Oh wow, I was not expecting the settlement building aspect at all. This game is looking amazing already

Seriously. It basically just took all of those Early Access games like Rust and told them to fuck right off, this is how the big boys do it.

Well, with only 5 months till release, the game is pretty much finished at this point. They have been working on this for a few years now and there certainly were plenty of downgrades and cut features that we will never learn about.

But yes, it is pretty refreshing to see a publisher come out with a finished product for a change.

You never know from trailer to be honest.

A lot of games looks very polished months before release, and it turns out to be a giant pile of crap.... :(

I do have faith though, fallout has been great so far, i have faith in 4.

All I'm waiting for now is for them to announce instanced multiplayer where you can storm another players settlement and take all their shit.

That would be neat and all, but I think I'd rather have two player co-op. Play as the husband and the wife.

I have no frickin' idea why i never took the husband-wife thing into consideration when i imagined coop, that's an awesome idea!

And then have a baby that will be affected by the parent's decisions so in the end you make a nice little fuckup for the fallout world.

Why not husband-husband? Wow, Bethesda needs to check their privledge, shitlords... While I am being sarcastic, there will actually be someone who says this.

Edit: Wait, before you angrily comment, realize, I am not lampooning the request of a gay couple in game, I think that would be awesome. I am parodying people who get overly offended about what is and isn't in a game.

reddit can sometimes honestly make my brain hurt.

But the game is a fixed story, it's not necessarily your story, it's just a story you're playing. That's just the story. Why should the story change based around you as an individual? That's total bullshit.

Edit: also how the fuck would the couple be able to have a baby if it was a lesbian couple. I wish everyone would fuck off.

[–]Phuk_The_Fat_Admins 101ポイント102ポイント  (1子コメント)

I didn't see an option to create a trans racial disabled transsexual couple with war injuries. Also why is there no option to adopt a struggling 20 year old Albanian furry with autism and a hunch back?

Typical ableist game developers.

Vats and pip boy pretty much make multiplayer impossible dude.

New VATS could work like the Red Dead Redemption dead eye in online, let's you pick shots but doesn't freeze time. As for the pip-boy I'd expect something like borderlands co-op, where it just happens and doesn't freeze everyone. But no multi-player regardless.

Restrict vats to single player? Make the pip boy not pause the game?

It's possible but not probable.

To be fair Bethesda has been releasing buggy games for a lot longer than early access has been a thing. I like to think they all learned from Bethesda.

Just add hardcore mode and it is 100% perfect

Even if it did not ship with a hardcore mode, I have no doubts about a mod offering one appearing within the first week of release.

Didn't new Vegas have that? I guess this will too

It did and it was awesome for immersion. Here's hoping they scale it up a bit in 4!

It was good, although not 'hard' enough. Items were still far too easy to come by, I want food, water and ammunition to be rare commodities in my hardcore mode! :p

Yeah, that's what I meant by scaling it up. I had to invent my own rules for ammo and the amount of weapons I could (realistically) carry, for example. I hate feeling like I'm in GTA in hardcore mode haha

True, but New Vegas was also the first Fallout game to have weapon mods, and Fallout 4 has weapon mods. So I don't see why they wouldn't expand on a good idea like hardcore mode too.

EDIT: first (fully 3D) Fallout game... *

Whoa whoa. Not the first fallout game. Every other fallout game had them. In fact, the only one that didn't was Fallout 3.

Fallout 2 had a kind of weapon modification system for a quite a few weapons. Fallout 1 only had modifications for very specific weapons (and armor)

Interestingly, the style of weapon mods that New Vegas added, were rather similar to what the community had modded fallout 3 to have. This seems to be the case with 4's buildings system, also.

I'm hoping this means that AP can also be used for sprinting.

Clearly Inspired by the RTS mod for new vegas, I am too hyped for this game.

I was a bit disappointed they didn't say that it was inspired by the Real Time Settler mod, I mean, it was so OBVIOUSLY inspired by that mod. It would've been a nice gesture to the mod author and the modding community to mention it, even briefly.

That opens them up to a lawsuit, so does asking the mod creator because if they say no and you still show the footage then they have a reason to believe you got it from the mod. It's why devs often don't allow suggestion threads on forums.

