Wouldn't kids in their teen years, who were beaten as youngsters, only be more likely to be rebellious?

I mean everyone is a little rebellious in their teen years, and some people who are ... bogans/chavs like those pictured are because they were abused.

Yes, everybody is likely to be a little rebellious in their teenage years. But physical punishment makes a person more likely to become violent themselves. So we can either have some kids who dress like the ones in the post, or we can have violent kids who dress like that.

Exactly. I don't have kids, and if I did, I wouldn't want them beating anyone. I wouldn't really mind if they dressed like the teens in the picture, so long as they treated people with respect.

Exactly. People act like the way the kids in the picture dress is having some huge effect on society, and as if we haven't all seen people dressed even more silly than that. But bottom line, no parent should be acting in a way they wouldn't want their child to act.

It's barely anything to do with it. Think about the environment they were raised in. Working class families, slob parents. A kid I knew had a sister who was pregnant at twelve. Their home was a tiny council house; 3 kids, 1 mom, no dad and a social worker. The youngest one was a complete edgelord once he turned 10/11 and pretty much became pic related.

Also their house gave me fucking hair lice.

remember, acting violently towards children shapes them into calm model citizens

I was spanked as a kid. Because it was my dad, I ended up afraid of older men, particularly fathers for awhile. I especially remember one time when I was at my friend's house, his dad got really angry after we accidentally knocked a lamp over. I immediately began sobbing, and he had to comfort me.

I was so mentally healthy.

I'm sorry to hear that, man. I hope you're in a better place now.

This is the kind of proper lessons we learned back in the olden days. Cower in fear of adults, seek succor from strangers, and most of all remember that violence solves all the tough problems.

Sounds more like college.

It's a good thing there were no such "rebels without a cause" in the 50s.

Spanking is not beating

I was spanked as a kid. I would NOT say I was "abused" or "beaten"

If only things in life were that simple, but no, each person's different.

IF WE BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF CHILDREN THEY'LL GROW UP TO BE WELL-ADJUSTED STRAPPING YOUNG LADS

In my experience, the kids that get beaten are the ones that turn into wannabe gangsters or occasionally actual gangsters.

Downvotes everywhere boys and girls

To be fair, I think the top picture is leaning more towards symbolizing discipline, not necessarily hitting your kids.

not necessarily hitting your kids.

But... it's literally a picture of a father hitting his son to the point of him screaming... It's quite clear that they mean discipline through corporal punishment.

Actually they both look like they're having a lot of fun.

Spanking isn't completely corporal punishment. Some parents take it to that extent, but it's supposed to be a show of authority. It shouldn't hurt.

It becomes beating/abuse when the focus is on inflicting pain rather than discipline.

STOP IT! YOU'RE RUINING OUR NARRATIVE HERE!

"spanking isn't the same as beating" Bitch what you think spanking is? Love tap on the butt? My dad took his whip to my ass and it made me more of a shithead. It just made more careful not to get caught. Like seriously what you think spanking is? Its literally beating your ass raw.....

My extensive knowledge about the youth in the fifties tells me that greasers were, unlike teens nowadays, clean-cut guys with stylish hair who enjoyed breaking into surprisingly choreographed song-and-dance routines about their cars or girls named Maria.
