/r/askHaes should be next by this logic. They're failure to keep people safe with proper medical advice could lead to serious injury.

Or you know any of these

/u/kn0thing, comment?

Yeah, good luck with that.

Admins are just going to ignore all of you until this blows over and people forget.

Then they'll do it again.

Repeat process as often as people forget.

Which probably will be.... later tomorrow afternoon.

Hey, you forgot /r/sexwithdogs. Bestiality is illegal in almost every state. So you can have pictures of people committing felonies, but not pictures of fat people.

But the animals can't report harassment to the mods, so apparently that's why it's fine...

The whales and pigs seemed to be able to report FPH

Comments like this make me miss FPH

That's the best part about FPH. it won't die...because now there is no place to vent fat people hate so it will begin to spread into every. Single. Subreddit.

37 states isn't "almost every", and the porn is legal in all of them. Are you going to ask for /r/fisting to be banned next because it's illegal in the UK?

Wait! Bestiality is legal in 13 states?

It's specifically illegal in 37 states. Typically they're still prosecuted under animal abuse statutes. However, it's not perfect. Here in Jersey, a cop actually got away with the argument "the state hasn't met their burden in proving the cow hated it."

They have animal brothels in Oregon or Washington, I forget. It was front page recently

Setting aside the legality of bestiality, are you seriously saying you think bestiality is better than hating on a group of people? One of them is direct animal abuse, the other is a bunch of people talking at each other about how much they don't like something.

I'm seeing the gutter of Reddit that I had no idea really existed due to the ban today...

Noone ever mentioned space dicks. Is it not a thing any more? I am honestly afraid to look.

And no I am not linking that fresh hell

They don't do anything wrong there. They're fucked up, put they keep to themselves.

I'm not gonna lie, I've browsed there. I'd rather browse there than r/deadchildren

Nothing actually bannable or wrong there.

Personally, I really do not care how the Reddit admins want to run Reddit, it's their site and they and make their choices. If they want to do censorship and make Reddit 'Safer', so be it.

It's the approach to this I have an issue with.

You cannot put an up an announcement with the rule changes, talking about harassment and safety, and only ban 5 measly subreddits.

Let's be real, there are tons of subreddits some of which are more popular than FPH and much more abusive (in terms of harassment) than FPH that are around.

This was so poorly executed the admins made the backlash 100x worse than it could have been. And they basically asked for a ton of personal attacks on them by having the first and only major one be FPH, TiA would have been another one that would have caused a major backlash.

I honestly think they only banned the other four subs as a cushion for banning FPH. That's the only explanation that makes any sense to me.

Actually I am pretty sure a couple of the other subreddits made news for some pretty bad harassment.

but /r/neofag was banned too, and they were just making fun of the gaming forum NeoGAF.

i think the reasoning for that one was because of linking back to the neogaf forums, which is technically brigading. they must have gotten enough complaints from over there for it to have happened.

You can't anonymously brigade neogaf.

There's also the whole fact that becoming a user on NeoGAF requires a non-free E-Mail address (no Gmail/Hotmail) and it will take weeks before you're allowed to post on the forums

i think the reasoning for that one was because of linking back to the neogaf forums, which is technically brigading.

Yea like there aren't any other subs known to do that.

/r/ShitRedditSays

Huh. I'd never heard of them before today, but I'll consider this new piece of information.

There was going to be backlash no matter how it was handled. Let's be honest, this is Reddit. If there's one thing we know how to do it's cry censorship and accuse someone else of being the real problem.

Oh I'm not denying that.

I just think the way this was handled made it even worse than it had to be.

But it also did not have to be anything. It hurt nobody. What's next banning political subreddits that are opposed to admins beliefs? Shadow banning people who post in religious subreddits?

Not to mention shit reddit says is still around and harassing...

I don't know about FPH, but I know TIA tries it's best to minimize personal attacks/bullying. Its Rule #1, they also disallow linking to other subreddits and make sure posts remove personal information. They do pretty much everything possible within the power of a mod. If TIA had been the one banned, I would have lost all hope for Reddit being a site worth using.