Maybe a stupid question, but are they not protected from this by the games' or modding tools' terms of use?

Terms of use is not equal to a legal requirement, and their are rights you cannot sign away by agreeing with a TOS, this of course varies depending on the consumer protection laws where you live.

I jizzed at settlement building. Looks like I'm going to not been seen for weeks after it is released.

Real Time Settler, a mod for Fallout 3 & NV, was a less polished version of this. Glad to see they're paying attention to what people are trying to force into the games' engine!

Holy crap, those creature attacks look brutal. It's got me thinking if other creatures can be your companion now. Domesticated Deathclaws seem pretty handy.

    Also Jetpacks :)

There were intelligent Deathclaws in Fo2, of which one you could have as a companion. He was badass.

You could semi tame deathhclaws in F3 but it was only certain ones and for a certain missions :/

wow i am really impressed by that. I was not expecting all of those things to be included in the game. Bethesda really out did themselves

New Republic of Dave will be my settlement. I will have all the wives and I will rule fairly as president of my settlement. Of course if they disobey me I will democratically shoot them in the dick. GODAMNIT THE HYPE!!!!

It works with the game, and yes it's a second-screen experience. And usually I find second-screen experiences... they're generally just stupid gimmicks. But as far as stupid gimmicks go it's just the best fucking one I have ever seen.

    That was sufficiently hype.

Does the mean that with my iPhone and some duct tape I too can have a sufficiently inexpensive Pip-Boy on my wrist?

Wow that's awesome that it works with the game.

I'm just happy to see the MK 2 back, still holding out hope for hellfire armor to return as well.

They seem to have put a lot of effort into this. I'd be surprised if they haven't implemented every possible variant from all previous version of Fallout.

It also looks like power armor will work a very different way in FO4. It looks more like, for example, titans in titanfall, or that armor thing in that new cod game.

Doesn't look like you can wear it all the time.

Well, you could wear it all the time, but it would take a lot of effort. I'm going to assume a couple things: it actually takes effort to get into and out of it, and you actually have to power it. From the demonstration, it looks fantastic. I thought it was sort of funny how in 3/NV, you had to have special training to use power armor, but you could put it on in literally an instant, game-time.

"Oh, I'm getting attacked by raiders in my parkstroller outfit? Hold on a moment, let me bring up my giant watch and slip into something more comfortable." proceeds to take 10 minutes to get into power armor while the raiders patiently wait

He yea, i went back and looked at the UI for the power armor, you there are 4 dials, HP, RADS, CORE and AP% as well as two displays, an unlabeled one under CORE and an AMMO display inside the AP%.

I'd guess core is electricity/power, not sure about AP%

Edit: The board of wise men has assembled for a meeting, and in its resolve they agreed that AP% is Action Points, which is used in VATS.

Something about having a dog in the Fallout Universe is always just so awesome...

    I shall name her "Lydia".

Seriously, I hope they've done companions right, because there's a fine line between helpful and annoying.

Also townspeople. I have no reason to believe they'll be better this time around, but I hope they're not like in Skyrim: constantly spouting exposition over and over whether you ask for it or not. For some characters, thats fine (like proselytizing whack jobs), but people just standing around shouting what their job is and who their relatives are is utterly retarded.

I yelled out loud with glee when I saw V.A.T.S. That was the biggest thing I was worried about. So glad it's going to be in FO4, easily my favorite thing about 3 and NV.

I think they are going in the right direction with the attacker still moving slightly in VATS this time around.

Yeah all the gunplay and combat looked faster paced this time around, which is great because I know several folks who couldn't get into the previous iterations (3 and NV) because they thought they played too slow.

It also seems like the mechanics are more polished and more like a FPS which is probably why they did it.

I actually avoided using V.A.T.S. most of the time in 3 and New Vegas because it slowed down the combat so much, even though it would have been a better option at times.

I had never played a FO game before I got FO3, and I finally got to a part where I needed a walkthrough to teach me how to kill something. I simply couldn't kill it. Then I saw them using VATS in the video and I was like "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!?"

As long as they get rid of the annoying bug from 3 and NV, where it sometimes took up to 10 seconds before you could actually click on body parts after opening VATS. That would just be evil otherwise.

while i do agree, this makes deathclaws just a little bit harder.

