Even though humans subconsciously become unfair towards other people who are different, that doesn't mean humans should feel bad. It's good that we realise what we may become when we ALLOW ourselves to fall back upon instinct. Inevitably, it is the higher mind that controls the body. Imagine if we always acted upon instinct...Hah!

Their methodology seems odd: "All speakers were born and raised in Richmond, British Colombia, Canada, and had a typical Canadian accent, however half of the speakers were white, while the others identified as Chinese, Vice News reported."

Why not just use the same voice recording with a white and then a chinese picture? Chinese candadians brought up in a chinese home might sound different (even within the bounds of "typically canadian") than a white person brought up in a white home.

I guess my question here would be - if it is something my brain might be doing subconsciously, what am I supposed to do about it?

I'd also wonder just how often my subconscious even does its thing. I tend to actively listen to people that are speaking to me, and I've never noticed a problem understanding anyone of any stripe outside of someone slurring or not enunciating. Accents don't seem to really make a difference unless they're really thick, and in those cases I don't think it's my brain's white hooded subconscious trying to trick me.
