This is the main sub I've been going to lately, I spend significantly more time here than the front page. It's like the peoples court I can watch while I poop or commute... or something, I can't stop.

Yep, this sub is my idea of reading the morning paper while I eat breakfast in the morning.

~bless this sub~

I find it's best to read while on the crapper (only at work, of course)!

Stimulates the colon for some strange reason.

Be careful about conditioning yourself, though.

"How do you plead?"

"Well, um.. could I have a few minutes?"

Aw shucks. I shouldn't take all the credit, but I will.

First and foremost, I'd like to thank myself. I'd also like to thank coffee . . . you are truly the black ambrosia. I suppose /u/foghornlawhorn should get a little bit of credit. He keeps me happy.

Oh, and the mods too, I suppose.

Black Ambrosia is the name of my R&B Slow Jams album. Edit this post or I'm suing you for copyright infringement!

This sounds like entrapment to me.

Everything smells like entrapment to you.

Judging by his user name, everything probably smells like feet to /u/GorgonZolla

You can't sue him, though. He has renters' insurance. You'll have to sue his landlord's insurance company.

This sub is the best.

I've browsed this sub on and off for a while now, and I'd just like to thank you guys for maintaining one of the best quality subs on reddit. Props to the community here, you guys are great. Keep going strong :)

Came here just to see LocationBot shit on OP. Was not disappointed.

LocationBot. Not taking shit from anybody since 2014 2013.

Redditor since:2013-09-05 (1 year, 9 months and 13 days)

I love you too, LocationBot.

I think the fact that LocationBot got so many upvotes is indicative of the point OP was making :)

the muffler man story had to be the most I laughed at reddit in a long time and this sub made it possible.

http://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/38r95x/arrested_for_public_intox_disorderly_conduct_ca/

Do you know the muffler man, the muffler man, the muffler man.

Do you know the muffler man, who gets drunk erry day?

What the fuck am I reading this is hilarious

What the actual fuck hahaha. I gave OP way too much credit thinking that "muffler" was some kind of regional slang for a beer koozie or something. Nope, a literal muffler.

I use a straw.

[–]placebo_addicted 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

And now a broken Mr Coffee tied around my neck. UPGRADE!!

I can't believe I missed that one. Thank you for mentioning it.

Holy shit, I am so sorry I missed that. That's fucking hilarious. I think it's even better than the Oven Mitt Guy.

Except Muffler Guy was clearly fiction. Right?

Apparently not. Muffler Man even hangs around and gives advice sometimes apparently. I've seen him tell off a couple OPs for being so stupid that the guy who drinks beer out of a muffler thinks they're stupid.

[–]Ramady 3

Yup. That's what sold me on Muffler Man. He's exactly what we need more of in this sub.

I don't doubt the account exists. . . I doubt the veracity of this particular story. But perhaps I'm wrong.

I'm of the opinion that it's the sort of thing that's just too stupidly wonderful to be made up. It's so hard to believe that I'm inclined to think it's true.

Well, far be it from me to take that from you.

It was made up. His responses got more and more ridiculous until it dispelled the illusion. It was still a great laugh.

[–]placebo_addicted 3ポイント4ポイント  (1子コメント)

I dunno. I believe in Muffler Man. I Believe!

[–]Ramady 0

I'm with you. That was hardly the most absurd thing I've seen on this sub.

So it would appear. But you never know. . .

What is this? Someone saying they actually enjoy and appreciate this sub, rather than saying "hurrr durrrr yer all idiotz and were wrong!!!!"?

Hmm...I got my eye on you, /u/Laodic3an.

As a lurker, this is by far one of my favorite subreddits to visit because 1) the advice is spot on and 2) you guys don't take shit from anyone. This combination leads to a lot of people being helped and hilarity when people are too dumb/stubborn to admit that they are wrong

Edit: I can't words

I lurk here too. I enjoy reading the legit questions and answers because I learn a lot, but I really enjoy reading the ones that are basically "help I committed a crime, how do I cover it up?" I love how this community rips into those people.