Especially now that they burrow out of the fucking ground.

Better keep the Fat Man out just in case.

And I'll bet some skill or other will slow down time further as you level up.

I am glad that it doesn't completely freeze combat.

Why wouldn't it have been in Fallout 4?

It was in Fallout 1 & 2, although not called VATS the concept was the same.

And it was in 3 & NV.

It was already guaranteed to be in 4

Right off the bat, it looks like a major artistic achievement.

I would be perfectly okay with them forgetting to include Cazadors

At least there will be that one small part of the map that will remain a mystery because I'm never going to go near them.

I always found them quite easy, have tons of antiposions on you because... they're cheap and useful. Get out an automatic weapon and just wait for it to get close, vats and shoot the wings off. Then finish it on the floor.

      Easy peasy.

Cazadors were a cinch unless you tried to go North immediately after leave Doc Mitchell's House in Goodsprings. Once you get some unique weapons you're cookin' with gas (especially if you get the flamethrower or shishkebab :P).

Because the game explicitly warns you not to go North, it's probably a safe bet that a big chunk of players tried to go North - and learnt why they shouldn't have very quickly.

      "Don't go North"

"FUCK YOU GAME IMMA GO NORTH YOU DONT CONTROL ME"

God that fucking mosquito made me cringe. So damned terrifying.

Pretty sure Cazadors are insects from the Mojave wasteland. This game takes place on the east coast so you should be fine.

'You do survive and get into the vault'

So your wife and child are dead basicly

They did say that they make a baby based on your characters looks - that seems like a lot of work for a baby that's killed off after like 5 minutes screen time. I have a feeling at least the child lives... somehow...

My theory is that the kid comes out of cryo earlier than you do and grows up to be about your age when you come out. Then he turns out to be the big baddie of the game.

So when you're playing, watch out for characters that look like you. Give your character a really stupid face, that ought to make it easier.

Damn you are so onto Bethesda that I feel like you've already spoiled the best part of the story for me. Good job though

Fallout 3: Find the man who helped to give you life.

New Vegas: Find the man who tried to end your life.

Fallout 4: Find the child to whom you gave life.

Next game: Hunt the guy you thought you killed?

      Fallout 5: Hunt yourself

So we should just make them look like OPs mom?

Kid napped. Omfg. They recasted Liam Neeson as your character, even if you're female, and it's not really Fallout 4, it's Taken 4.

They make a big fuss about designing your baby for you, so I'm gonna say that you meet the little tyke somewhere in the Wasteland.

My money is on him growing up with the Enclave and being the villain!

I was pretty much expecting that, and then he said that he didn't want to spoil the story....which pretty much spoiled the story.

So what you're saying is that the first hour of gameplay is going to consist of me anxiously sculpting that perfect character face? Got it.

Only to end up equiping a helmet, and never seeing that face again.

Nukes in the fallout universe are very weak though. It isn't surprising they survived somehow.

It looks like they're standing on the entrance platform as the compression wave approaches. I would bet it, in true Hollywood fashion, lowers just enough just in time to keep them from getting caught up in it.

I don't know what the gamma rays are like at that distance, but the heat should be a ways behind the first wave, I think.

Anyway, Fallout is also thoroughly Weird Science. :P

So, they pre-recorded around 1,000 names. DOES THIS MEAN I CAN BE GARY!? Because if so I'm totally going to play a game where I make settlements and fill them exclusively with people called Gary, and I shall be King Gary, Lord of the Wastes.

I loved the one dude in the audience that just shouts "BEARD!" during character creation.

Looks like the Deathclaws now have a finishing move animation, and those giant mosquitoes actually attached to you while attacking. That, with the snappier gunplay, I'm going to feel more involved in combat I think.

It's so strange to have the main character speak. I'm hoping all of the dialogue isn't cutscene-like.

They said you can do it first person

Not only that but they said it was dynamic in that during any point you could literally walk away, change camera angles or just blast the person you're talking to in the face. I'm sure there will be some unskipable stuff and probably a few cut scenes but that doesn't sound to bad.

