For the confused, OP's attempt from last year , and the picture he took

Glad it worked out better this time around!

I remember this! Nice job /r/oman!

I heard there was a big mix up with the roman meet up. I'm glad they got it sorted out this year.

Oman, I remember that now!

The one on the far right had some sort of horrible realisation just as the picture was taken.

You're always wearing a dishdasha - are you perhaps concealing a massive penis?

This map is bullshit.

Nah, Denmark is clearly shown as bigger than Sweden, and that's clearly right. Everything else is unimportant.

The Russians, Chinese and Americans all got small penises? Now everything makes sense!

You look like typical guys you would find in any U.S. town. Sometimes the world can seem like such a small place.

It's genuinely a lovely place. I was born there and to this day the nicest people I've had the opportunity to know have been from Oman. And it's not that far a culture from the west as you'd think (I live in the UK now)... man I miss that place.

sandals though

Too hot for shoes

Are those your regular clothes or did you dress up for the event? I brought the same hat back from Jordan, love it.

Regular clothes.

If I wore that much white, the first thing i would do is spill something on it.

What is the meaning of those clothes? Do people treat you differently because of them at all?

It's just our traditional clothes. We wear them everywhere so they're considered as formal and casual

Those clothes are a beautiful ancient tradition still commonly perpetuated to this day. As you make your way into the town square dressed in that garb you choose your midget by the fountain and cover it quickly. Safely tucked in between the legs your midget of choice will discretely fondle your scrotal area while you stroll the marketplace. The midget also doubles as a wallet holder considering the pockets are just holes.

It's a very practical piece of clothing.

Is it a culture difference that you're wearing those clothes while the rest are wearing what the west (or whatever. I don't know how to be sensitive about this) would consider normal clothes?

We're from different countries. me and one guy are the only Omanis in the photo.

Speaking as an Arab, it's pretty much just what you're comfortable in. Some people are comfortable in shorts and a t shirt (like me), and some are more comfortable in traditional wear.

OP's clothes are lookin pretty ballin' though.

EDIT: you would be surprised just how comfortable clothes like OP's are in the heat though. That shit is like a mini air conditioner for your body.

The death stare on the right though :D

Well at least it grew 600% over a year, not bad. Maybe you'll have 36 next year.

Oh MAN, it was a lot of fun.

Yemen, it sure was.

You even convinced Omani Jeff Goldblum to hold your sign.

I cannot believe it, I thought the Jeff Goldblum comparisons were a thing of the past now.

Jurassic World is in theaters. It's a perfect time to bring up Jeff Goldblum.

You can tell they're redditors because there's not a single wOman.

Was this dangerous at all? Or is Oman relatively cool about websites like reddit?

Nebraskan here. My dorm roommates and neighbors are from Oman. They're cool as fuck, really open to different cultures, and are the most friendly people you'll ever meet.

So. Much. Food.

The gulf countries are very stable and are very open minded (with the exception of Saudi, it's even a running joke in the other gulf countries). I have never for once feared for my life, even in the darkest of alleyways surrounded by strangers and that is the same feeling everyone I know have.

If you wanted to suggest one gulf country to visit for a couple of 30 year olds (my g/f and I).. which one would it be? This is a serious questions as we are currently traveling around the world

I may seem biased but I definitely suggest Oman. Tons of beautiful beaches (Sur beach), Wadi's or valleys (Wadi Shab), deserts, mosques, and forts.

Also it's a driving distance from UAE if you'd like to go to Dubai.

As a guy with a security clearance, I think my employer wouldn't like this vacation as much as I would.

That's all gorgeous!

I visited Oman last year as an 18 yo white American f. Very safe. Omanis are very friendly and gentle people. It is actually illegal to insult someone. Be sure to check out Wadi Shab -- the red bull cliff diving World Series was held there a couple of years ago and it is glorious

Pretty much all the Gulf countries are really safe. Avoid Yemen and some parts of Egypt (Sinai was mentioned already) and obviously Iraq for the moment.

As always when traveling, respect local laws, but they are very safe countries and generally fairly welcoming to Americans.

I've lived in Oman for 14 years as an expat and it is one of the best places in the Middle East. People are great, food's great, and there's peace in general.

