So now /r/MURICA is about disrespecting the south? That's fucked up.

Slavery was wrong, we all know that. But by posting this you are disrespecting the South, my home, and my family. You are also disrespecting everyone who died in the Civil War. And finally, you are really disrespecting ever god damn commie killing southern veteran who is out their protecting our God given rights right now.

That pisses me off. So you can take that white flag, shove it up your ass, and fuck right off you damn commie. Go join the French or something.

Edit: Apparently some awesome Patriot agrees that we all deserve a little respect! Thanks for the gold, Patriot!

In case you don't know, that's not a privilege granted only to Texas. Your just like everyone else patriot. IF YOU THINK ONE STATE IS GREATER THAN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AS WHOLE, U MIGHT AS WELL BE SERVING TEA AND CRUMPETS AT KIM JONG IL'S PRIDE RALLY!!!

I think I just a tear...

ACTUALLY, This has nothing to do with the south, I live in the south, I was born in the south, but above anything else, I am an American. The confederate flag stands for a lot of things I don't. I don't stand for bigotry, I don't stand fro secession, and I don't stand for the confederacy. You bet your ass I'm disrespecting the confederacy. The men who died to protect the confederacy were not Americans. They were confederates, and those very men killed Americans.

Agreed. As far as I'm concerned, the men who fought for the confederacy no longer wanted to be part of America, and attacked Americans, so they will be treated as traitors and enemies. The confederacy wasn't even the whole south anyway.

Or they just didn't want to see their hometowns burned to the ground.

Then they probably shouldn't have attacked the U.S.

ITT: Yankees defending the Union's genocidal actions, the rape and torture of innocent Southern civilians during the war shouldn't go unnoted.

But the torture and rape against the slaves that southerners started the entire war to protect should?

[–]Rehald 0

Again, not all southerners. Only 1/4th of Southerners owned slaves. Everybody condemns civilian casualties in war, why is the Civil War exempt from that?

The same could be said of the men fighting for Germany in the last days of WW2. Their personal motives are understandable, but that doesn't make the banner they wave any more just.

Those Confederates didn't chose to be born and raised where they were. Maybe you should read a little more history about what the Civil War was about.

Hint: a bit more than bigotry. Read a bit about what Ulysses S. Grant did.

This is true, but I think that the most impressive lasting effect that the confederacy had was bigotry and racism.

But what the north did to the south isn't unlike what we've seen happen in wars and societies for the past 15 years in, for example, the Middle East.

The South had its barely-industrial economy destroyed thanks to Sherman. Atlanta was burnt to the ground. It took DECADES for the South to recover. Don't you think that would have prolonged, adverse effects on how people handle race, politics, and other issues?

I mean, it was freaking 1960's before blacks even had a fair shake in American society via the Civil Rights acts, and that wasn't a Southern problem, but an American problem. Racism isn't just a thing south of the Mason-Dixon. Some people just rally around the confederacy because they're bitter about their families losing a lot.

No, it isn't. Just like me saying fuck Nazis isn't disrespecting Germans. The Confederacy were traitors who fought to destroy the union and to continue slavery.

I think you're generalizing this a little too much. I believe this post was making a jab at a group that thought they knew better than the USA, tried to fight us on it and lost. (which I'd say isn't to be unexpected in this sub)

If anything, this post is disrespecting the Confederate States of America, and any disrespect is limited the timeframe in which they existed and confederate soldiers.

Going my your logic, if we made this joke about Nazi germany, it would be disrespectful towards every german and every person who ever lived in that region. Can you see how that doesn't make sense.

And side that loses a war usually doesn't get much love, because that's how history works.

Try to lighten up, Patriot.

The Confederate Flag is not "The South." It's a symbol of an aspect of the South of which every southerner should be ashamed, and not flying in their front yards as if they're proud of what their ancestors were fighting for.

You can be proud of your history while understanding right from wrong. The Confederate flag is no longer relevant except for remembering the story of America.

The only flag I follow is the American one. No disrecpect, but that is the only flag for this country we have.

FUCK COMMIES!!!

Oh, I guess now I'm disrespecting dirty commies?

Take that commie horseshit attitude back to your USSR motherland ya damn dirty commie!

It's called the 1st Amendment, freedom of speech. Only a dirty commie would complain about it.

The south didn't want to be a part of Murica anymore so we had to show them damn commies who was boss.

So talking shit about the confederacy is disrespecting the modern day south?
