I just want to plug http://voat.co[1] here. Im not affiliated to it, aside from the fact that I use the site. Its a content aggregator which doesnt censor as long as its legal in switzerland. Its really slow at the moment due to capacity problems since lots of people seem to already be moving over. But Features include link / text posts, threaded comments, anonymous subreddits (username replaced by random numbers, no voting), chat in sidebar, and more

        Yup, saw the thread on /r/trueloseit. Man, I just found out about reddit like, I dunno, last week or something?

        How bad was the "fat people hate" subreddit? I thought fatlogic was very good, although there are always some people who are "mean" for no reason, they generally were pointing out the logic, rather than just making fun of fat people, heck, I was obese when I started reading it, the hard truths helped me lose about 7 lbs in the last week and a half, kept me being strict with myself.

        It was funny, i went there every day. But the social justice warriors on subs like subreddit drama and shit reddit says decided they didn't like being mocked, so they did their best to cry as much as possible about it. Look at this screen shot before it was banned, all of those gray boxes on the right next to each thread is the number of times the thread was reported LOL. These people really are insane.

        Yeah, they're nuts. Losing weight isn't really even all that hard. I just bought a bunch of bulk canned fish, bulk beans and lentils, bulk spinach and eggs, that's pretty much all I eat, and the thing is, I save time because hell I get really full off of that stuff without having to like go get something to eat all the time, or you know rummaging through the fridge because I'm not satiated, and I'm saving a shit pile of money because it's pretty cheap.

        Also turns out, my dog loves running, and I realized I don't really need tennis lessons to get better, I just need to be not as fucking fat. For whatever reason I kept thinking I'm not as good as I was in high school because of massive skill deterioration, I've realized that you just aren't the same athlete at 220 27% body fat as you are at like 180-185 and 10-12% bf, lol. Who would have guessed? I think the most surprising thing is just how much I've lied to myself over the last 10 years of my life. "you're fit, it's all muscle, you're an elite athlete, just out of practice" etc. etc. etc. All lies. Just been lying to myself non-stop. It took literally one day of reading reddit lazily on a Sunday afternoon to realize I wasn't working out hard, I was eating like shit, and conditioning was my biggest problem on a tennis court, not technique. So glad I found reddit.

        Of course, the moment it was gone, we all decided to play rough.

        The funny thing is that I pretty much just came to reddit because I had a checkup, doctor said, "hey you're obese, bloodwork is fine, but it won't be for long if you don't lose weight" so I looked around the internet for help, and reddit seemed like it had a bunch of good info on the FAQs, plus it was super active, so I just came here.

        I hadn't seen a single thing that really seemed "hateful" of fat people, and I was frequenting fatlogic.

        What I did get was a ton of help, helpful PMs etc., created an eating program and minimal workout program, and I've been able to maintain about 1000-1500 calories of deficit every day since like last Monday, and have already dropped below an "obese" BMI. I always thought the BMI stuff was stupid because "I'm so muscular" but at my checkup the doc did a DEXA or something skan, said I had 27% bf and was definitely not "so muscular" lol. If you're a regular Joe, I think the BMI is a pretty damned good indicator if you're fat or not, and I think I'm still pretty damned fat, even though I'm not "obese" now that I have scale that supposedly reads body fat percentage, I'm still obese by bf%, so I have a ways to go.

        Wow, I'm rambling, I guess the point is that I don't understand how someone could find reddit "hateful" towards fat people when literally every person except for one that I came across has been really helpful on sending me down a good path.

                I've been somewhat active in /r/fatpeoplehate in the last months. Before, I didn't know about it, and yesterday - before it was banned (Big coincidence.) - I decided to unsubscribe because I just couldn't take all the fat-horror any longer that was present quite massively on my frontpage, all those images and stories of enabling.

                I, too, have not seen any attempt to brigade in other places, or to follow users or people around. What I suspect, though, is that meme-reactions like "Found the fattie." were carried over by users, and those breadcrumbs lead the relevant people to assume that the subreddit was a source for imbalance on the reddit system. This might even be a correct determination of that subreddit's effects.

                I'm not speaking out against that subreddit at all, and I'm not saying that it was right to ban it. I'm just giving a perspective that might be helpful in intellectually digesting this whole thing.

                EDIT: I just got linked to a comment that says the main reasons is that FPH

                got details of the imgur staff and put them in the sidebar for the users to attack imgur staff with.

                      Digg went corporate. It put the needs of corporations/partners before the needs of their users.

                      Reddit has been heading in the same direction for a while. It is still a good way away from where Digg where when it went downhill, but they are constantly sliding from the free and open community platform it started as towards a vanilla and sanitized walled garden. I'm guessing subreddits who mostly link to IP-infringing content will start being shut down in the not to distant future, stuff like /r/soccerstreams and even /r/panelshow. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the hardcore porn subreddits starts being closed down as well.

                      I left Digg for Reddit at what feel about the same point as Reddit is at now, but I just haven't found a replacement to Reddit yet. HackerNews is ok, but it doesn't have the breadth of content.

                          It never really has been that way. fucks sake, those pictures of "jailbait" weren't even illegal per se. yet they banned that one, along with a bunch of other related porno type reddits.

                          Digg had lots of people leave when people got sick of it. More and more people are getting sick of Reddit, and people are getting sick of Reddit to the point that they are truly starting to want to leave it.

                                  I was on reddit before I knew about digg (7 years ago), then I was back and forth between the 2 for a while, then one day everyone from digg was over here and it dominated reddit for weeks. A lot of people are saying that is very like what is happening here now but now the loser is reddit, and it does have that vibe to it.It's long time since reddit was the place that made it great, looks like this is just another nail in the coffin of an in-decline website. It will carry on for years, especially if they monetize it.

                                  I think if you have someone like Pao, and I'm sure she is the most wonderful person, but if you have someone who is so disliked by the users, a very polarising figure with a controversial past then maybe that person isn't right for the position of CEO.