I subscribe to /r/bestoflegaladvice for the crazies! I think it's ny favorite place to lurk!

I lurk here and occasionally offer practical advice to people, but I'm not a lawyer. This is by far the most enjoyable sub on reddit.

Throwing my voice in as well. I also lurk. Love this place.

the ones that are basically "help I committed a crime, how do I cover it up?"

Even better is "I wanna commit a crime, how can I get away with it?" Which is both amusingly and depressingly common around here.

[–]placebo_addicted 6ポイント7ポイント  (6子コメント)

Worse. "I knowingly committed a crime. I've justified it to myself. Can you tell me what I should do to turn this around and sue someone, like the police? Only supporting commentators need apply. [Serious]. [Seriously, I'm serious]."

[–]Ramady 3

My personal favorite was the guy busted with an insane amount of hallucinogens in a school zone who was cool with it, since prison would be a spiritual experience.

He was incredible, and I want to find his stash. Because anything that can make think that prison will be a place for introspection and growth is some seriously good shit.

[–]Ramady 1

Saul Alinsky, the author of Rules for Radicals, said that every community organizer should spend some time locked up to collect their thoughts and meditate. Of course, the guy was a civil rights activist, not a druggie.

He also wrote it in the 60s, when prison rape was less de rigeur

[–]Ramady 1

True. Nowadays political operatives generally try to stay on the outside, although sometimes it's hard to avoid.

since prison would be a spiritual experience

Until it wears off, anyway.

More commonly, some version of, "I got drunk and wish to avoid the predictable consequences." Or, "No one involved in my tenancy is an educated grown-up." Or, "I have a personal issue with someone; can I fuck them over?" Or, "I have philosophical differences with the realities enforced by convention. How can I suspend them in the proximity of my person?" Or the dreaded, "I saw a badly-written, brightly-coloured website that used lots of capital letters. Who here would like to validate my weird assumptions, or instead suffer my withering scorn?"

But it's made up for by the interesting ones such as land disputes and people's creative ways of trying to disguise public drinking.

Me too. I first came here because I had some legitimate questions. I got good solid advice, and found a nice community of people who are willing to help. I stayed and kept watching because I found that I was learning a lot of new things that I was able to take back to people in my life (someone who was considering a trampoline learned what an attractive nuisance is)

It was after being here for a while that I found what a goldmine of crazy and denial comes here and how the nice people here don't take that shit. I love this place!

The best of sub was a great idea but I also found that if you sort this sub by top, there is some fun reading for hours!

Another lurker here. It's addictive- especially when you spot an idiot post early. Then you can play the game of 'who is going to rip into them first and how hilarious will it be?'

The kid bent up about having to put his phone in a box in a college lecture hall was one of my favourites.

Second that. The best part is that I actually get to learn things that would stand me in good stead in the future. For instance, I now have a good idea of what my rights as a renter are, how renters insurance is immensely beneficial, and the advantages of going through small claims court to settle minor disputes where you can't afford to hire a lawyer.

But most importantly, it's not nearly as Draconian as a certain history sub.

Your comment does not cite a source, and references something less than 20 years ago.

Yet another lurker! I came to goggle at trainwrecks, but have ended up learning a lot about the differences between American and Canadian law. Tricksy /r/legaladvice.

I have no interest in law, but the stories, combined with the honesty of the posters, is such a wonderful combination. Be sure to check out /r/bestoflegaladvice if you haven't.

This is my new favorite sub, the brutal honesty mixed with the dumb shit people do then want to not face the consequences for makes for more than a few laughs.

I'm here for /u/zapopa ... even if I do like my HOA

FYI, /r/Zapopa is a thing.

(Still not sure why as there are no nudes anywhwere, but there you have it).

[–]placebo_addicted 2ポイント3ポイント  (5子コメント)

/r/Zapopa is a thing! That user is a Midwestern housewife with multiple Certificates of Completion in various household arts, the Integration of Needlepoint in the Modern Home from the Clark County Women's Workshop being of particular note.

