You know, I'd argue that they're not talking about the friendzone automatically, but since it's 9gag, they probably are.

That comic was great

Can we get a master post of all the awful nice guy memes from 9gag

There's already one: 9gag.com

I don't think the Imgur servers could handle that much data.

i have no idea what this sub is about but it is really hard for me to be the badguy in video games, like infamous 2, i wanted the cool fire powers but i knew it was the evil choice so i stuck with ice,

I hate good/evil choices. But Mass Effect is awesome as a Renegade.

Ice powers were better anyway imho. I played both paths and you didn't miss much.

Yeah ice powers are cooler

I dunno if they're really talking about nice guys though. I mean, it's really easy to see yourself as the "good guy" when you can only see your thoughts/perspectives (especially for younger people like your average 9gag user, who are still at the age where they tend to believe things are black and white.) And it's really easy to see a lot of "bad guys" get far in life, because that's the majority of what you focus on in the news/day to day life (murderers getting away, corruption in the government and police, that asshole in school/work who everyone adores but you know cheated on his last exam/lies to the boss). I mean, this is alluding to the same basic "if you can't beat them join them" line of thought as the nice guys vs douchebags, but I'd bet that this is more about some fantasy where you can do what you want without having to deal with the guilt or morality of the situation than some fantasy where girls just don't like you because you're too nice to them.

Unrelated, but also, what game is the image from? It looks super familiar but I can't think of the name.

The game is infamous

Cool, thanks.

You're welcome.

[–]not_enough_characte 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

Way to steal the "you're welcome" karma. Asshole.

it's kind of right though. Everyone, not just "nice guys" puts on a facade of goodness. Everyone has urges to do something bad but we control ourselves, and in video games, we're allowed the freedom to release that impulsiveness and rage.

According to the game's creators, the "bad" ending was supposed to be canonical, however, they changed it to the "good" ending because so many chose to be good that the bad ending didn't make much sense anymore.

I always choose to be good in my games. Sometimes, when I make a decision that makes someone mad at me I reload my save file because whoops. (Dragon Age: Origins, people.)

One time I was playing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (? or just ACII) and there was a quicktime event to hug Leonardo da Vinci that I fucked up. I reloaded the game because I couldn't stand the fact I made Leo sad.

Infamous was a great game

Like... Yeah. "I want to become the bad guy because I want to become the bad guy."

Listen if I had super powers I wouldn't be either. Why do I automatically have to becom one or the other just because of new found abilities?

Because, like my Uncle Ben always said, "With great power, comes great responsibility." Now, if you'll excuse me, Uncle Ben is driving me to a wrestling match where I can win some money (between you and me, it's pretty much a done deal, but don't tell anyone). I think I'll take him out for milkshakes after with the winnings. Man, my Uncle Ben is great. I hope he's around forever.

He sounds like a swell guy.

My only argument for this would be to this being cringey, sometimes people feel like they HAVE to do the right thing because of the consequences or what they'll lose if they don't.

Given superpowers it removes the potential of having consequences or having to follow rules. So people follow their impulses because they're suddenly empowered, and have something they didn't. Video games are a prime example, that chance to not play by the rules.

I'd wanna be a superhero just because it'd be awesome not to having hating for being a douche, but that's me.

So... their morality didn't change at all?

but this is like, actually the reason I tend towards dick in games that have a morality system. Why wouldn't you want to RP a galaxy-scale asshole when it's nearly impossible for you to behave that way in real life? (plus in say, fallout 3, you can just fuck around completely and murder entire towns and not worry so much about the consequences as if you were good-karma. Basically, more sandbox.)

Anyway, totally relevant "nice-guy" post but I actually agree with it on a gameplay level.

Super villains are rich. Who doesn't want to be rich?

Wow, this is actually doubly hilarious because, according to the developers of inFamous, they changed the canonical ending of the game to the "good" ending because so many people took the good path.

Its not that wrong. But still a shitty image

This type of thought process is exhausting and I'll tell you why...

I'm a reformed "nice guy". I never knew why girls didn't want the 300 lbs of "loyalty and love" I had to offer. Of course, I'd do anything for love I thought. So I lost 100 lbs in a couple years.

Here's where things get tricky... I got attractive. I got "power" if you will. And I became an asshole. Not the "omg you're so attractive cause you don't give a fuck" asshole, but a "you told me you love me and now you slept with my best friend" asshole. The "stop toying with me already" asshole. And no, it's not awesome, and I'm not proud of it. And no, I didn't think "I'm tired of being a nice guy."

What changed is I had options. When you are powerless in any way, you have no option but to submit. Weak? Better submit to bullies. Can't defend your idea? Theirs is probably right. It's a survival technique. Ever see a dog give in by baring it's neck? You think it's being "nice"? No, it's scared that if it doesn't submit, you'll whoop it's ass. That's it's only perceived option.

And that's what "nice guys" are. They are afraid. If they don't act completely accommodating to someone, they may end up forever alone. That's why they attach to any person that gives them a little attention. Because in their mind there is no option, and they manufacture reasons why.

But they idealize what would happen if they had the opportunity, and how they would be totally in control and be the best lover ever. Sure. And kids grow up thinking they will not be addicted to cigarettes or alcohol or sweets or porn. But what happens when you don't have discipline built up? That's right, you lose control. You have no power. So this "heroes consciously giving up being the good guy thing" is bullshit. Judge a tree by its fruits. Sure, without water it may not grow bitter fruits, but if you give it water and the fruits are bad, you've got a bad tree. And if a "nice guy" suddenly has options and becomes a complete prick well... You do the math. Anyways, forgive my ranting.

TL;DR: Nice guys are nice to survive. if all it takes is a little power to become a dick, you're just a dick

I'd become a bad guy because it seems so much easier. If you're a hero, you gotta go around stopping all the bad guys and shit. If you're a villain, you can just chill all day and be like "Hey maybe I'll rob a bank and set some people on fire today. But maybe I wont. No rush"

Not quite true. Without the villain, the story has no conflict or plot. Essentially, it's all on the bad guy to make the story exciting. Villainy is a full time gig, you gotta be actively planning nefarious hijinks all the time.

I'd become a supervillain because they get shit done. They have a more direct method and solutions, provided they don't get distracted by their revenge fantasies. Villainy doesn't imply acting contrary to human decency or social mores, it just means you take an antagonistic approach instead of a protagonistic approach, or fulfill an antagonist role to someone who views themselves as a protagonist.