Surprisingly good looking group of guys for a Reddit meet up

And no boobs :) ...... :(

It's much more of a :) given our history with meetups.

This is the only Reddit meetup image I've seen where I wouldn't feel embarrassed to be part of it

The information age is awesome. A hundred years ago, you and I would both live and die without ever knowing the other existed.

We did, thanks!

Y'all in Muscat? I made the drive down from Dubai once. Beautiful place.

You make a good point. This is potenitally the best looking group of people that ever had a reddit meetup.

Normally there are several people who drop the average drastically.

I'm glad you guys were able to do this! It's always a fun experience getting to meet online buddies. I feel kind of jealous now! =)

I remember how disappointed you were last year! Glad to see you in much better spirits this time!

Saw this comment while scrolling down and it made me spit out Vienna sausage. Had to come upvote and tell you every little detail about it. See ya around, I'm sure.

At home, on reddit.

^ I, a female currently in Oman, was indeed at home on reddit...

[–]Alabaster_Sugarfoot 39ポイント40ポイント  (13子コメント)

Right? I mean, where is this, the middle east?

I hope you didn't share your usernames with each other.

/r/Oman has the awesome lids.

Nice! I just went back and looked at my comment from your thread from last year... time flies.

That was a classic! I'm not really a fan of your new stuff though. You've sold out.

Btw it's the same piece of paper from last year.

Oman seems to have top-notch dental care.

Nice, Robb Stark came as well.

Dang. People look more normal than any other Reddit meetup pics I've seen.

Hope you had a good time! Greetings from /r/Detroit!

Thank you we did, hope your meetup is/was a success.

Detroit's meetups are always awesome! Ours is going on for another sevral hours yet, so I'm sure it's gonna be a great time!

Do you guys engage in bullet dodging activities over at /r/detroit?

So, what did you guys do? What did you talk about? For some reason I imagine reddit meetups as a few socially inept guys looking at each other in an awkward silence.

Oh man, nice meetup.

I just love this photo. Glad to see that /r/oman meetup was successful this time, the look of disappointment on ops face from the last one was so sad.

Ballin clothes too, bet that is comfy when it is hot as fuck outside.

The most normal looking Reddit meetup to date

Oman was one of the nicest places I have ever been. The people I met were extremely generous to me. Salalah (sp?) with their beaches we're beautiful. I loved that place.

NICE !! I lived near Salalah for about a year. I love Oman and Omani's ! I've been all over the world, and that place is my favorite !

Oman was a pretty nice place in 2004 when I visited. The King was obsessed with "Omaniazation" or having citizens learn trades and skills, instead of buying everything (a la Saudi Arabia). He was convinced that the Oil wouldn't last forever and his people should be able to live in a modern civilized society. Of course they still outlawed booze and modern women's clothes (except in the hotels and private parties - some attended by royalty!) and, If I remember correctly, one of the kings nieces or nephews became ill after eating at some burger joint, so the next day the king had all the franchises closed, and they were still closed a few years later while we were there... but yeah, still a pretty nice place, and very nice people (in contrast to Saudi, or Bahrain, or a few other places where Arabs kinda look down their noses at everyone else but other Arabs) I'd actually go so far as to say the Arab people in Oman were as friendly and hospitable as the Persians in Iran (Persians are as friendly as Greeks, and the older Persian women have the same desire to feed everyone in their house).

It's the 6man meetup!

Damn time flies by, i remember your post last year. Glad they showed up this time.

There's dozens of y.... Nevermind.

At least there was a increase in attendance of 500%.

is that jeff goldblum on the left

Yes I get that a lot.

Let's hope the same faces are there next year...

Hopefully Ashobaa didn't cause any issues?

Haha, it actually helped to make the weather a bit cooler.
It caused some damage in Sharqiya region though

This makes me happy!

BUT ARE THEY GOOD WITH COMPUTER?OMAN I AM NOT GOOD WITH COMPUTER PLS TO HELP

Oman's got some nice teeth going on.

[–]Kerotido [

I hope you had fun! At least you really seem healthy people (not like other meetups...)

Pro tip: When you think Oman think rich gulf Arabs, don't think Yemen.

This brought a nice smile to my face. Nice one.