FPH was just as strict. I've never, ever seen any personally identifying information posted there, and I'd been subscribed for a few months.

The only few times I've seen links to other parts of reddit, it was accidental and the comment was either immediately edited or deleted.

I encountered a comment somewhere that indicated that the bullying was on the Imgur side. I was aware that Imgur was drawing a lot of heat due to removing pictures on the main page, so I could believe that there was some bullying there. That said, I don't think the mods can do much about what happens on other sites.

Ah okay. I don't typically read imgur comments, so I wasn't aware of that. I think doxxing is a shitty thing to do, and if that was actually common place, I could get behind this, but from what I've seen, FPH was pretty self contained. And like you said, if there was a problem on imgur's side, I can understand imgur not wanting FPH content, but there's still no reason for reddit to do anything.

FPH had the same rules. No identifying information unless it was a news story or something. No linking to other parts of reddit either. All submissions had to be approved by a mood before they would be posted

Automod deleted submissions with links to other subs. They say FPH brigaded, but with the way automod was set up it was impossible.

You are falling into their trap. This is exactly the argument that they want you to make. Then we'll be very nearly asking them to ban those as well. You are being gamed.

I don't really care which way they go with it. I just don't like their execution it.

The fact that r/fatpeoplehate is banned and r/cutefemalecorpses and r/gasthekikes and r/coontown and r/sexyabortions and more is not is bullshit, plain and simple.

Once those subs are popular enough to get upvoted to /r/all, Reddit will consider them "harassing" or "against Reddit's rules" and ban them too. They just want to make sure anything on /r/all or the front page is advertiser-friendly. FPH is just the first to go.

It would be better if they forced the mods to make the threads not show up on /r/all. Then again people would be pissed at that too.

This. Do you think it was a coincidence that jailbait was banned after Anderson Cooper started talking about it? It was popular long before that.

/r/fatpeoplehate2 has also just been banned.

As well as FPH3 and publichealthawareness. The last one left is /r/obesepeopledislike.

EDIT: the admins are pretty ban happy today. I'd say we should all just move to voat, but the sudden increase in traffic really slowed it down. There's still http://8ch.net/fatpeoplehate/, but it's being spammed by butthurt 8channers complaining about "muh secret club".

This is not the correct line of logic. just because those were not banned has nothing to do with unbanning FPH

I think the point is the admins clearly had a biased agenda. I don't necessarily think their intentions were bad but their execution was poor. They say they wish to enforce this rule but didn't widely enforce it.

It comes off as censorship because of that and the rule is just a poor excuse for why they went after FPH. They clearly targeted FPH as a subreddit they didn't like and tried to find a rule it broke instead of finding what subreddits, of every single one, broke the rule.

I don't care what Reddit does with their site. It just seems like this was a rushed plan and now they get to enjoy the backlash.

Serious question though, is there any real backlash from this other than people saying crap about them for a few days? The admins don't lose at all here. Or am I missing something?

None of those subs have harassed Reddit and Imgur admins. If /r/fatpeoplehate is unbanned, someone is going to take things too far with the admins. Really sucks because now I can't visit /r/fatlogic either.

It seems FL is only hiding temporarily until the shitstorm dies down. They don't want to immediately attract everyone from FPH there, as that would likely paint a target on their backs.

Yeah, I totally agree with their choice. That said, we're gonna have a battle at /r/fatlogic to keep the hate away

Probably be easier than battling a healthy diet.

[–]shameless_masshole 6ポイント7ポイント  (1子コメント)

Let the hate flow through you.

Freely. Since my arteries aren't clogged.

"I can't actively spread garbage and hate. My life is the sux."

Seriously! And those subs have been around for ages. The most bullshit part of this is we were never allowed to post screen names or any personal info. We didn't even say first names.

Let's keep things in perspective, though. I've never heard of all these other subreddits until the FPH ban happened. I've seen FPH posts on /r/all constantly. The scale is miles apart.

That doesn't seem like a compelling reason to lift the ban on FPH, its more a reason to ban all those other boards, which I fully agree with.

