Imagine we're playing a board game of some kind. If I can see the board game clearly, and you can't, I have an advantage. If I you think the board game works completely different than it actually does, it works to my advantage to maintain and feed your illusion. No matter how much you feel like "hey, I'm getting the hang of this!" --you are completely blind.

No, I mean how does keeping people in the dark about the nature of the planet stop people from breeding (or encourages people to breed - you didn't say which way they were controlling the population)?
