It's easy to do, and easy to bypass. I thought about doing it several times before.

But how many people would bother bypassing it? At least give it a shot?

[–]AraygLibertarian Socialist [

Agreed. People will less likely bypass it, unless they are extremely passionately against the comment.

It's not like bypassing it is very hard. You just click on the comment and press Z.

Unless there's a way to bypass that as well?

Can you not just untick 'use subreddit style'?

That's a RES feature. Non RES users can go into their prefs and disable custom styles for the whole site though.

There will be, but I did this in 2 minutes, I can come up with something to make it harder, but there will always be a way to bypass it because the CSS can't override reddit's code.

[–]Ivashkinpanem et circenses [

The only thing you can do is change the CSS to hide or disable the voting, as we do for non-subscribers. And to bypass that all you need to do is disable the CSS.

I never even noticed that option there before... it works on AMA, while it doesn't remove downvoting it limits it significantly.

[–]Projectmayhem666UKIP Defence Force[S] [

It's two lines of code, just done it on /r/votingreform

[–]Lanfeix [

custom css dosent work on moblie and RES users can disable it.

[–]johnmedglaAbhors Sarcasm [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Everyone can disable it from the account settings menu, RES just makes the option more obvious.

[–]usrname42Kendall Mint Labour [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

But what harm could it do?

[–]Projectmayhem666UKIP Defence Force[S] [

It's not easy to bypass for most people.

[–]Ivashkinpanem et circenses [

It's piss easy. In RES there is a button that does it for you.

[–]Projectmayhem666UKIP Defence Force[S] [

I know it's easy, but to the majority of computer illiterate people it isn't.

This post has been 55% upvoted at this time - case and point being made?

It's a good way of wheedling out links to biased sources and general nonsense.

I say keep it.

[–]StonedPhysicistdemocratic socialism on proportionally-represented stilts [

Not much point. All you'd have to do is uncheck "Show this subreddit's theme" and it'd reappear.

Or click on the comment and press Z

The downvotes that irritate me are not the ones which seem to express disagreement with my opinion, but objections to the tone of my comment.

The ones that annoy me are the ones where people simply press the downvote button because others have. Getting a slightly negative score once in a while is fine. But to get -10 and so on for a perfectly reasonable comment is ridiculous. People appear to me to do it to shut that person up. To make them fear making comments.

I don't know if the "fear" is a part.

When it has occurred to me, I simply stopped because my opinion clearly wasn't considered worthy, or they disagreed with it, or me, too much. I'm not someone looking for acceptance, or behaving like a Karma whore, but if I seriously think what I am saying is falling on deaf ears, why say it?

[–]teenyweenytempah-a bit, -a bit more [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

The worst are when someone disagrees with your point of view, but downvote all of your comments in the thread, even the reasonable ones.

[–]hey-upResponsible Dog Owner [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Or when someone posts a link to facts that might help the discussion and that gets downvoted. Grrrrr!

[–]AraygLibertarian Socialist [

I think it's a redundant feature in this subreddit where the opposite political side appear to downvote you, which can hide very valid points in the thread. The admins on this sub do a brilliant job removing irrelevent and offensive material, making the downvote feature pointless.

Agreed. On a subreddit with such a broad range of views, it's unfortunately an inevitability that some people on both sides fail to tolerate other viewpoints. We removed it on /r/MHoC and things got a lot more tolerant afterwards.

Am I the only one who has no upvote or downvote buttons when I visit /r/ukpolitics ?

I can see that links and posts here get upvoted and downvoted (I can see the scores) BUT I HAVE NO UPVOTE OR DOWNVOTE BUTTONS...

Here's a screenshot: http://imgur.com/WlRFAtL

Every other subreddit I visit has them, why not this one (for me)????!!!

[–]Projectmayhem666UKIP Defence Force[S] [

You need to subscribe, then they will appear.

[–]OrcnickThe Centre -0.12, -0.87 [

I agree with you. It just seems to be people down vote because your comment is the opposite, especially now that your going to have direct conflicts when it comes to things like ProEU vs AntiEU.

This will soon happen reddit wide sadly. It use to be that you could see exactly how many upvotes and downvotes a comment or post has, which is a much better way of using them since a post with 1 vote overall could be a very polarizing position with -100 +101.

[–]Projectmayhem666UKIP Defence Force[S] [

I prefer that, it's a lot better in my opinion.

[–]Duke0fWellingtonBritish De Gaullism | Centre (slowly leaning further right) [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Eh, I do most of my voting using keyboard keys. I'm sure others are the same. I wouldn't mind the feature though.

[–]yetieaterwe're through the looking glass.

It's nice to see stormfronters downvoted into oblivion, but is suppose I could live without it. I kinda like having the odd post go into big minuses when it really hits a nerve, having it sit at 1 wouldn't be as fun.

Ah, it probably would make things more civilised, i guess i support it.