Uh huh. The mods admins banned a very sparse and unthorough list of 5. All those subreddits people are mentioning? The admins are probably taking those as suggestions.

Admins. Not mods. Mods did not ban any subreddits. Admins did.

Yeah, I know the difference. Slipped up. I actually used the word mod and admin in the same post to describe the same people.

That's what I'm guessing. They clearly said they will be taking a look at banning any subreddit that gets enough complaints so instead of whining about FPH being banned maybe start reporting all the rest of the 'bad' subs.

Reddit is so great exactly because of the free speech/self moderation rules in place. When did banning subreddits that you don't like start becoming acceptable?

I hate /r/CoonTown just as much as you do, but that's no reason to ban it. They're not doing anything illegal nor actively harassing other redditors (as far as I know at least). In such cases, ban the users not the entire community, unless they condone it.

All this safe from harassment/safe place/etc is total bullshit. Enough with the fucking censorship. Reddit is, after all, a public forum not a website filled with material the admins agree with.

When did banning subreddits that you don't like start becoming acceptable?

Probably around the time /r/jailbait was banned.

Never been to that one, but from the name, I assume it's about, well, jailbait. Toeing the line between creepily young porn and CP. So, illegal.

It's happening mostly because it's promoting a toxic atmosphere. It's indirect harassment. It's like walking into a room with someone overweight it and constantly going on about how much you hate fat people.

People need to just be chill. At some point you guys need to stop being the 12 year old on COD just yelling faggot and fatass to everyone. This site can be something dope, it can be a place people can come to, talk about interesting things like adults, and get something from each other. Why does everyone want to fight so hard to make a place where you can go to just make fun of other people. This whole place should be a lot more like /r/askscience and a lot less, well, /r/fatpeoplehate.

so.. do you want them to unban fph or ban the others ?

[–]ares_god_not_sign 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

Either. I just want a consistent enforcement of clear, written rules for what is and isn't allowed on reddit.

They don't ban subreddits unless it leaks out of reddit and starts giving them bad rep...just look at how FPH caught on outside of reddit. They don't give a shit unless it effects them directly.

The admins can't lift the ban.

They can't lift

I just want an explanation as to how r/fatpeoplehate is jeopardizing people's health and safety.

HAES is killing people every fucking day.

Fat feminism kills more women than domestic violence every year

HAES literally never comes up in my day to day life. I hear about it on reddit and reddit alone.

TBH I could say the same thing about domestic violence.

HAES literally never comes up in my day to day life.

well, are you morbidly obese? If you're not then why would it be relevant to you?

It's doing the opposite. Got my fat ass off the couch and got me to take a look at a BMI calculator. Everyone in the US is so fucking fat and obese, I didn't realize what fat actually was and realized I gotta up my workouts and change my eating habits.

Rock it buddy! You get healthy. I helped my buddy lose the weight for that very reason

Oh, fuck off. That's the flimsiest excuse I've heard in years.

FPH is awful and all. But for fucks sake. Just give them their subreddit back. If we can keep it all in there, it makes reddit somewhat palatable for the rest of us. It's like r/coontown. Better to let them have a place to say their stupid crap than have them in every other subreddit being awful.

Is it impossible for announcements to have negative karma? The "no showing votes" post and this one are both 0 with probably a million downvotes.

Wanna watch people die? No problem. Wanna be a member of a neo-nazi organization that wants the death of black people? That's cool on reddit. How about part of the americans that talk about killing muslims because they are muslim? They can exist freely on this website. But boy, if you point how being fat isn't a good thing, you're worse than hitler.

    Is this reddit digg moment?

This is bullshit. I'm overweight. Looking at FPH every day has so far inspired me to lose 12 pounds, and I'm a fat lazy slob.

If I can do it, anyone can do it.

Me too! I was 135-140lbs browsing that sub, and now I'm down to 125! My boyfriend was at 200, and now down to 170! Yeah, /r/loseit, and /r/fitness is great, but it wasn't the motivation that we needed, oddly. Sometimes it takes a lot of people to yell in your face that you need to get your shit together for progress to be made.

