Nancy didn't pass away. She was murdered. And if you want to pay tribute to her, why wouldn't you post a picture of just her? What's the point of including Benoit other than to rile people up?

I hate the term "passed away". She was murdered, killed.

"This guy was awesome at fake fights, let's just try to ignore him murdering his family and remember the moves he did that...probably led to him murdering his family"

According to Lance Storm, the diving headbutt was a total work that can be performed safely, so I get a little weary of people blaming it for Benoit and D Bry. If I had to guess, I'd say it was the unprotected chairshots that were fairly common back then, or the accidental but regularly shrugged off random concussions that could occur from anything that led to the brain damage. Watching Royal Rumble 01 is really uncomfortable with that in mind.

[–]StendhalSyndromeKing of Strong Hair-style 7

Yeah but according to the Dr's who autopsied the man's brain said it was due to severe trauma. It obviously wasn't JUST the flying headbutt, I can't remember how many time he opened his self up "the hard way" with regular head butts, or his nasty ass looking clotheslines. Dude was stiff as fuck and took liberties with his body/head.

Put Dynamite Kid in a wheelchair and Benoit never put his hands Down when he missed it as far as I can remember

[–]AqeelkI Mark For Suplexes 3

Harley Race has spoken about how regretful he is for starting using the diving headbutt because it even destroyed him physically. I am sure the move is a lot safer than it looks, but if you're doing multiple basically every night for years some will fuck up, and those add up.

Benoit didn't protect himself very well with his headbutts. I cringe when I watch him do it off the ladder during WM21 MITB. He just fell straight on his face

Unprotected chairshots and a cocktail of steroids, paranoia with his wife and Kevin Sullivan, being stiff and taking rough moves straight is a dangerous combo. The headbutts didn't help.

Harvey Race once talked to Chris Benoit specifically to say, "Cool it with the diving headbutts. You're going to wreck your head and neck."

I don't think the diving headbutt was the main factor in Benoit's mental issues, but it couldn't have helped.

It's in extreme bad taste to include Benoit, as he's the one who murdered her. So what if he was fucked up in the head, he still did it. A picture of her on her own would be far more respectable and less uncomfortable.

Theres not a murderer on this planet that's right in the head 100% of the time. Are you sick fucks going to try to justify their atrocities if they learn how to chain wrestle, too?

ITT: People forgetting the massive neurological damage that occured to Chris Benoit.

By the end, he had the brain of an 80 year old with Alzheimer's. He was an unwell man, not a monster.

[–]Humungo_DungoChip off the old Brock! 30

I think we all want to say who is right and wrong in this argument but there really isn't a right answer. What he did was horrible, but what happened to Benoit over the course of his wrestling career to cause him to do it was also horrible. Let's hope that wrestling continues to get safer so this tragedy is never repeated.

[–]JohnBoyAndBillyMuck of Avarice 8

You know, I've had two grandparents with Alzheimers, each around 80. Neither were able to drive a car, let alone execute the hectic schedule of flights, matches, and the like that Benoit maintained until the last weekend of his life.

While there is no doubt brain damage occurred, I believe the generic "he had the brain of an 80 year old with Alzheimers!" is a massive oversimplification. If I had to guess, it was a combination of brain damage, standard marital issues, the rage caused by testosterone replacement therapy, and the hangover he was experiencing (according to Chavo) that led to him killing Nancy.

I forget where Vince McMahon was being interviewed, but he refuted this theory, stating that if it were true, Benoit would not have been able to use the restroom on his own, let alone function day to day like a capable person.

I had an uncle who was 80 years old with dementia. He didn't murder anyone. Stop justifying it.

Verne Gagne did, and nobody blamed him for it.

Dementia isn't the same as brain damage from concussions.

Lots of older sports players, especially NHL and NFL players have either had suicidal thoughts/personality changes or actually killed themselves.

Edit- He deleted his comment. He said "My 80 year old grandfather has never murdered my grandmother".

If you seriously think Damage that severe should make him act like a normal old man, then you're delusional.

The man had CTE, which can cause memory loss, confusion, impaired judgment, impulse control problems, aggression, depression, and, eventually, progressive dementia.