I particularly like her book of Farm Fresh vegan recipes.

[–]placebo_addicted 1ポイント2ポイント  (2子コメント)

Don't you? I'm trying to implement her foot by foot herb garden right out my back stoop. She's big on margoram. I'm a little nervous.

Her YouTube channel has some good vlogs that should offer some guidance. Worst case scenario, I think she still sells artisanal herb "starter kits" on etsy.

[–]placebo_addicted 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

/u/zapopa has an entire etsy store?? This is great news! From now on, I will respond with her link with when I get unwelcome invites to LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. Win-win, as they say.

Why does sidebar on /r/Zapopa says "He" instead of "She"?

Ask him about bitcoins. He loves bitcoins.

I pay my HOA dues in bitcoins, they charge extra because of my emotional support walrus.

If there was ever a sentence to make /u/zapopa's blood boil so much it ruptures from his veins and shoots out of his eyes . . . this is it.

We had a meeting about a month ago. Our County treasurer had on the agenda nothing except this word: "Bitcoin?" When we got to her she was babbling on about how this is the "next big thing" and for us to start collecting taxes and fees in bitcoins would be a good way to connect with the younger citizens.

Remember that IRL I am quiet and respectful. I suggested she do more research on the issue and bring back some pros and cons. Inside, it was all I could do to not shout NO! NO! NO!

five years later, treasurer under charges of fraud for losing the county's entire tax revinue in a bubble scheme.

Inside, it was all I could do to not shout NO! NO! NO!

Oh, I'm sure you shouted more than that. Perhaps some adjective-filled descriptions of what exactly you think of that treasurer?

Haha, but bitcoins for taxes sounds like the dumbest idea I've ever heard.

Actually shes a relatively intelligent lady, she just has absolutely no idea what bitcoin is. All I could think of when I was there was watching absurdly unhip Ed Sullivan trying to describe The Beatles or Elvis to his Perry Como and Bing Crosby audience. I watched that as a kid and it was quite painful even then.

Recommend to her that y'all collect your taxes in Beanie Babies. Those will only go up in value and the kids are raging about them.

[–]Zapopa 1

Well remember IRK I'm caring and supportive. I'm confident with a little research she will quietly let the thing die.

The only way it could possibly work is using a service that immediately converts the bitcoins into good old USD and sticks it in an account owned by the county. That, and make the bitcoin loving taxpayer eat the cost of the fees.

I'm having a house built in an HOA - I'll go duck and run for cover now

[–]The_Original_Gronkie 5ポイント6ポイント  (1子コメント)

You just haven't gotten a $1000 fine for leaving your newspaper in the driveway past 9 am yet.

Are some HOA fines that cheap?!?!

It's pretty dangerous to give anonymous, offhand, sometimes amateur legal advice. That said, most people here seem to understand that we're just taking our best guesses, and our advice usually has to just be "hire a lawyer." So it works.

What about the landlocked dude? Where's our update? Did that bastard die and leave us hanging?

The nature of what he has going on, if he does come back to update us, it wouldn't be for quite some time unless there was some settlement reached before the dispute sees a courtroom.

After I skim my front page I head right here and enjoy it while eating my morning oatmeal :)

Well said. I recently stumbled in here, and I'm extracting serious enjoyment.

This is probably my favorite subreddit and I'm not lawyer or anything, I just love all of the funny stories and seeing some of the shit people put up with. Oven mitt and muffler man come to mind, and of course the "muh rights are violated!" posts from people who just don't know how to shut up.

You're welcome. Tipping is customary, though.

I also enjoy this sub as a non-lawyer. The hardest part is just keeping my non-lawyer mouth shut in threads, however.

If I'm having thus much trouble, it worries me that others are as well and might be doling out questionable advice to folks here. I hope that as the sub grows, the moderation of clearly bad advice can be removed and warnings/bannings given for frequent armchair lawyers.
