I'm jealous. Their tweets are getting their work more recognition than mine ever will.

Join twitter and post a fun picture :)

Haha, I'm not female so I doubt it gets the same level of attention as something pertinent to what is all over the media.

You could totally get in on this! Remember, he also said that ladies in the lab will fall in love with you. So maybe something like, "According to Tim Wise, if we let 'girls' in my lab, we'll be too busy falling in love with each other to do any science! I guess scientists are just too #DistractinglySexy."

But, I'm a roboticist... and I just want my robots to feel

Notice how the majority of the women are involved with some sort of Bio related research. (not all though)

i believe in taking comments in the most benevolent light possible until it's been shown beyond a reasonable doubt that there is malicious intent
clearly, those twitter users feel differently

Referring to women, he said, "Three things happen when they are in the lab: you fall in love with them, they fall in love with you, and when you criticize them, they cry." He later went on to say that, while he doesn't want to get in the way of women, he's "in favor of single-sex labs."
Malicious intent or not, that's a demeaning and embarrassingly stupid position that should be roundly mocked.

Absolutely.
I can't imagine what would happen if I said that I thought all the men in my lab should work in a separate room because they were too distracting, that they were always falling love with us and basically preventing us from getting the "real science" done
I assume (probably quite accurately) that I would be laughed out of the building.
[–]jewdai 2ポイント3ポイント4ポイント 29分 前 (0子コメント)
actually, he advocated for single sex labs.

see, you're taking it as his official stance on women in the lab so that it's some kind of policy or something whereas i think he's just sharing his personal experience which is of course anecdotal, in which case then how could anyone have grounds to mock it? what do you want to mock here, him for sharing the experience or the experience itself or what?

Seriously? That fact that he could make these comments while presenting at a professional conference and see them as a funny aside speaks volumes about how he sees women.
Read his blundering attempt at kind of apologizing:
"It's terribly important that you can criticise people's ideas without criticising them and if they burst into tears, it means that you tend to hold back from getting at the absolute truth. Science is about nothing but getting at the truth and anything that gets in the way of that diminishes, in my experience, the science."
He legitimately thinks that you can't have serious scientific inquiry with women because they get too emotional to have their ideas challenged and deal with "the truth." This guy didn't get on stage and tell an off-color story; he shared his philosophy on women in the lab that I'm sure does inform his policy.

Dr Jennifer Rohn, a cell biologist at University College London, >added: "I think it was clear he was trying to be funny. But people >will interpret his comments as having a kernel of truth underneath. >And as a Nobel laureate, I know he's a human being, but he does >have some sort of responsibility as a role model and as an >ambassador for the profession."
from the same article that you probably didn't bother to read all the way but only scanned for fodder for your bashing
i guess i'm not the only one who thinks he wasn't being malicious huh

i'm sorry, but i don't read that as an apology at all so i don't know where you're getting that idea
that aside, are you willing to admit the possibility that you take things too seriously and make too many assumptions?
[–]jaytummy 1ポイント2ポイント3ポイント 1時間 前 (3子コメント)
He's saying incredibly demeaning things about women in science and expressing a view that many female scientists have to combat against at least once during their career. Maybe you're not taking the issue seriously enough.

"incredibly demeaning"? lol... no comment

Can you provide any non-anecdotal evidence for these claims?

I'm sure you're capable of searching this subreddit or Google for the literal thousands of articles and scientific papers analyzing this subject that are routinely posted.