FPH is shit. So are a ton of other places on this site. I don't like it, I don't visit it, but it shouldn't be banned. If there is an epidemic of personal info posted or crimes committed, fine. Otherwise, I have no problem with it existing.

I'm sad that I had to search so far on Reddit to find this opinion. I too don't like FPH and I think their idea of shame the fat away is about as useful as beating discipline into kids with a belt, but I think it was a bad decision to ban them. As far as I know, they weren't doing anything illegal or actually hurting anyone or ruining any individual's private lives, they were just being anonymous dicks on the internet, so what?

Dropped from 210 to 175 pounds in two months. I'd be lying if I said seeing FPH had nothing to do with it.

You would've been banned from FPH, or ridiculed for even trying to lose weight as a fatty.

While I'm not disputing your personal anecdote, it should be noted that your're very much in the minority:

Weight discrimination is prevalent in American society. Although associated consistently with psychological and economic outcomes, less is known about whether weight discrimination is associated with longitudinal changes in obesity. The objectives of this research are (1) to test whether weight discrimination is associated with risk of becoming obese (Body Mass Index≥30; BMI) by follow-up among those not obese at baseline, and (2) to test whether weight discrimination is associated with risk of remaining obese at follow-up among those already obese at baseline. Participants were drawn from the Health and Retirement Study, a nationally representative longitudinal survey of community-dwelling US residents. A total of 6,157 participants (58.6% female) completed the discrimination measure and had weight and height available from the 2006 and 2010 assessments. Participants who experienced weight discrimination were approximately 2.5 times more likely to become obese by follow-up (OR = 2.54, 95% CI = 1.58–4.08) and participants who were obese at baseline were three times more likely to remain obese at follow up (OR = 3.20, 95% CI = 2.06–4.97) than those who had not experienced such discrimination. These effects held when controlling for demographic factors (age, sex, ethnicity, education) and when baseline BMI was included as a covariate. These effects were also specific to weight discrimination; other forms of discrimination (e.g., sex, race) were unrelated to risk of obesity at follow-up. The present research demonstrates that, in addition to poorer mental health outcomes, weight discrimination has implications for obesity. Rather than motivating individuals to lose weight, weight discrimination increases risk for obesity.

"We're banning behavior not ideas" - I dunno about that, you just banned subreddits who have the idea that unhealthy lifestyles shouldn't be glamorised.

Obviously some fat shaming was involved and that's MUCH worse than racism, necrophila and anti-Semitism. Should give the FPH mods the death penalty for not indulging people who can't stop shoving food in their mouths but the listed above is protected under free-speech for sure.

The button is gone. This will keep us occupied for a while.

They turned off thebutton. Then we had /r/planetside and now this.

They need to restart thebutton by Friday or we could be at risk of /r/politics and /r/atheism becoming default subs again.

I'm totally floored that r/fatpeoplehate was banned

Absolutely floored. Distasteful yes, but not illegal. Not harassing either. Much more so the target of harassment by other redditors literally threatening FPH posters with IRL consequences.

    This is ridiculous. Unban it.

I think the imgur thing may have been a bit overboard (the sidebar part with the admins) but I see no reason for /r/fatpeoplehate to have been banned, and some other shit (as mentioned tons of times /r/CuteFemaleCorpses) to stay.

I have no problem with fat people. I just hate the ones that try to get the message across that you can be obese and healthy. Why is it okay for them to do that but not okay for me to laugh at them and call them a cunt for doing so?

They are encouraging people to slowly kill themselves and that people should be happy with living with diabetes. If my ugly ass was on the front page of vogue magazine telling everyone that it's okay to be an alcoholic and that you should be proud of it as it is incredibly healthy to be one; you would be pretty angry about that wouldn't you?

How about if I went around telling kids to start smoking because it doesn't matter what other people think, it's healthy, infact science shows that it's better for you. Would that be okay? No. It would make me a cunt. Just like the Hamplanets who were ridiculed in r/FatPeopleHate. They deserve the hatred. They are killing themselves and encouraging everyone else to do it too.

