"This joke offends you as a transperson?"

"No, it offends me as a comedian."

Someone just watched today's hulu episode of Seinfeld

Holy shit. The Amazon show, Transparent, is about a Trans Parent.

I'm not a smart man.

Don't worry, I took way too long to get it, too.

I'd read so many reviews and posts about it, whose writers probably felt they didn't have to explicitly explain the joke, before it clicked. Knowing that other folks are also slow on the uptake makes me feel a little better!

I have been tortured with this advert on 9001 youtube videos. I am not going to watch that thing (dubbed, so probably old for you already).

My dad is trans. Gonna dust this off at thanksgiving.

My dad is trans.

What does that mean? He was a woman and is now a man? Or he was a man and is now a woman, but you still refer to him as your dad? Or was he your biological mom and you now refer to him as your dad?

The only person I know in this position calls the person who provided the sperm his father, even though she's a woman. I don't think there's a clear etiquette for it, though - they could easily go the other way.

man is now woman, but provided the sperm, therefore the biological dad.

also, she was probably a man until recently, meaning /u/disturbed3335 had her as a dad for most of his life, and is just used to calling her dad anyways.

if my dad decided to go the other way when i turn 25, i'm still going to call her dad. all that "dadhood" isn't going to be undone.

[–]iama_username_ama 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Trans people go through a ton of awful shit to get the world to see them how they are supposed to be. Generally speaking if someone uses male pronouns (and aren't bring a jerk) it is because that is how that person identifies.

So in this case the most likely assumption is that their dad was assigned female at birth.

The first one, probably. You always use the pronouns and related words that are in line with the the way the person identifies.

Pronouns certainly would change, but further reflection leads me to believe it is the second.

[–]i_forget_my_userids 2ポイント3ポイント  (1子コメント)

No, it's likely the other way.

Yeah you're right.

I find it offensive that you've blindsided me with a pun.

She actually looks sorta hot. Like an old Los Vegas hooker.

I was trying to explain to a friend who brought her up the other day, that I found her oddly attractive. I have a huge Lana Del Rey crush, and I kind of see a similarity.

Better looking than she was as a man, tbf

Too bad man. She likes vagina.

[–]Where_is_dutchland 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

Well, who doesn't? Like boobs, gay or straight, everybody likes boobs. Boobs

Los Vegas

I see what you did there

This is clearly a most inoffensive joke

Linking to a gallery for a single image causes cancer

Everyone is questioning the eraser.... how do you sharpen the pencil all the way to a tiny nub?

Edit: Sry, wrong thread.

Ha, now that is what I call a change of face

You know the part in Jurassic park where Alan figures out that frogs can change sex in certain environments? I just remember my sister yelling the words "just like Bruce Jenner!" Last time I saw it.

That caitlyn jenner is a real mother father

I think the reason why I don't get this joke is because I don't keep up with the pop-news. And have almost no idea as to who Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner is.

Ghosts are spooky triggered

Trust me, somebody, somewhere is offended and crying on their day bed right now. But it was funny.

Being offended by something is entirely subjective. We can't live being afraid to offended people. It is ok to be offended. It does not hurt you.

Being offended by something is entirely subjective.

It absolutely is, but I think the person being made fun of gets to make that subjective judgement, not the person doing the ridiculing...

[–]Simim 6

I think it's okay if you unintentionally offended someone, but if you continue to do it intentionally you're an asshole.

So you shouldn't be afraid to offend anyone; if someone feels offended they may tell you and you can apologize and not do it again.

It's a learning experience.

I'm offended when comedy is suppressed by the offended. I suppose people should refrain from doing that, then? Or else they're assholes?

Only when they're around you, I suppose.

What I'd initially said would only really apply if you cared whether or not you were an asshole to somebody. Some may not mind being an asshole to someone who gets offended when comedy is suppressed by the offended.

Only when they're around you, I suppose.

And how do they know I'll always not have access to their message, or the effects of it? Shouldn't they just stop doing it altogether for fear of being assholes?

What I'd initially said would only really apply if you cared whether or not you were an asshole to somebody. Some may not mind being an asshole to someone who gets offended when comedy is suppressed by the offended.

So they may not mind being assholes to those offended by their actions, but they expect others not to be assholes to them?

Everyone wants to be a victim.

How sad that comedy requires disclaimers like this now.

Yes, it's quite sad that the Internet has been flooded with transphobic and degrading jokes and comments regarding Caitlyn Jenner ever since she came out.

House full of women, someone was bound to be Jan.

Do none of you understand what joke means?

I love it,good job!

Is it about her running somebody over with a car? I forget the punchline.

This post self identifies as funny, so if you down vote it then you're a bigot.

The only joke is in her pants.

Am I the only one who really really really want's to see him/her nude?

I don't know. I was a kid when he was a famous athlete and was a huge fan. Then he was on a tv show (CHIPS) that I really liked. Seeing him nude would be too disturbing for me.

I think the worst part about Caitlyn is that she spells her name with a C.

Edit title: A non-funny joke about Caitlyn Jenner.
