If you truly are a renter and you need assistance with a legal issue or clarification of your rights, please go to another subreddit like r/legaladvice for help.

Also, I was banned for those comments.

Technically, wouldn't you have been evicted from the sub? I will now be evicted without notice from the sub for making this comment: the muppet Mod responded to a bot like it was an employee at a drive-thru window. LoLz all around!!

[–]FancyNewAccountGoose Hollow 42

I made this for the lolz: /r/HomeownersRightsPDX/ Come post something!

not a homeowner but still subscribing (trying to buy a house)

Dude is obviously trolling, so just ignore him and he will eventually get bored. Remember his comments that if a drunk cyclist caused an accident, the driver was still at fault? Top notch trolling since day one.

[–]Discord_DancingBuckman 9ポイント10ポイント  (33子コメント)

You do realize that this is just a troll, right?

Yeah, I get it. Go through some of the posts outside of his own, though. He has pushed his subreddit as some kind of resource and now people who need help are seeking advice from this moron.

Most of us who frequent r/portland may understand this, but those who have came to reddit for advice about real problems are mistaking his thread for legitimate advice.

I actually visited the sub when it was linked from a relevant discussion here, had no idea it was a troll

I didn't either, but I didn't really investigate. I just thought it was a new thing people were doing.

[–]neil_before_scrodd 30ポイント31ポイント  (21子コメント)

This seems to be trolling powered by a flareup mental illness or something. Jesus, he's spamming comments sections at WWeek and asking /r/urbanplanning to "collaborate" with him. The whole sub is him commenting on threads he started, and barking about draconian posting rules and directing all not-him comments to his agenda of amalgamating renters into an unstoppable force that will grasp control of Portland.

Wow. It's like watching a gruesome car accident. It's like going to /r/spacedicks - you shouldn't but do anyway.

I'm not up-to-date on this and have gone there for advice; can you please ELI5?

[–]Discord_DancingBuckman 6ポイント7ポイント  (0子コメント)

I'm no expert, nor do I know anything that anyone else does not, but the behavior of the moderator of that subreddit is beyond ridiculous and I can only assume he's a troll.

His account is 15 days old, and /r/portland has some very vigilant trolls - all of which we have very successfully gotten rid of with use of automod.

That guy needs to buy a house.

please go to another subreddit like r/legaladvice for help.

Or, how about going to an actual lawyer instead of asking advice of random armchair "lawyers" on the internet?

/r/legaladvice is a great resource. Treat it like Wikipedia: A good place to start.

You're not supposed to follow the advice of that sub in a courtroom. You're supposed to use it to figure out what kind of lawyer to hire.

Sort of like how most professors will slap you silly if your Works Cited contains "Wikipedia".

Good analogy. I'm not convinced that everyone in that subreddit (and this one, for that matter) understands that.

there are actual lawyers on the thread. but it can help narrow down things or help people with simple questions. Also people should NEVER EVER EVER take any advice on the internet or blog as a substitute for professional advice. Common sense 101.

Also people should NEVER EVER EVER take any advice on the internet or blog as a substitute for professional advice. Common sense 101.

And yet, that subreddit is rife with folks taking advice in lieu of professional advice.

yep,.. teaching my daughter that the internet is a tool not an oracle

Good work! The lack of media literacy is astounding, although we are totally immersed in it.

because lawyers cost lotsa money?

In Oregon, there are lawyers who will meet with you for a half-hour for a minimal cost. You have to contact the BAR (or look on their website for a list of applicable lawyers). I recall it either being free or very cheap the one time I had to do it.

Just a heads up.

You know what else costs lotsa money? Lawsuits because you did something stupid that an armchair "lawyer" told you to do.

I got banned from there without even posting.

That guy is a turd.

Edit: also he called epicrepairtime a troll and he is a certified responsible postertm

I really have a problem with this thread because of its misleading nature. It's one thing to advocate for the rights of renters, but it is another thing to present yourself as some sort of resource for renters seeking recourse. People are posting to this thread with actual issues under the assumption they can find help, when in reality they are being force fed an agenda and told to "unite with other renters."

DO NOT TAKE LEGAL ADVICE FROM r/renterrightsPDX

Wow. Thank you for my entertainment for the night! I had no idea this existed.

This one and /r/Dreadfort (for those GoT types) are two of my favorites. Getting banned from /r/Pyongyang is like getting banned from Club Penguin. In fact there is a /r/BannedFromClubPenguin. The Internet is neat.

Please tell me: is /r/Pyongyang serious?

Edit: and how come it says there are 13 comments on a post, but I can only see one?

Because 12 comments got deleted. I would assume it's serious because mods there seem very consistent.

There were no [deleted]s. The other comments simply didn't exist. No placeholders, just one lonely comment. http://www.reddit.com/r/Pyongyang/comments/36suuh/s_korean_puppet_regimes_sycophancy_towards/

Guess I should make a comment to test...

Everyone is being trolled by /u/YIMBY_PDX - The person behind the account is a regular troll under numerous pseudonyms for the past 3-4 years. He'll give up soon enough.

"Please poison your argument by loudly assuming a perceived hostility."

You might as well be required to say, "I'm not racist, but..." before every statement.

This. Mod requires you to preface your dissenting opinion with a phrase that for many will cause their shields to go up and TL;DR the comment. How's about we give folks credit for being smart enough to figure things out on their own?

I'm not racist, but I really love the overcast clouds today.

You should totally buy a house now, just to piss that guy off.

I'm going to rent that bitch out at SF rates, too.

    To people moving from SF!

I'm a real estate broker, anyone looking to buy or sell a house? /s (maybe)

I hope you really are, because this is the best approach from a seller I've ever seen; username, topic, timing.

If I was ready to be in the market I would buy from you.

    Awesome.

Thank you. I was sure this was going to be a message banning me for upsetting someone's tender sensibilities.

Do you think this has something to do with that carjacking/meth explosion from earlier? It's so absurd and agressive. Like Clear Channel meets Fred Armisen.

Ah yes, the old "If you don't toe the party line, you will be purged" routine.

Seems like we've seen that before: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Purge

people like /u/thatshallnotbenamed assume a self imposed moral high ground justifies any action they wish to take. They complain that their voice is not heard but then want to squash any decent in their own self created forum. maybe should the /r/renterrights should be renamed /r/desparatecryforattention

Why did you link to a bunch of subreddits that don't exist and a user who hasn't posted in two years and has a total of 10 karma?
