Announcement: Photo of the Month Prizes!
I’m very excited to announce that there will now be a prize each month for the winner of our Photo of the Month contest!
Not only will the winner’s photo be featured in our Photo of the Month Gallery (a sort of best of the best, hall of fame!), and promoted through our social media profiles, but as a winner you’ll also receive a package of hair goodies.
We have a range of stuff to give away like hair colour from Pravana, Special Effects, Directions, Crazy Color, Stargazer, Manic Panic and Adore and we’re also throwing in dyeing accessories, styling products, colour remover and more!
How to Enter
It’s easy, just upload your latest hair photo here. Each month we choose our favourite image as the winner.
Tips for a Winning Photo
Take a look through our Photo of the Month winner’s gallery to see what kind of photos we choose.
You’ll notice these photos have a lot in common. Stick to these guidelines and you’ll increase your chances of being chosen.
- Have amazing hair (of course!)
We’re interested in unusual dyeing techniques, hairstyles, and great colour combinations. You don’t have to have multicoloured hair either, one colour done perfectly works just as well! - Use a quality camera
I’ll often see a potential Photo of the Month winning photo, but it’s been taken on a phone in low-light giving a grainy or blurred appearance so I have to rule it out. We want to showcase the winning image, so it needs to be sharp and high resolution. If your phone can’t take photos that are good enough to print, try taking your photos on a camera. - Photo styling
This is optional, but putting some artistic flair into your images can work really well. Look at the timelines of MiezeMia, Sinnie, SophieCharlotte for inspiration.
This is entirely optional for your photos, but can add a nice touch to them.
Some other best practices are:
- Use good lighting
Try to take your photo outside or near a window. Artificial light from lightbulbs and fluorescent tubes usually don’t give a true representation of colour. Most cameras perform best in daylight. - Avoid busy backgrounds
Keep the background of your image simple so that the viewer is drawn to you rather than what’s going on behind. - Show your face
Your hair may look great from behind, but we’re looking for portraits. Likewise a photo where you’re obscuring your face usually doesn’t work either.
Absolute No-Nos – We remove these photos
- Copyright infringement
We will not tolerate copyright infringement. Usually, if you didn’t take the photo, it’s not yours. If you’ve used a professional photographer check that you have the rights to your photos before uploading them. - Photoshopped images
Don’t try and mislead the viewer. A small white balance tweak or removing a zit won’t do any harm but we can tell if you mess around with the levels or completely smooth out your skin. - No borders, writing, image styles or filters
We want unadulterated photos that show the true colour, so filters are not acceptable. Borders interfere with the overall style of the site so we remove images with these too.
Prizes are chosen from our prize-fund goodybag and we’ll endeavour to give you a selection of colours and other items. However, we won’t be able accept requests for specific items. It’s not possible to offer refunds or replacements for any damaged or lost items in transit but we’ll do our utmost to package your prize up as carefully as possible.
For winners outside of the EU, please check your local customs regulation about potential fees and prohibited items.
We’ll be in touch via the private message function of the site if you’re a winner and will need you to respond within 6 weeks with your real name and full address so we can send your goodies.
Happy hair dyeing!