Fucking get a grip you blind cunts.

Thank you! These people bitching because they are too fucking lazy to install a filtering app are pissing me off. Just filter it out. They cannot do that, however, because they can't bring their pudgy fucking fingers to the keyboard to commit even a little bit of exercise.

    Sad.

Please lift the ban so the frontpage isnt full of circle jerkers anymore.

/r/all is looking pretty annoying lately:

    http://i.imgur.com/pwe06iA.png

I've never had to scroll down 2 entire pages just to see something that wasn't /r/circlejerk before. This is a new level of attention whoring.

Sadly it won't happen. Another user pointed out its all about advertising. Coca Cola doesn't want their ad next to r/ihatejews. It's bad for the media. Reddit wants money so they have to "sanitize"

How about stop banning anything that is not illegal.

How about NO MORE censorship on reddit.

It is a USER community, so let the USERS use the voting system.

Holy fuck just to get them to shut up please. The front page is full of it, and while I don't mind some of their stuff in moderation, this is just insane and annoying.

If people get triggered by making fun of fatties they can just not go to /r/fatpeoplehate. Why cater to the sort of people who lack the self control to not go to places that will upset them? Is it because the people who lack self control are also fat, so they get double triggered?

Someone pm me the dozens of new fat hate subreddits that this misguided decision has created and I'll subscribe to all of them.

they can just not go to

If they had the ability to 'just not' anything they wouldn't be fat

Except for the fact that /r/fatpeoplehate plagued /r/all like a fucking disease.

    Yes, popular sub was popular.

Yeah I don't understand this argument at all...

"It was on /r/all all the time!!"

"So you're telling me that a large enough portion of users liked the content enough to make it a front-page post? And that's why it should be banned?"

Do people not understand how this works?

So filter it out. This can be done on desktop and mobile. Literally no excuse. You think I want to see naked women on r/all? Or gore? Or even /r/funny?

I totally agree with you, and think that sub is a waste of time and energy for everyone involved in it. but instead of expecting it to be banned I just filtered it (and ~40 other sub's I'm not interested it). I don't know how you browse reddit but RES on desktop and reddit sync on mobile both let you filter specific subreddits.

It's almost like the sub was popular or something. If you don't like it, filter it. Or don't go to /r/all (since apparently seeing points of view different than your own is the end of the world to you). Go find the subs you like, subscribe to them, and just browse your own front page. There problem solved and your precious little fee fee bubble remains intact.

If I had to pick letting them stay and seeing one or two fat people hate posts in /r/all and seeing the entire front page of /r/all filled with fat people hate posts, I choose the former. It's so bad I had to install RES just to filter it all out.

seriously this is the stupidest fucking thing I have ever seen.

I'm just here to get gold for saying something edgy

I want an explanation to what happened to this philosophy.

The explanation is so simple it can be expressed with this symbol: $

I'm actually pretty certain it's because posts on FPH frequently made it to the front page while from all these other subreddits people are posting asking "WHY ARENT THESE BANNED? THEYRE WORSE THAN FPH WAS!" never, I repeat, never make it to the front page.

I still think all hate-subreddits should be banned but that's a personal opinion.

I am not a member of r/fathpeoplehate, but FUCK reddit if they are going to start banning unpopular opinion. This isn't r/jailbait which is morally fucked up, this is fat people not being able to take a joke....grow the fuck up people....until than i am going to google reddit alternatives.

there is a difference between light hearted jokes and hatred.

fatpeoplehate has been banning unpopular opinions for a while. Why are you only speaking up about this now?

That is in a specific reddit though. You get banned in /r/cats for posting dogs. Censorship of reddit as a whole is different they are trying to ban an idea from reddit.

Haha so many fee fees hurt.

I would agree with the un-banning, at first. But just peeked at /r/all, and between the surge of "hurr durr mods are fat" threads and the nauseating self-righteousness in KiA, I say let them burn.

    Objection: the drama is hilarious.