Hearing him say that it was dynamic and could be done in first person was a huge relief to me. One of the things I love the most about Bethesda's RPGs is that I actually get the freedom to play the game. I'm not forced to sit through one cutscene after another. I'm having a hard time playing The Witcher 3 right now because the game forces me into a cutscene literally every single time I have to interact with another character. Feels like every 10 minutes, I'm thrown into another cutscene. It just breaks any immersion I may have had going.

Well, that's kind of a staple of CRPGs. The way the Witcher 3 does it is the "modern" version of reading through walls of text in older games.

I mean, you get great voice acting and animations in the Witcher 3, so there's not much to complain about IMO.

Speaking of voice acting and RPGs.. I'll bet all my money that the guy voicing the sales guy is the guy who voiced the books scattered around in Diablo 1. All I hear is "Glory and approbation to Diablo, lord of terror and leader of the three.. "

I'm not really sure what you're talking about.

Bethesda games have run worse and looked worse than just about any other game on the market when they come out.

They're also famous for being very buggy and having bad animations. In fact one of the major complaints against Bethesda games is that they leave the polishing to the modders, rather than doing it themselves.

They actually wait and work on their game for the best-possible experience on whichever platform.

And this is definitely not one of their goals. I mean, every game past Morrowind has had a UI that was designed around a controller, hell the Skyrim UI doesn't even work half the time when you use a mouse. And Skyrim players on the PC had to use the same low res textures as the then ~5-6 year old consoles, until three months after release. Not to mention how Skyrim crashes more often than just about any other mainstream game, and this happens on every platform.

Bethesda is pretty well known for the literal opposite of what you are saying.

Fallout 3 and Fallout:NV crash way more than Skyrim on PC. Although, I've never had an issue with using the UI with a mouse in any game.

"Of course you can play as a female" - loud cheering... uh what have these people never played a Fallout game before?

it was rumored that you would be locked in as a male character.

Wasn't it that it was rumored that you could change your sex but only after the main quest?

People making assumptions simply based on seeing a character in the original teaser.

That wasn't the reason at all. There was a rumour from a now debunked leak.

Actually it was someone who posted a thread claiming they were a former bethesda employee and "leaked" information out spite for getting fired for leaking info.

it might have to do with that rumour that went around earlier that you could only play as a male character. Or maybe they're just cheering at everything

"Now we're not going to spoil the game, but you do get lowered into the vault and survive." Whew... for a second I thought it's going to be a 15 minute game with some jogging and nasty salesmen.

One or two others use the sculpting method as well, but they're not coming to the top of my head right now...

I don't know if I'm a fan of the new dialogue choice setup.

That, and the MC being voiced.

Seems like it will make for limited dialog choices if you have a max of 4 things, or you will have to step through extra layers for people with lots of options like quest givers.

If the Witcher 3 is anything to go by then it can be done and extremely well at that.

I doubt it, games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age not only have voice support for every branching path you could take, but they have support for every single line it in multiple voices and genders.

Just because you have 4 options doesn't mean it's limited, because it can all branch and fake-branch.

        Fallout can absolutely do that.

I am going to make a settlement. I will rebuild an entire neighborhood. I will surround the settlement with walls (if possible) Then with lights, and turrets. In my backward is where the power comes from. I will allow people to live there. I will then name the settlement.... Woodbury.

I'm a bit worried with the way they have handled dialogue in this game. I hope it hasn't gone down the same route Mass Effect did where they give very braud out of context summary's of what your character will say. I don't want to be asking someone politely if I could have some free water and my character ending up pulling a knife out on the person and saying he will slit his throat.

Also hope 4 dialogue choices isn't the limit. Also would love if they gave an option to use the old classic way of displaying Dialogue.

Do want you want with your money, you don't need to follow everyone else

I wouldn't bet it's about "following everyone else", just intellect vs. impulse.

I am in genuine agreement with the arguments as to why pre-ordering has a terrible effect on the industry, and I feel morally obligated to not do it—to refrain from taking part in encouraging the practice to continue.

Yet the temptation is there. Not even because of associated in-game bonuses, but because there's that impulse to throw money at things you feel enthusiastic about.

I love Bethesda games. been playing them since Morrowind, and I'm super excited for this.

That being said, those faces look derpy as fuck after a few weeks of The Witcher 3.