There are reports of benoit having multiple symptoms of this.

    http://www.bu.edu/cte/about/what-is-cte/

It really sucks that people so blindly hate someone who wasn't in control of their actions. We shouldn't blame the sick for the actions of disease.

To be fair, there's no proof whatsoever that that was why he did what he did. He may have also just been an unhinged maniac.

There's almost no evidence to suggest that he was just a nutjob though.

He had lots of friends in the industry for years, and every single one of them was floored by what happened. It was known that him and Nancy had some tension, but everyone always said Benoit was a great dad (he was Eddie's go-to babysitter).

I'd be more willing to believe guys like Jericho, Chavo, Bam Bam, Eddie and Regal who knew him for years than to just assume he suddenly became a heartless monster within the span of a year.

I don't think someone as good-hearted as Eddie Guerrero would choose Benoit as a best friend/brother if he was really such a terrible person.

He also wasn't some helpless, brain-addled old fart with no perception of reality. He was a functioning adult who was performing regularly on television for years up until the very week he committed two horrible murders. No one has ever suggested he was acting in any way that would suggest the massive brain damage he'd suffered was effecting him.

You don't have to be a drooling mess to be seriously mentally ill. There's been plenty of stories of people who were severely ill but managed to hide it from friends/co-workers. Or stories of people who had brain trauma from an accident and had their personalities change in subtle but worrying ways.

Think about how many people commit suicide and seemed "just fine" to friends and family just days earlier.

It's important to remember that Benoit laid bibles next to both of them after he died and seemed to believe that he'd sent them to a better place. Then he hung himself, and hanging isn't exactly a quick, easy way to die.

It works both ways--you don't have to be mentally ill or brain damaged to commit murder.

Maybe not, but the way in which the murders were carried out, plus the stuff he'd written in his journal, plus his history of head trauma, strongly suggest some kind of mental illness.

I guess I stopped paying attention to the news when it came out that they all 3 died on separate days? or is the tweeter misinformed

Hitler was a vegetarian, a painter, and loved dogs. Let's remember him for that, okay? Not for the other things he did while he was sick in the head.

Not defending Benoit, but that's not even correct logic.

Why not? They both have redeeming qualities, and they both committed atrocities. What's different? You think Adolf wasn't mentally ill?

Do you need a more direct comparison, then? Maybe someone from an athletic background? Will OJ Simpson do? Oscar Pistorius? Multiple NFL guys?

One willingly wanted world domination/was legit evil fuck, the other was a damaged man by trauma and drugs that did something evil to his family and himself.

The motives, the people, and the body count aren't even the same. But Benoit = Hitler right?

I'm not defending a double murder suicide, but it's nowhere close to a genocidal maniac. (not Sabu)

The logic is incorrect because with Hitler, you're describing things he did alongside his agenda with the Nazi party, namely stuff in his leisure time that probably had no bearing on why he did the things that he did. With Benoit, you're implying that his profession, which is what caused his mental illness in the first place, is merely peripheral to his status as a murderer, as though being a murderer was something he did on the side, and being a wrestler was just a footnote. That's not the case at all.

Also, up until the incident, Benoit had a ton of respect in the industry as a guy who never politicked to hold anyone down and was always straight with young guys and always worked hard to put on a great match no matter who he was against. He was a consummate professional.

The same could be said for OJ Simpson.

Wasn't OJ a known abuser though?

And yet you didn't address other athletes I mentioned, all who did great things for their sport, and were considered consummate professionals up until their respective murders.

I responded to you literally before you even made that edit. Even so, where did I mention great things done for the sport or anything? You didn't even address the point that I addressed, which was how your comparison of Hitler's hobbies relating to his crimes and Benoit's profession relating to his is completely bogus.

    [–]DayOfTheDolphinOwen 3:16 says 0

WWE, no matter how much they like to pretend it, are not a wrestling historical society. They're an entertainment company. Glorifying child murderers does not sell tickets. If they deleted all his matches from the network, I wouldn't be happy about it, but it'd be well within their rights.
