Honestly though, that's pretty much how I exactly pictured Ryu's moveset to be, can't wait.

Edit: Fortunately, it's only 1 extra counter we get! Ryu's down-b is his Focus Attack.

That looks like a focus attack, a chargeable move with super armor. Not necessarily a traditional counter.

In Crusade it's a charge up punch attack that has like black animations, something like that and it looks similar to a Focus Attack from SF4, either way I hope Ryu's down-b is a Focus Attack; that would be much better.

Yeah, that sounds like a focus attack. You can see the black ink effect in the Ryu classic mode video. It's technically possible that they made it work like a counter but my guess is it works the same as in SF.

It's his Focus Attack. It absorbs damage and then when you release the attack he strikes the opponent and would put them in a crumple state, at least in SF4.

If its anything like that in Sm4sh, I imagine you would hold down B, be able to absorb an attack or a few, and then you would let go of down B to unleash the attack. It would either be a kill move, or put your opponent in a knockdown state which could set up into a kill. I think thats how it would work, but who knows

I don't actually hate counters, it's just I don't like that there are so many of them, they are satisfying if you manage to counter a strong move like Falcon's sweetspotted knee. Sadly, one match my knee got countered and I can say I was pretty salty.

I know Roy is probably still a clone, but you can't judge uniqueness off of specials. Lucas wasn't even a clone in Brawl it was just his specials and some attributes.

I know we already figured this out that Ryu's D-special is most likely his Focus Attack, but I just wanna solidify the idea by saying that the picture of his D-special doesn't have a "heartrate monitor" effect like most counters show in their Special Move pictures (Such as Roy's counter in the same set of photos). So it's either an extremely specially-designed counter, or a legitimate focus attack.
