesda also announced Dishonoured 2, which isn't my favourite title in the world, but it's a unique game, with interesting mechanics, that will (more than likely) play the exact same as you see in the teaser.

He also didn't mention Mirrors Edge 2, which is probably over-hyped by the trailer, but it still looks like quite a good game. Mario Maker was barely talked about as well, despite the Nintendo World Championship being the unveiling (I believe), which is an excellent way to bring the audience in on a new game, as well as show just how good it is.

Maddox is a good content producer, but this video fell really far off the mark, in my opinion. More time was spent criticizing the entertainment and food then was put into reviewing the actual content itself.

Its satire so he's reviewing the food as a joke. Also, judging by his podcast, he doesn't really know much about current video games.
