They fucking don't. CPD is pretty incompetent, and nothing like this has ever happened here before. There are helicopters flying around my house, and I'm on the opposite end of the city. I just drove over the bridge and back. I saw no cops, no checkpoints...It's a goddamn Peninsula not many ways to get out. This dude is long gone. Unless there were decent cameras in that church he will never be caught.

I was thinking that too. Block the connector, the ravenel, and the 17 bridge and get the coast guard to lookout for boats. Block off everything trying to go north of the strip clubs. Its not too hard of an area to keep in check, especially at night on a Wednesday.

Its probably too late for that now. If checkpoints at those places you mentioned had been set up immediately following the shooting, he may have been caught by now. But for all we know he booked it and could already be as far out as columbia.

      That's an eerie thought. They have nothing but a vague description of who it could have been. He doesn't have to go very far for very long before he's considered "safe" from being caught.

      The fact that it's possible this guy may go back to his day to day life is just.. Jesus it's a weird thought. That being said, I hope he does. I've just never heard of something like this where they could get away this easily.

        What scares me is rioting if the guy doesn't get caught :( It looks really bad if they don't catch a guy that just killed more people than the Boston bombers, but now they are predominantly African-American and the police seems impotent.             This is only speculation, but 911 dispatchers apparently talked to the suspect when he reported the bombs. Perhaps he said something then, that authorities have not yet shared with the public, that is fueling the "hate crime" talk.

            Again, we don't have any info right now, so this is just a thought.

            The church is notable for its history, but so are most churches in that part of Charleston. The Senator is not that well known outside of his district (I follow state politics and hadn't heard of him before) and is a pretty typical Democrat. The three bills he sponsored this session are all ceremonial (name X road for Y person, etc.). He was campaigning with Hillary today.

The threat is just potential evidence at that point, when really he would want to lay low.                                                               Understandable mistake if someone isn't from the US or any anglo-speaking country. AA is pretty much just an anglo-american thing. I wouldn't expect, say, a Frenchman to know what AA was, and they may guess it meant "African American" in this context.
