wafflesrawsome asked: *reads FAQ* *reads the part "where girls are taught not to get raped, but boys aren't taught to not rape"* YEAH BECAUSE RAPE ISN'T AN INCREDIBLY ABHORRED CRIME IN THE 1ST WORLD! Seriously, since when is teaching young girls about self defense a bad thing? You could also say that "oh, well don't teach people to lock their doors when they leave, teach BURGLARS NOT TO STEAL" and you would still be using the same logic. Boys ARE taught to not rape, but there will always be people doing it.
We do teach people not to steal. We teach them that from infancy and we also give people a fairly comprehensive idea about what stealing is. If you think that everybody knows what rape is and that it is bad then why are there so many cases where people don’t even believe they have committed rape?
Why do whole towns, like in the case of Steubenville, fell sorry for the rapists and turn on the girl who was the victim? Don’t hand me this fetid bullshit about consent education being unnecessary when people can’t even clearly define what rape is and added “ my belief that this issue of rape and rape culture should be addressed in more than a single way”, read it again jackass.
I have never suggested that people cannot do whatever they can to protect themselves, that they cannot take self defense classes. I said why should WE be learning how to avoid being raped while NO ONE is teaching people not to rape.
Also, your argument “teach people not to look their doors! haha!” is ridiculous and no one ever says that bullshit. For starters self defense lessons are not a lock, you know what is the lock in your shitty metaphor that reduces women to objects? Our legs.
You have to force them open, you have to drug us, you have to threaten us to open them ourselves. The fact you would use this metaphor seems to suggest that you think we are “open” and “unlocked” unless we learn self defense. Which says a shitload about you.
And you want to compare this bullshit comparison between theft and rape? If I went to report my theft and sheepishly told the officers I had left my door unlocked or that I didn’t have bars on my windows and that they broke in that way, they would still deem it a crime. They will still pursue my case and try and recover my items. They wouldn’t ask me questions about how my house looked, did it look like it was looking to get robbed? Maybe my house shouldn’t have been so provocative.
If the person who stole from me was caught he couldn’t claim, as a defense, that the desire to commit the crime was a defense of the crime. You would never hear of a case where police officers supported the thief and told him that it’s ok, it was probably just a misunderstanding since my doors were unlocked and I was being too dramatic about this.
I wouldn’t have people reciting false theft accusations at me and I sure as hell wouldn’t have half baked apologists messaging me to tell me why stealing from me is actually ok.
Even though your metaphor sucks (because seriously, we’re not fucking objects you illogical trainwreck) it can still be used to show how absolutely ridiculous and toxic your point of view is.
So, in summary: Stop being a rape apologist and kindly go fuck yourself.
Does waffles honestly think they are making a point? This is the same bullshit point that’s been made and refuted...
THIS. A THOUSAND TIMES THIS.
