The problem is they're finding evidence the guy is innocent, and the person lying is still treated like the victim no matter what.

A guy got banned from his college campus because he looked like a guy that had raped a student years ago, even though the student admitted it wasn't him and they only looked alike.

The rape hysteria is out of control, the rape rates are very low.

Around 6/1000 and they're treating it like it's some kind of epidemic.

But facebook says 1 in 3 girls will be raped in college, who am I supposed to believe???

Look to your left, now you look to right. Statistics show that both of these men will rape you.

"I'm not gonna rape you."

"...I might"

I think its more like 1 in 5 and thats only "sexual harassment" which includes a middle schooler using the word "cunt" to the wrong female middle schooler.

In reality, this means probably all women and all men have been "sexually harassed".

Correct. I remember during my freshman year we all took online courses on rape and sexual harassment and every single time it was "1 in 4 women are sexually harassed or assaulted" which was very dramatic and then "1 in 32 men are raped" which is completely separate. Sexual harassment is not the same as rape and using the 1 in 4 statistic just makes it look worse than it is.

I agree. Very misleading and most people are in too much emotional shock at that figure to think clearly.

I would like to see the source you have to back up that statement

I read it a long time ago on a feminist posting. I noticed the key words "sexual harassment" rather than "rape" or "sexual assault" and I thought, "wow, this is sure to mislead some people."

The posting had no source. I'm just going from memory about something I noticed. I'm not trying to make an accurate claim.

Which part did you disagree with, though, just curious.

Again, I'm not trying to make a claim. I was just responding to a guy talking about facebook posts here.

Well reddit says it almost never happens. Maybe stop getting your information for douchebags on the Internet.

Typically the 1-in-3 statistic is far broader than rape (e.g. "physical or sexual assault"). Alternatively it's "a third (33%) of the rape and sexual assault victimizations involved completed rape" (source)

Or they are counting 'remorse rapes' were the si called victim withdraws their consent after the completed act.

Apparently in colleges this is also considered rape.

Actually, from my understanding, that statistic comes from Fisher, B.S., Cullen, F.T., & Turner, M.G. (2000). The Sexual Victimization of College Women. National Institute of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics... (linked to google page, PDF in first link)

Page 10 (17 of the document):

At first glance, one might conclude that the risk of rape victimization for college women is not high; “only” about 1 in 36 college women (2.8 percent) experience a completed rape or attempted rape in an academic year. Such a conclusion, however, misses critical, and potentially disquieting, implications. The figures measure victimization for slightly more than half a year (6.91 months). Projecting results beyond this reference period is problematic for a number of reasons, such as assuming that the risk of victimization is the same during summer months and remains stable over a person’s time in college. However, if the 2.8 percent victimization figure is calculated for a 1-year period, the data suggest that nearly 5 percent (4.9 percent) of college women are victimized in any given calendar year. Over the course of a college career—which now lasts an average of 5 years—the percentage of completed or attempted rape victimization among women in higher educational institutions might climb to between one-fifth and one-quarter.

To me, this seems like dubious statistics, but even if you just use the 6.91 months for 4 years (a normal college experience from what I've seen), you still end up with 11.2% of women being victims of either rape or attempted rape in their college careers.

Actually sexual assault is the 6/1000, rape is even lower.

Yeah, not sure why I worded it that way.

To play devils advocate, where is that statistic from? And does it consider under reporting and lack of evidence or is it actual rape/assault convictions?

http://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=tp&tid=317

You can't base rape rates on rapes that are not reported, you work with the info you have.

We have no idea what the actual numbers are, but that doesn't mean you can just say it's 1-4 or 1-5 and that makes it so.

If anything they were generous with it, they included insults and grabbing as straight up sexual assault.

[–]what_are_you_smoking 7ポイント8ポイント  (5子コメント)

One of the links says there is a disturbing number of rapes that go unreported to police (both students and non-students, 80% and 67%, respectively.) I wonder how they can accurately determine the number of unreported rapes. I'm sure it's in the report, but I didn't see it right away and am too lazy to see.

unreported rates are gotten from anonymous surveys and anonymous help lines/groups. but it is hard to determine.

wouldn't reporting a rape to an anonymouse help line still count as reporting it? Is reporting a legal term that means something different than "give a spoken or written account of something that one has observed, heard, done, or investigated."

unreported typically means unreported to the police and the police then don't track and document it because they don't know it happened.

If you count either sexual partner feeling bad about the act the next day as rape, then obviously you will get those completely bullshit high rates. Most people have had sex they later regretted. Maybe at the moment they were just Horney, but the next day you have to keep working with your coworker ir something.

hmm interesting. thanks for the link. i'll bookmark it and hopefully get to it later.

Its probably not including nonreported rapes but uts most definitely including any possible false allegations

[–]s_webermanjensen 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Especially in the colleges.

My university has this big pie chart put up by our resident women's right/feminazi or something organisation about accusations vs. prosecuted cases, and while it's certainly probably disproportionate, it reads through with a clear intention of saying that an accusation is as good as a conviction.

It's getting to be like the Salem witch hunts.

Oh man, you're sooo fucked. How DARE you call any number low in connection to RAEP?
