It seems so yes especially amongst pseudo-intellectuals. Evo Psych is nothing more than unsubstantiated nonsense that unfortunately disguises itself as "science" and is used as a crutch for people who want to validate their shitty ideas.

It has parallels with mythology. In ancient times, people didn't understand what the Sun was or how the mountains were created, so they created stories. Today, people (and not just twerps -- evo-psych say-so stories are sadly quite common) don't understand neuroscience, psychology or anthropology, so they make up stories that explain how things are.

But what frightens me is that it's the same story. Women brought sin/feminism into the world. Women are the vile temptresses. Men must lead. Women will destroy your soul. Is RP just a secular Westboro Baptist Church? I would feel better if it was a new myth.

Exactly. If it's a hypothetical situation about cavemen that seems like it kinda-sorta makes sense, it must be true! All the STEM! goes out the window, if it can be used to justify a sexist worldview.

It's the flavor of the week. Phrenology was popular in the late 1800's and early 1900's and sounded oh so scientific. The problem is that everyone assumes that science comes up with answers and delivers Truth. What's so however is that science mostly tells us what's not true and gives us better questions. Today's answers lead to tomorrow's questions. This is exponentially true when it comes to psychology. Just remember that someone (I think James Hillman but don't quote me) once said, "Psychology today is where surgery was at when barbers did it."
